A bit late but here it is....


Legendary Pictures Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni has optioned the Movie rights for Mass Effect and will produce along side Avi Arad (Iron Man, Spiderman) and his son Ari Arad.

Furthermore, the producers are in negotiations with screenwriter Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) about penning the script. The Mass Effect movie is in the nascent stages of development.

Man, that's great news. If they mess it up I'll kill their faces. And they HAVE to use the same actor for Miranda! (if they even have that character in the film).

YES! Awesome, awesome, awesome!

You know, when I first played Mass Effect in 2007, I thought it would make a great movie. But now, keeping in mind Hollywood's track record of converting video games or comic books or 80s tv shows into movies, or making movies that were once good bad with a remake, etc... I just don't see the point. I personally don't see any good coming of this, and will boycott the movie if it ever sees the light of day.

I want to keep my Mass Effect right where it is and where it belongs.

I agree with Midersaw movies make games look bad eg. Hitman ( love the game but the movie was terrible and didn't have anything in common with the game, well except the suit and the bold guy), all the live action Resident evils, Dragonball (that was pathetic), DoA, BloodRayne, Max Payne, Street Fighter and so on... now they are working on Uncharted movie and from what they said the whole backstory was changed.
Well back to the subject I hope that they will at least consult Mass Effect creators while producing it.

Yeah, and to further drive the point home... In a 2 hour Mass Effect movie, how much time will the producers devote to explaining biotics? Or explaining to the audience the Genophage and the reasons behind it? Or the First Contact War?

My belief is that major concepts that make Mass Effect so enjoyable to us gamers will get cut out of a movie, and the main focus of the movie will be the Shepard/Liara/Ashley love triangle and things that blow up. Asari, salarian, turian, krogan, quarian, geth, biotics, etc., if included at all, will be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator until it isn't even Mass Effect anymore, it's just another pointless space shooter.

You gotta remember, Hollywood makes movies to make money. So they are gonna make a Mass Effect movie to appeal to the widest possible audience, which isn't us. Condensing a 40+ hour video game into a 2 hour max movie isn't going to make anybody happy. Just look at Aeon Flux, GI Joe, Prince of Persia...

I really wanted Christopher Nolan on this, the man is an absolute genius and I'm very happy that Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck are going to be present, I know for a fact that they won't let this film be rubbish, I mean seriously, look at the games they've made.

It's going to be very interesting who they cast as Shepard, and if it will be a man or woman. I don't know what timeline they're basing this in, whether it'll just be the first game they base it off, second or third or even draft up a different plot entirely. Ideally, I'd want Yvonne Strahovski to reprise her role as Miranda Lawson, that's if she isn't tied down with the filming of Chuck and the film is based loosely around ME2.

Hope this true. But then again I am always a little iffy when it comes to movies based from games and obviously vice versa. I think they should use Mark VanderLoo to play Shepard... that would be awesome since he is the face of him after all. But that begs the question what would happen to Fem Shep?

I'd like to see a movie in the mass effect universe but not on the same events as the game, maybe one of the books or the first contact war. Hopefully bioware stay involved as well and have a lot of input.

I would have to agree with not wanting them to step on the toes of the games. That's such a good story as is I don't think they need to make a movie out of it.
