i played around with it a lil and if i got them in break it down i didnt need to get them in the recap and you dont need to get the diamond either if you fail the first time it still counts if you get the checks to pass it.

As a guitar hero / rock band fan I just did the 'From the Makers of Rock Band' achievement very simply:

Guitar: Hella Good [E][H]
Rockout: Hella Good [E][H]
Sing Out: Flava In Ya Ear (Remix) [H]
Snare: Poison [H]

I did Flava in Ya Ear in break down mode and waited for the move to show up, passed it and waited again. Did the same with Poison. I used a chair to sit on for the Kinect to think someone is playing. Of course I now realise that in some cases some more moves can be done in one break it down session.
As mentioned before, also use the slow down mode to reset the 3 tries-counter. I had a lot of difficulty doing the snare move.

The Trick is NOT everlasting. After awhile the game will not let you slow it down anymore and will progress you through no matter what. I failed like 5 times at a song, constantly using the slow it down method and then when I tried to get the slow it down thing to show up, it absolutely refused. There is a limit to how many times you can do that...

I guess my question would be as to whether or not you need to pass the moves in the recap as well, or if just passing the moves individually will suffice.

Individually is fine.

And the_b1ues, you won't get the achievement until you get the completion screen (possibly because that's when the game saves).
