I don't know how many of you subscribe to the official XBox magazine, but there is an interesting article on page 86 entitled: "Make Your Own 360 Games? YES!"

The article goes into great detail about how Microsoft is planning software for a subscribable Creator's Club. Here's a little something to better explain this.

XNA Game Studio Express is the IDE for homebrew developers that will be made available for download during the 2006 Christmas period. The express version will be a free download, and will targeted at allow hobbyists to easily create games. Programmers can create Windows games for free with the XNA framework, but to get their games to run on the Xbox 360 they will have to pay an annual fee of $99 for admission to the 'creators club'. XNA Game Studio Express will also provide basic 'starter kits' which will provide frameworks for developing specific genres of games, such as platform, real-time strategy, and first-person shooters. In the initial release there will be no way of shipping precompiled binaries to other Xbox 360 players. Instead, others wishing to run the game must have access to the source code and their own membership in the "creators club" program. Distribution of binaries for Windows will be supported.

A beta version was released on August 30, 2006. The aimed release date of the final version is this Christmas season.

SOOOO HAPPPY about this!!!!! I can't WAIT to see where this goes. The future of XBox 360 has now gotten a little brighter for me.

Anyone interested in testing out the XNA program, here is a link to download the BETA version:

All true and good, but who is willing to sit down and program a game around here? The things I've programmed helped me make master-codes on the Gameboy, and that's pushing it.

This isnt really targeted towards your "average" user. There are a lot of people who want to program games but havent been hired by game companies. This will give programmers who havent had a chance yet, to show their work. Having gone to a school that has a Game Design program I know a lot of those students see this as an amazing oppurtunity to show off their skills.

yeah what franco said... and already some universities are thinking about adopting this program as their main source in teaching and developing... kinda crazy that we might see some 360 arcade games published from big time developers based on what some guy in a class room made

Eh, you never know. There could be a 1-post wonder around here that has 1337 skillz when it comes to this, I've considered playing around with it, as i'm working on an algebra program.

I'm thinking microsoft is using this though to get more good coders out on the market for companies on their console. I'm sure EA is going to hire 4-6 new coders in the next year.
