Breeding
So I'm looking forward to this game, and I have some questions. Anyone know how long the campaign will be? In a video I watched they were talking about the base and all the things you can do, but how you won't be able to max everything in a play-through. This leads me to believe you'll need at least 2 play-throughs to get the obligatory max these skills or build these max level items achievements. Also they said it is possible to lose the game if the supporting countries all cut funding. I wonder if this will lead to a 5 point throw away achievement for losing? Qonok
I don't know anything of new XCOM really but I have played the old ones back in 1994 (XCOM: UFO Defense). The game has a lot to do with investigating UFO sights, training recruits, researching technology, and building your base. I played UFO Defense 40 or 50 hours if not more per game. I don't know how much they will be changing with the new game, though. Hope they kept in training and promoting your troops at least. Loved the original game and I can't wait to get my hands on Enemy Unknown.
AgentOrange330
If its anything like the original, which it seems it is, I assume you won't ever be able to completely max everything out. They won't carry over from one game to the next. For example in the first one you could hire all kinds of scientists and you could research different types of weapons. The thing was it was more advantageous to research what you really needed instead of trying to research everything. Once you got plasma weaponry it wasn't really necessary to research laser weapons. I'm guessing in this one you can physically train soldiers or train them in psi powers but you probably can't max them out in both. In the original if you ignored certain countries or regions you'd lose their financial support. So, if you had your base in North America and India keeps getting invaded and you ignored them then after awhile India will cease giving you funding. Lose too many countries and alot of funding and the game gets to be very difficult. That was part of the fun with the original. There was so much depth to it and so much that you had to pay attention to. Funding, research, alien invasions, base building, etc. I can't wait to get my hands on the new one... Breeding
I wonder if there will be a strategy guide at the time of release for this? I re-watched the base video and where they were speaking of bonuses for building rooms next to each other or in series. Makes me think there will be some strategy in that for those who try to min/max for different builds.
AgentOrange330
The one thing I haven't heard to be confirmed yet is whether or not you can build mutliple bases in the new one. In the original you could build up to 8 bases I believe. I wonder if in the new one they scaled it back to only needing one base...
Breeding
I haven't heard definitely one way or another but but they did call the ant hill centralized and that would lead me to believe 1 base.
Zombiechild
Head up to the base building. You will only have 1 main base called the Ant hill BUT, this is going from the Dev Vids ive watched, you will be able to install radar bases and upgrade the radar cover across the globe so you can spot more attacks how these radar stations will work i still cant find out but im thinking youll only get the Ant Hill to actually do stuff with. though i will miss having my bases invaded use to plan my bases out to give me ample defense against that xD
AgentOrange330
I wonder then how effective the interceptors will be. If I build my base in North America and a UFO is spotted in China thats quiet the long haul to catch up to it. Although, I thought at one time I had read that you will be able to build some sort of satellite defenses that could potentially shoot down UFOs anywhere they appear. Then it'd just be a matter of getting to the crash site...
Breeding
I wonder if they have plans for DLC? Neither here nor there, I'm getting antsy for this. Was thinking about picking up the original on Steam or the alpha for Xenonauts, but I don't want to be sick of the genre come October.

Making aliens eat their own grenades. Sounds good to me. While I enjoy all these preview articles all it does it makes me want to play it even more... I am SOOOO looking forward to this game re-boot! Firaxis seems to be on the right path to keeping intact what made the original so immensely enjoyable. RougeRogue
this game is gonna be awsome, however.. i still would have loved a port of the original on xbla.. Well, if you're feeling sentimental about the original, you can STILL play it, even on your more modern PC, using the DOSBox emulator -- all downloads and instructions can be found, here: http://www.freewebs.com/xcombat/dosbox.htm More info/tweaks available for DOSBox version: http://www.xcomufo.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2989 Frankly, it looks to me like Firaxis has kept a LOT of the original game's elements in-tact for this upcoming version -- I'm quite excited for it. netstryker
I played a lot this game on the PC many years ago. On the PC, this game was too long, at least around 1000 hours or more on higher difficulties. This game was released by Atari for PC on US with title "X-COM: UFO Defense" in 1993. After this, a publisher called MicroProse released this game on Europe in 1994 with title "UFO: Enemy Unknown". This new game will be released with the title XCOM: Enemy Unknown, a mix of US and Europe titles. I love this game and I am very happy to know that it will be released for Xbox later this year. I hope this new version is as good as the original.
bryson 06
I hope this has a good tutorial or newb friendly lower difficulties. I have never played an Xcom game or any game similar, but this just looks so good i have to try it out. I look forward to spending a lot of time with it to get my skill up. bryson 06
I really wish they would bring the original to XBLA or included as DLC, I kno its on pc but i would like it on xbox. they would just have to fix controls. here is an hour of new gameplay [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VfXZZxSth0]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VfXZZxSth0[/ame] Has any new info come out about how long the campaign will be? Im really hoping for something very long like the old games.

Actually the original was ported to the PS1 so making the switch wouldn't be all that difficult as it was already set up to be used with a controller. I already have the original downloaded through Steam but I would definitely pick it up if it came to XBLA...
EngagedMetal7
@ Agent Orange I believe that you can take your upgrades through in a semi new game + mode, (i think it's called iron mode or sumtin), i don't think you can revert @in it though (it saves after every move)
