At the anchor of this years Summer of Arcade is Shadow Complex. The games previously released in the Summer of Arcade were very well received, but the biggest and baddest of them all is almost upon us.

Shadow Complex, which is a 2d platforming game, is said to be a hybrid of Contra and Metroid. It is based on the world presented in Orson Scott Card's novel Empires, and was developed by Chair (makers of Undertow) using EPIC'S Unreal Engine 3.

I have read numerous articles about this game and have yet to find anything that does not believe this game will be stellar. Will it live up to the hype?

I'm not sure. It looks good, but that doesn't always mean it IS good. I just hope it's not all hype and nothing else. I'll definitely try the trial first, although having said that I very rarely blind-buy anyway.

I'm also wondering how big the file-size will be as I'm assuming it's going to be a big one!

I agree with Waggly Bean that just because a game looks good, it does not mean it is good. I have been burned by games like this in the past. That being said, I apparently did not learn my lesson and bought Shadow Complex (I didn't download the trial) based on it's looks and what I have read of the gameplay.

There is no disappointment this time around. What I have played of Shadow Complex is simply amazing. Within a 1/2 hour I was immersed in the game. From the "I can't believe this is a arcade game" graphics to the exploration of new areas, this game is all that it was advertised.

Like Braid did last year, I expect numerous game of the year nominations for Shadow Complex this year. If you have not bought it yet do yourself a favor and buy it. (don't even download the trial first. lol) For those of you who did buy it, I am curious if you share my enthusiasm for this game.
