New Achievements = Samurai Sword?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched the first seven pages and couldn't find a related thread.
So say I have 970 of the original Halo GS. Then I get a couple of the new achievements and it bumps up to a thousand. Does that earn you the Samurai sword?

If your talking about the Katana sword... To get this sword, you have to have all the achievements the full orginal 1k, as well as the Hayabusa armor, and you must get all the skulls silver and gold ones

For some people this seems to work and then not for others, strange... My friend just got over 1000G in Halo 3 and he dosnt have all original achievements but he has unlocked the Security helmet and the Katana body peice.

some people are getting the katana and security from earning 1000 by getting the legenday achievements. but i'll never know because i got my katana a month after halo 3 came out

as far as I know, the answer is YES.

However the Katana and Security helmet require BOTH 1000/1000 GS AND 49/49 achs. So, don't just get the 1000, make sure you arent missing any necessary achs (since the new cheevos are worth a lot more)

I'm pretty sure you need the overkill achievement for the legendary achievements to give you the sword/helmet.

Some dude I know missing 3 campaign achievements, and got the 3 assassinations achievement, and he has the sword/helmet. He had overkill.

My friend was only missing Two for One, then he got the double double achievement and he has the sword/helmet too.

My other friend is only missing overkill, and he has 1000G+ because of the legendary achievements, but no sword/helmet.

I think that might be the problem. :)

Same thing happened to me. I got mine back last night after getting the lieutenant achievement. My understanding was that you received the katana after you completed all the achievements (before DLC). When you see someone running around with it you know you completed the game. I was pissed when mine disappeared!!! I worked really hard on it. It's back now so I'm ok again.

I had 975 GS and got 3 of the new achievements on lengendary maps...got over 1000 GS and still got the Security helmet and Katana body.

My friend got 1030 with one of the new achievements and got the sword and security. Don't know if it works for everyone but it did for him. I already had the 1000 so I'm not sure.

I doubt it counts toward the sword. It's the achievements that unlock it, not the points.

I have the Katana, and before the Legendary achievements came out, I had 995 GS, missing only Overkill.

I got 3 new achievements, and somehow I got the Katana.

I still don't have Overkill.

My friend had 40-something achievements and over 1000 GS due to the new achievements, and no Katana. I told him to get more until he got 49 total achievements. He did. Still no Katana. He's missing Two For One, Mongoose Mowdown, Stepping Razor, and Maybe Next Time Buddy out of the original achievements, and he has 50 achievements unlocked. So maybe you have to have one or more of the above in order to get the Katana?

On reading this thread, I thought I'd do some testing for you guys, and see if I can figure something out... And hopefully give you a guide of achievements that you need to get them, and it's not as hard as you think...

I had 38 Achievements worth 970 points about an hour ago, I then tried for the Terminal Achievement to boost me to 1000 points, to then gain the Helmet and Katana, but I didn't get them... So now I had 39 out of 79 Achievements worth 1010... So I tried for a Free for All Achievement...

I have just finished playing Lone Wolves... In that game, I got the 5 Stickies Achievement, which pushed me up to 40 out of 79 Achievements worth 1015, just over half the total of Achievements, and looking on Appearance, I now have the Katana Sword AND the Security Helmet... So you do NOT need the Original 49 Achievements, and you don't even need a mix of the DLC ones to make up a total of 49 Achievements either...

I'll put the list of Achievements below in order of when I got them, the latest at the top, going down to the oldest... So make sure you have the following if you are unsure about which ones to attain...

Lee R Wilson Memorial - Score 5 grenade sticks in any ranked free for all playlist.
Marathon Man - Locate and access all Terminals in the Campaign.
Headshot Honcho - Kill 10 enemies with headshots in a ranked free for all playlist or in campaign.
Too Close to the Sun - Destroy an enemy banshee with the spartan laser or missile pod in a ranked playlist or in campaign.
Flag Dropped - On a Legendary map, get 2 flag carrier kills during any ranked or social match.
Double Double - On a Legendary map, get two Double Kills during any ranked or social match.
Defend This - On a Legendary map, get a flag melee kill during any ranked or social match.
Askar - Score over 15,000 points in the Campaign meta-game on the fourth mission.
Up Close and Personal - Kill 5 enemies by melee or assassination in a ranked free for all playlist.
Cavalier - Score over 15,000 points in the Campaign meta-game on the third mission.
Demon - Score over 15,000 points in the Campaign meta-game on the second mission.
Guerilla - Score over 15,000 points in the Campaign meta-game on the first mission.
Campaign Complete: Legendary - Finish the Campaign on Legendary (unlocks achievements for Normal and Heroic, if not earned).
Campaign Complete: Heroic - Finish the Campaign on Heroic (unlocks achievement for Normal, if not earned).
Used Car Salesman - Destroy a vehicle that has three enemies in it in a ranked playlist or in campaign.
Triple Kill - Kill 3 enemies within 4 seconds of one another in a ranked free for all playlist.
Tilt - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Thunderstorm - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Famine - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Catch - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Spartan Officer - Advance to the Spartan Officer ranks.
MVP - Earn the MVP in any ranked playlist.
Campaign Complete: Normal - Finish the Campaign on Normal.
Return - Finish the final mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Mythic - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Fog - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Tough Luck - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Black Eye - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
Iron - Find and claim this skull when playing on Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty.
The Key - Finish the eighth mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Last Stand - Finish the seventh mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Refuge - Finish the sixth mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Cleansing - Finish the fifth mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Assault - Finish the fourth mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
The Road - Finish the third mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Holdout - Finish the second mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
Landfall - Finish the first mission of the Campaign on Normal, Heroic, or Legendary.
UNSC Spartan - Earn your Sergeant rating to be recognized as a true Spartan.
Graduate - Earn 5 EXP or finish 10 games to complete the requirements for basic training.
Fear the Pink Mist - Kill 5 enemies with the needler in a ranked free for all playlist or in campaign.

If you get all of these, you should get the Katana and Security Helmet... So it isn't really that difficult, just keep trying for the Free for All ones above and the Legendary ones... I'm not sure if it has updated my Player Snapshot, but feel free to see my Service Record for Loss the Maia on www.bungie.net (http://www.bungie.net) to see the Katana and my Achievements for yourself...

To be quite honest..all permutations of armor are useless. They are implemented into the game for visual preference rather than how well they work.

Just thought I'd throw that out there, y'know, to make sure you're not placing your bets on the ODST helmet or anything..;-)

NO YOU DON'T! Read my above post and what I wrote before the list of achievements... You do NOT need 49 Achievements... Only some Free for All ones and Legendary mixed and 1000gs...

All of you have to do is get 1000G n Halo 3 to get the Katana and Security Helmet, I have all the original achievements for it, so I got it the old way before the new achievements came out. But went to a friends house to help him get achievements on Halo 3, so I got him alot, and he arrived at or past 1000G, then he had Security Helmet and Katana. So as far as I know it works.

It depends on the person, some people just need 1000 gamerscore while others need 1000 and 49 achievements, though if you do not have 49 achievements and you have the Kantana then it is prone to relocking itself next time you edit your armor.

To be quite honest I would like to figure it out myself. I have 53 acheivements, only missing two for one and something else that I cant remember off the top of my head, and 1115 GS for Halo 3. Last night when I got Road Rage my Katana and Security Helmet vanished.:mad:

Oh and Lossifer I have all those and more yet my Katana vanished. So that isnt the issue....

You absolutely do NOT have to get the original 1000 anymore.Go check my Sucha dirtygirl account. I got the katana without getting all the org. achvs.

That's incorrect. I had all the legendary achievements, and the original achievements with the exception of Two for One and I've had the sword for a while.

Sorry you're half wrong. I got my Katana at 47 achievements at exactly 1000 but that inlcudes DLC.

The one true constant I have seen for the sword so far is 1,000 gamerscore. 47,49 achievements is irrelavent.

My friend brought his account over to my house, we got him xbox live, he didn't have any of the FFA ranked achievements, triple Kill, over kill, and by the time I got him the Mythic skulls he had 1060 gamerscore in Halo and then he unlocked his precious sword.

From reading this it seems that you may need campaign complete on ledgendary, marathon man and at least 1 FFA achievement with either 1000gs+ or 49 acheivements to unlock katana and secrutity, just a guess but it may the case.

You can see that I'm wearing the Katana right there, and that I only have 985 Gamerscore and 51 Achievements. I'm fairly sure that I've had the Katana since well before that too. I've gotten Post Mortem, Two For One, Alas, Poor Yorick, and Headshot Honcho with the Katana at least, and I believe I've also gotten Too Close to the Sun, Steppin' Razor, and Triple Kill with it too.

Of course, I could be mistaken about Too Close to the Sun, Steppin' Razor, and Triple Kill, I don't remember specifically. Assuming that I am, if you take my 51 Achievements and subtract Post Mortem, Two For One, Alas, Poor Yorick, and Headshot Honcho, then that would total up to 47.

Given my own experiences, I'm inclined to believe that it may be just that you have to get 47 Achievements.

yes and no.

yes as in if you have over 49 achievements and 1000 gamerscore on halo 3, the katana will unlock.

no as in it might be glitchy and disappear and reappear randomly UNLESS you get the original 49 and 1000.

can u be a little clearer? what achievement? i.e. its pretty hard to get "Flag Dropped" or "Campaign Complete: Legendary" in Lone Wolves. So we can only help if you tell us the achievement.

As a reply to my last post, I have now lost my security helmet and katana. I believe this is due to me unlocking 49 achievements. I still have under a thousand points, so I think getting a few more achievements should fix this problem.
