Exhausted Dad
From what I have seen thus far I think this game deserves its own discussion. The combat was a little different than what I expected and what I'm used too. But new doesn't mean bad so i'm doing my best to get used to it.
The best thing for me so far has been the story and character interaction. Some parts of the story may be cliche as some people have said, but there has been a lot that has caught me off guard too. I will say from what I have seen so far I think I will be looking forward to future games in the series just as much as Fallout or Elder Scrolls.
So lets hear your impressions because we are the RPG group and we all love our RPG's so I find your opinions more valuable than other people on the site.

Hey Exhausted, long time no post! Anyway, I haven't played this yet but was just reading the reviews on it on RPGfans website. It seems like it is a lot like Oblivion, with a bit of LoTR thrown in (orcs, elves, etc). Do you ever get to play as a dragon? That would rock. I'm thinking of picking it up.

No you don't ever get to play as a dragon, but the game is amazing. Its rather difficult, for me anyhow, but it is a lot of fun to play. The human and elf origins were my favorite to start out with. But they are all really good.

I really enjoyed this game, until I came upon an annoying glitch.
It has some really nice touches, love being able to disarm traps and even set traps, and make poisons & potions.

Got this at the beginning of the month and still playing it. I soon found out (as is typical for me) that 10 character slots is the max, so I had to delete some... lol. I used to think that games were mostly telling the story in the "in camp" interactions, but I find that I have as many save games during camp conversations as I do in wading through a tower or castle. So many pitfalls and so much interaction between characters. I still love crossing bridges with the party just to hear the other characters talk.
Some of the battles can be difficult depending on your party configuration and level (Flemeth comes to mind early on), and some of the achievements have been interesting to achieve. Like siding with the Templars... nothing like the little fight that takes place after the Templar and actually performing a fatality (did the whole spinning sword cut and took off her head)! OMG! That made me feel even dirtier...

Currently I'm in a quandry because I was trying to get Leliana to open up to me and then accidentaly hit the sweet spot with Morrigan and now I'm not sure if Leliana is mad at me because I was in a relationship. In Denerim she and Alistar were talking about it, so I figure it is not good. I'm debating reloading my first camp save after Redwall to go back through my choices. You just don't get that in other games. I already have most of the DLC and will probably get Awakening soon.
So far the game seems slanted heavily toward being a warrior. I've gotten a pretty good ways with my Ranger as well, but you reload way more often. Perhaps I'm not shifting to other characters often enough, but I think the tactics has a good feel overall and mostly they do what I want them to do. Tweaking the healer is an art form in itself, but is well worth it when you finally can get her to focus mostly on what you want (need her maxed out in tactics).

Just bought the game yesterday. Play a bit of it, and it looks killer! Might have another save with an 'evil' mage next. I'm all good and stuff on my first play through......Damn morals lol.

So, I got the game, started it...
left for awhile, and came back. Now I love it and its an addiction. I got almost all the acheivements - the gliched one for 1000 darkspawn kills I can't seem to unglitch. Oh well, I have Awakenings left - maybe it will pop then.
DA2 will be cool! March 8th!
