Help with Spoiler Tags

I'm trying to input spoiler tags into my guide. I located this code

This is a spoiler

so where it says "test" you have to put in a unique label.
I posted it as tailz and it looked like this

So am i supposed to paste it like that into the guide? Or what,
i tried splitting it up and putting the [/spoiler]at the end of
the paragraph but that won't work. It doesn't give me the
spoiler tags. I read Routine X's instructions, but it won't work.

I was just experimenting with the code, and it seems if you have your text colors different than everything else, it screws with the code. For example...
