Assassin's Creed is the next-gen game developed by Ubisoft Montreal that will redefine the action genre. While other games claim to be next-gen with impressive graphics and physics, Assassin's Creed merges technology, game design, theme, and emotions into a world where you instigate chaos and become a vulnerable, yet powerful, agent of change.
The setting is 1191 AD. The Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You, Altair, intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict.
You are an Assassin, a warrior shrouded in secrecy and feared for your ruthlessness. Your actions can throw your immediate environment into chaos, and your existence will shape events during this pivotal moment in history.
Key Features

Be an Assassin - Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history's deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape.
Realistic and responsive environments - Experience a living, breathing world in which all your actions have consequences. Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests.
Action with a new dimension – total freedom - Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever, and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. Scale buildings, mount horses, blend in with crowds. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objectives.
Relive the epic times of the Crusades - Assassin's Creed immerses you in the realistic and historical Holy Land of the 12th century, featuring life-like graphics, ambience, and the subtle, yet detailed nuances of a living world.
Intense action rooted in reality - Experience heavy action blended with fluid and precise animations. Use a wide range of medieval weapons, and face your enemies in realistic swordfight duels.
Next-gen gameplay - The proprietary engine developed from the ground up for the next-gen console allows organic game design featuring open gameplay, intuitive control scheme, realistic interaction with environment, and a fluid, yet sharp, combat mechanic.

Some new info...

News has also circulated about a 'sci-fi twist', due to information from developer interviews, and some effects visible in trailers of the game. It is theorized that the historical setting may be a simulation, or perhaps some sort of genetic memory, for purposes of training or other gain, being undertaken by an unknown group in the present or near future. During a trailer shown at E3, the screen would glitch and go fuzzy at times, and at one point where Altaïr is killed, the screen fades to black and then shows a head's up display with the words 'computer offline'. Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed will be part of a trilogy, and has also stated that one or both of the sequels may have a futuristic setting.
On September 28, 2006, in an interview with IGN, producer Jade Raymond confirmed that Altaïr is "a medieval hitman with a mysterious past" and that he is not a time traveler. The 'computer offline' message may be a computer that is decoding these memories, and death in the memory is some kind of glitch in the system.

The combat in this game looks sweet. You have four weapons the sword, the hidden sword, throwing knives, and you fists. But as i was watching alsmost every assassins creed trailer today i discovered maybe another weapon no one has told us about. The crossbow. It is there on his back almost every time and he even uses it in this trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJQhZtDgF1A. Now i guess they could have taken it off but they did say you get new weapons when you rank up. He doesnt have the crossbow in the 07 demo but in other trailers he does. That makes me think you might be able to use it further into the game.

Ubisoft did a great job with the Prince of Persia trilogy and I have no doubt that they will make Assassin's Creed just as good if not better.

My girlfriend and I are counting down the days until this comes out. If there's a studio that can do a concept like this justice, I think it has to be Ubisoft.

I loved Assassin's Creed ever since that day I got it. But I was also sorta disapointed. The memory stuff in the game wasn't really necessary. I think it would have been better with out it. But Ubisoft probable added it in so it wasn't a lot like Prince of Persia. So out of all of this i would give it a 9.5 out of 10.

I love the story and the setting. I finished this game up a few weeks ago and whenever i go to my Comparative mythology class something my teacher says or something i read reminds me of this. I can never be free. Can't wait for the second one.
