View Full Version : Official English Premiership Thread
So then, everything Prem related in here, that includes domestic and European football. Thread name just sounded better, thats all.
This weeks highlights -
Liverpool get goalless draw in Eindhoven - An unfortunate draw for Liverpool as they dominate away from home with star performances from Kuyt and Agger.
Chelsea take 3 points at home against Bremen - An easy 3 points for Chelsea as Essien stars and Ballack takes the penalty kick duty from Lampard.
Man Utd take 3 in the close encounter of the Brits - Solskjaer and Saha get United the 3 points in a 3-2 thriller at Old Trafford.
Last years' finalists Arsenal take all three away from home - So Arsenal won 2-1 after Hamburg's keeper gets sent off and a superb strike from Rosicky. Good start for the Gunners considering the start to the league they are having.
THIS WEEKS HOT TOPICS -
Chelsea v. Liverpool
Manchester United v. Arsenal
So without doubt the biggest weekend of the Prem with the star 4 in action against each other.

Highlight of the week- Argyles comeback for a 3-3 after being 3-0 down against Cardiff ;)
I did notice that Minty, was quite shocked TBH lol
So then, UEFA tonight, good luck to the English teams :) Nice to see Tottenham win it this year. I think they have every chance ;)

Chelsea - 1 liverpool - 0
Arsenal - 1 manchester united - 0
and portsmouth are still top of the table.
I know! Whats up with that! lol
Chelsea were lucky sons of man!
Liverpool win 2-0 against the Magpies and Alonso scores from his own half!!!
Crazy shit man! Alonso. I officially am not worthy  :p
Kuyt off the mark as well. Still not playing too well though.

Notice this hasnt been updated for a while........ Im a massive Tottenham Hotspur fan and if anyone other than me is interested they are playing Balckburn on Sunday which is being shown on Sky Sports 1, My prediction for the game is going to be 3-1 to the mighty Spurs with Robbie Keane to score first............ Wonder what odds id get on that at the bookies!!!
Spurs are in dire form so I'll presume it would be pretty good odds from a punters perspective. 3 or 4 to 1 maybe?

Dire form.......... How can you possibly say that? Before their 3-1 loss to Reading at the weekend they had a run of 8 games undefeated including a 2-1 win over Chelsea at the fortress that is White Hart Lane, Blackburn are the out of form team so i reckon a good game for us
Look where you are in the table man, Tottenham and Liverpool should be in the top 6 and thus puts them both under the dire form category. Undefeated, but a shit load of lucky draws, take the Villa game for one!
Check the odds online on that result and let me know ;) Cause I have a feeling that's pretty accurate.

Firstly.......... Are you following me ;)
I do agree that our current position in the table isnt the best but at least things can only get better!!
Current odds on Skybet for Spurs winning 3-1 (It is at Ewood Park) is 20/1 but cant get the odds for Robbie scoring first......... Almost worth a flutter i reckon
20-1, so my 3-4 to 1 was a tad generous :p
And I always click the new posts button, so wherever you are, I'll be there :biglaugh

This weekends Premiership fixtures:
12:45 Man City - Fulham
15:00 Arsenal - Newcastle
15:00 Chelsea - West Ham
15:00 Everton - Bolton
15:00 Portsmouth - Watford
15:00 Reading - Charlton
15:00 Sheff Utd - Man Utd
17:15 Middlesbro - Liverpool
13:30 Wigan - Aston Villa
16:00 Blackburn - Tottenham
My predictions:
Man City will beat Fulham, Good home form this season and are starting to pick up a bit after their bad start........ Having Micah Richards play a full 90 minuted for England is a big boost too - 2-0 to City
Unfortunately Arsenal will beat Newcastle, With the Magpies shoddy defence and the way the Gunners can attack i see this as a bit of a no brainer - 3-0 to Arsenal
I reckon that Westham will give Chelsea a good run for their money although i still see them edging the win....... The best the Hammers can hope for is a hard fought draw - 1-0 to Chelsea
Everton and Bolton are 2 tough teams and i see this as being a low scoring game probably with Bolton grabbing a late winner - 1-0 to Bolton
Portsmouth are in need of a decent win and i see Watford giving it to them - 2-1 to Pompey
When a team gets a new manager they usually have a couple of games where they win so unfortunately i see Charlton winning this one although id prefer Reading too!! - 2-0 to Charlton, Darren Bent to score both!
On Man Utd's current form i dont see them losing to Sheffield United even if it is at Bramell Lane, easy win for them - 4-1 to United
Boro against Liverpool i see as the scousers winning, if Stevie G can pull another goal out of the bag like last years winner against them then that suits me - 2-0 to Liverpool
Wigan against Villa should be interesting, My heart says Wigan but my head says Villa so my head it is......... Close game though - 2-1
And Finally Blackburn against Tottenham....... Ive expressed my views on this in my above posts
We shall see on Monday how well ive done!!
What does everyone else think?
12:45 Man City - Fulham DRAW
15:00 Arsenal - Newcastle HOME WIN
15:00 Chelsea - West Ham HOME WIN
15:00 Everton - Bolton DRAW
15:00 Portsmouth - Watford HOME WIN
15:00 Reading - Charlton DRAW
15:00 Sheff Utd - Man Utd AWAY WIN
17:15 Middlesbro - Liverpool DRAW  0-0 written all over it :(
13:30 Wigan - Aston Villa AWAY WIN
16:00 Blackburn - Tottenham AWAY WIN

Well not doing too bad so far....... although it was 3-1 to City they did win by 2 goals!
Arsenal and Newcastle drawing was a great result for Newcastle and Spurs fans!! Shay Given was on fire yesterday.
Cheslea - Westham exactly right!
Got the Everton and Bolton one round the wrong way but knew it would be tight.
Pompey score exactly right.
Charlton are shit....... FACT!
Man Utd didnt quite manage 4 but they should have with the chances they created.
Webbmeister was damn right about Boro Liverpool........ what a shocking game!
Spurs play today......... Come on boys!

I'm sorry to have to post this as I run the risk of Webb going off on one - but JESUS CHRIST REF HOW CAN YOU BOOK ALONSO FOR DIVING???????? I watched the entire Liverpool v Arsenal game and saw Arsenal playing every cheap shot in the book to try and win. Alonso got clattered. Stupid tackle plain and simple, yet the referee gets it wrong. And no-one can accuse me of bias - as a Man U fan, I hate both teams equally, but it's about time that shit refs had some kind of action taken against them.
End of rant - prediction Utd 3 - Villa 1 , first goal Larsson.
To be honest man, I don't blame the ref for that game, I blame Dudek and Crouch as both are equally as shit!!! Dudek should have saved two of the three goals, Reina would have... And Crouch :mad: Don't get me started on that dick! I'm so hoping that Newcastle buy him and we get Villa :D

You've as much chance of getting David Villa as a nun has of catching syphallis ! He'll probably end up at Old Trafford just to rub salt into that scouse wound ;) .
Seriously though, I think Utd will sign either him or Torres as well as Christian Bale.
Prediction = close, oh so close !!!
Close? Wasn't it 1-1? lol Or did I turn off too soon?
Villa will come with the Spanish contingent over at Anfield and you know it fella ;)

You definitely turned off too soon. Good old Ole does it right at the death again!!
Ref transfers - we'll see, but I think Benitez needs to shed some dead wood first - its the only way for you guys to progress - you're carrying too many people or have too many whom have sporadic patches of form.
Cant wait til we play you lot next....lol

Haven't seen a Chelsea defense so crap in ages!!!! They're crapping themselves trying to challenge Crouch! Great goal Pennant and fabulous finish from Kuyt. My prediction's gone to shit and I can't see Chelski getting back into this one...
Today is gonna be a good day me thinks :)
37 mins left, could do with a third to finish them off.
And Lunn fella, your prediction would always go to shit when you say the mighty Liverpool will lose ;)

Webb, I would respond with something witty and original... but I'm just too angry at the moment. Even the Mrs. has gone out of my way to do some ironing  .
Watching it with an Arsenal supporting Father-in-Law didn't help either.
Oh, and Eboue wins my Dirtiest Bastard of the Year award.
Still got a 6 point gap though - turns out Liverpool did us a big favour this weekend, as well as Abramovich doing us a favour in his rift with Jose.

I'd say 2-1 Chelsea tomorrow, Arsenal always bottle it ;)

Good Prediction!;) but poor JT:( i dont think he will play again this season:( shame the final was ruined by the injury and the fight:boxer whats the bet that the fa slam down on that!? 3 or 5 match ban? But oh well we won the first of (hopefully) 4!:drunk
Fancy that, me getting it right :p lol
I'm sure that will be all you win this season in all honesty. The league is all but gone and can not see that lot winning Europe (no offence). Maybe the FA Cup is still possible...
xJoex
02-26-2007, 08:12 PM
Yer i think you might be right:( I can just see chelsea losing to porto and even if they dont they will proberly get knocked out in the Quarters! i think the league will be close (1-3 points) but man u will grab it:( i think there is still a chance in the fa cup but spurs wont exactly be easy (remember last time:mad: )
Nice to see Terry isnt too bad but he wont play for a couple of weeks because it was a head injury!
At least the league is a little closer this year. Next year is going to be even closer seeing as Liverpool have a lot of cash to spend and Arsenal's kids will be even better.
Should be fun :D
xJoex
02-26-2007, 08:23 PM
Yer! its boring when someone runs away with it because theres more of a climax when its the last game of the season and it goes down to a few points or goal difference!
Does anyone know what the rules are on Qualifying for the champions league and uefa cup? i think they changed it when the president of uefa changed:confused: i just wanna know if Reading have a chance to get into europe (because there my nearest(sucsessful) club, before anyone says i change teams, lol:p )
Not sure to be honest, isn't it top 4 champions league, two have to play a qualifier. 5 and 6 get UEFA and along with the cup winners.
xJoex
02-26-2007, 08:37 PM
Thats what i thought but its been all changed apparently because that some countries (like england) where getting more clubs in europe! We have the best league and clubs therefore we should have them all in europe lol:p
Also last year the runners up in the cups got into europe (remember Millwall!)
Millwall only got a place because the winners were already in Europe though ;)

United have been playing terrible for the past month or so. They have been so lucky to beat Fulham and Liverpool. Both were flukes. They beat Lille 1-0 today though. Hopefully they can pull it together and bring the Premiership trophy back to Old Trafford!

So Man Utd drop points against Pompey (Worst I've seen Utd play all season - yes that includes the flukey win against Fulham), Chelsea pick up a valuable 3 points against Spurs (Damn you Robinson, you long-range liability!) and now both teams face a struggle to get through their Champions League ties against Roma and Valencia respectively.
So what are the predictions then guys?
Here's mine:
Man Utd to finish league level on points with Chelsea but win league due to superior goal difference.
Man Utd beaten but Chelsea go through in Tuesday's Champions League games. (This hurt to type, but on form, I can't see Utd turning Roma over - I hope the Manc Police keep an eye on the Ultras though...).

ha good comeback. remind me never to question your godly football knowledge again :p .
oh yes, congratulations to chelsea, hopefully if liverpool get through which is just a formality, then 3/4 semifinalists are english, which is great for english football. My predictions:
Munich 2 - 1 Milan (4-3 aggregate)
L'pool 2 - 0 PSV (5-0 agg)
Semis
Liverpool to beat chelsea
Man utd to beat Munich
Final
Man utd 10 - 0 L'pool :p
no really utd 2 - 1 lpool
I reckon we'll sink Chelsea and Man Utd will be too occupied with the Premiership to get past an impressive Milan or a not dead yet Munich.

Shef Utd were unfortunately the architects of their own downfall today - idiotic penalty to give away when goal difference played such a huge factor.
I'm disappointed as I really wanted Wigan to go down. At the risk of being controversial, I didn't agree with the sour grapes evidenced by Dave Whelan after the verdict was reached over the whole West Ham-Transfer episode.
I also have lost a lot of respect for Paul Jewell this season, seems all he did between seasons last year was go to moaning, bitching and crying school.
As Webb said, classic season, one of the most dramatic seasons of recent times, cementing the Premiership's position as most exciting league in Europe.
Now bring on the FA Cup Final. PLEASE just make it more exciting than Wednesdays piss-poor dress rehearsal...

I have mixed feelings about Hargreaves. As long as he gets over his injury and plays as well as he did in the World Cup i will be fine. But I'm wondering where this leaves Carrick? He mustn't be happy being replaced after a year. His play was pretty good, I thought he played up to United's standards.
Oh well we will have to wait and see.
I personally think Fergie see's Hargreaves AND Carrick playing in the centre, I mean, Scholes is no spring chicken anymore, he must be 32/33 now. So there will probably be some rotation till Scholes has passed it.
I'm still not sure why he hasn't attempted to fill the more important positions, like a striker to play with Rooney or another winger to play on the opposite wing of Ronaldo, cause lets be honest, Fletcher isn't that good!
As for my team (Liverpool), watch this space, we're gonna sign some HUGE players in the summer ... I hope :p We have the cash now :woop:

Ha I never thought of Hargreaves and Carrick playing together. Scholes has just been a definite choice in the midfield for so long. It will be sad to see him and Giggs leave, along with a few others.

05-21-2007, 11:05 AM
Ah but have you not noticed that United are playing 3 up top with 3 in midfield - I can see him playing all 3 with giggs ronaldo and rooney up top. However yes we need a striker - Torres would be nice - and probably another winger - but considering the transfer window hasn't started yet there's plenty of time.

Is David Villa still connected with liverpool...? If he came to England we would have some top goalscorer contest. Drogba (If he stays), Ronaldo, Villa, Rooney and many others which i can't think of atm...:p
David Villa has been linked with Liverpool, United AND Chelsea, so who knows where he'll go. I personally think he'll stay at Valencia cause he going to cost a shit load!!!
We defo need a prolific striker though!!! :D

Oh, i didn't know he had been linked with United and Chelsea... but who isn't linked with Chelsea!? lol!:D Yeah, he will cost so much it won't be worth it in the end...
I just hope, for all the liverpool fans sake, that liverpool don't go mental and buy some semi-decent, passed it or injured player for a load of money like Chelsea did, because as a Chelsea fan i know that you will always be given stick for the money your club has spent and its even worse when the moneys been spent on players that don't help the club progress in any way.:(

You think Shevchenko is a semi-decent, past it footballer? Do you even watch football? He is a world-class striker played in a team and a system that doesn't suit his style whatsoever. If he went back to Milan (which I doubt he will, this summer at least) you'd see him banging the goals back in. Just because he doesn't fit into the Chelsea system, it doesn't make him a poor footballer.
xJoex
05-21-2007, 04:11 PM
No way! I can see why you thought this because of the way i worded it. Sorry. I meant that Sheva came to Chelsea injured and then was expected to play the English game straight away, but didn't, so people (not me personally) thought that he wasn't all that any more. I used passed it and semi-decent, but they were not directed at Sheva.
I think Sheva's still great but he had a slow start because of the injury, and that he has to play in a different system. I will edit it so it doesn't seem like i'm a Shevchenko hater.;)
Also, yes i do watch football:p

I reckon if Sheva stays he could be a real hit next year. Drogba was amazing last year but he was awful his first season in the Prem, falling over at almost every opportunity and missing easy chances. It does take a while to adjust to the English game, and Sheva is world-class, and class usually shows in the end.
He's on the wrong end of his peak though, it's only downhill from where he is. I personally think that he's not comfortable with the lack of time and lack of space he gets on the ball. In the Prem, you have players on you within seconds so have to act quick whereas Italy, he was probably dictating the pace of the game.

I completely agree with you webby. No other league can compete with the pace of the prem, especially the italian league. The game there is much more strategic (sp?) and slow. In the premiership its all quick reactions, just the way i like it.

Oh I agree, the Prem is far faster than Italian footy, but he's had a big number of chances this season that he should definitely have put away, the kind he would usually put away in Italy. I just feel that in his case, it's a confidence thing. If he puts a few away early doors next season, we could see him back to his best.

Fellow Magpie fans eh? Nice one!
What do you think of the 'New Newcastle' so far?
4 new signings, no strings-attached for once. Looks like the combination of Mike Ashley & Big Sam is starting to turn us around, which is nice to see.
The last time Newcastle fans enjoyed supporting Newcastle was under the managing of Bobby Robson, until he lost his managerial touch.
I think we're destined to do well this season. 3 signings, 1 more just about finished (Geremi waiting for his work permit), Newcastle's backstages are taking a turnaround.
You hit the nail right on the head, Arsenal lose out to Newcastle.

So, Sven-Goran Eriksson met the squad at Man City today. Personally, I'm noy overly excited at the prospect of the Swede in charge, but he's got to be better than Stuart Pearce.
The quality of football was as bad as I have ever seen last season, even worse than during our rapid descent into the third tier of english football a few years ago.
Apparantly, Thaksin Shinawatra our new owner will bank roll the club to the tune of 50-60 million for new players. Great news, but considering that we have only 3 premier league standard players on the staff currently (Dunne, Richards and Isaksson), I don't think 60 mill will be enough. There's room for at least 12 more players for the 1st team squad. Even then it would be a small squad.
At the start of last season, I thought we might struggle, this time I think we'll be lucky to get 10 points. Unless Sven has a magic wand of proportions never before seen in professional sport, Man City will be playing Championship football in 2008/09.

Hargreaves isnt bad, not a league winner though.. And tbh like Webby said the Brazilian and portugeezer are unproven in a top league, i dont have enough fingers to count the amount of young players being hailed as the next big thing and totally flopped
And just signing Torres wont win us the league, but if we sign 2 world class wingers aswell we'll stand a better chance than most for sure

Ya....having friendly's and euro 08 qualifiers mid-week kind of ruins your club weekend. Even though i'm a die-hard Blues fan i must admit, that PK against you guys was VERY weak. I can see where it came from because it was an off-the-ball hit, however he never should have gone down...he was creeping up on Italian soccer for that dive...
Hopefully it's just a slow start for Chelsea and i would LOVE to see Man U lose by a big margin. Should be interesting to see how the back line holds Tevez...
On a lighter note, my father worked with Matt Oakley's dad 3 years ago when he still played for Southhampton FC so i have a gameworn long sleeve jersey from him which is sick. I decided to slap him on my fantasy team and he has 3 goals already!!!

Not ready for the game agaisnt pompey? I think you were mate, that's just a hard ass place to go to. Also your tactics were shocking, why did Benitez leave out his two best players in Gerrard and Torres, plus Babel? 3 goalscorers. To be carried off on a stretcher with a pack of ice....come on. His legs were fine. If he wanted to make it realistic he should have at least walked off the pitch...Hopefully he gets smashed with fines and suspensions.
As for Chelsea....I don't even know where to begin. We have 0 offensive prowess because Lampard and Drogba are 50/50 to playing anytime soon, and Shevchenko....don't even get me started. I have hated Grant since last season and when I heard he was taking over, I looked around my room and saw $500 of Chelsea shit that I was wondering to myself....what do I do if Grant runs them in the ground. The rumors of the Holland coach, then the Russian coach have all been squashed so now I have no clue who is "in the lead" for the job. I just want them to pick a coach and stick with him. Otherwise I might have to change my allegiance to ManU.........hahahahahaha....just kidding

I've been surprised by Arsenal to be honest. I mean, I've seen them play a fair bit this season and they've been poor but still got the results.
Tis quite an old post but still, they started their season well and have kept it going except for today, although I missed the second half sadly, I have no idea why and it is a huge coincidence each time, but every time I watch liverpool play in a match it makes me feel tired, its not because their crap or boring there a good team, but everytime I watch them play I slowly fall asleep xD

But that is the formula of champions. You can win the few games 4/5-0, but you can also grind out 1-0 results if you have to.
I'm an Arsenal fan, and I think we can hold our own against the top teams. But we have to pick up results against Mid-Table teams if we want to really contend for the title. We'll see the table after 20/25 games and then see how are really the contenders.

Big game, Arsenal vs. Man U, I'm hoping Arsenal will be able to win it, but it will be a hard match, looking kind of dim I think :(
Both teams playing great so should be a great game.

Yeah i watched it. I guess one way you look at it, it kind of takes Chelsea and Liverpool further out the way so its more of a two horse race for the title, whereas if they had of drawn, it would be more of a three horse race, still a long way to go though....

I can't see utd slipping up either, arsenal are starting to run out of steam, liverpool are well out of it already, man city havent got a chance with their away form, and chelsea aren't that great.
So i guess the question is what order will they finish in? I think Liverpool will miss out on the top 4.

You two have no idea what you are on about... Man U out played Liverpool? Pfffft. Tinted glasses anyone ;)
The goal was shocking Liverpool defending, that's all. Hell, I could see where that corner was going when Rooney peeled out the box, god knows how the "professionals" missed it.

Talking of United, what are your views on all this stuff in the news today about the party goings-on? Personaly, it seems like a load of rubbish? It seems an unfortunate part of being in that role, with the the money and fame, is having these types of allegations, and events, all for a bit of money/ carrer boost? West Ham 2-1 Man utd.

I'm a big Arsenal fan :D
To say i'm suprised by our team this season would be an understatement, once Thierry Henry left i thought it would be the end of us and we would struggle to reach 4th place....but we've been cruising!
It's exciting for Arsenal, people had written us off at the start of the season and now we're contending for the title!
If we don't win it, i won't be upset because we still have a fairly young squad and to finish in a better position that last season would be a very good achievement.

Definitely, it's something that needs looking at, i think we need more fitness as we seem to defend more in the latter stages or certain games. But i'm glad we're where we are now because we had trouble beating the likes of West Ham and such last season so there's a definite improvement.

I'm an Arsenal season ticket holder and on one hand i'm astonished at our current standing, but on the other hand, who am i to question Arsene Wenger?I thought we would struggle to get in the top 4,our team for our last few league games has cost less together than Fernando Torres alone, that proves we have the best coach/manager in world football at the moment.

Im a manchester United fan so would have to go with Ferguson as the best manager because of everything he has acheived in the modern game.
Arsene wenger however is certainly IMHO the best manager when it comes to transfers, he knows exactly when to buy and sell and reaps huge profits for players he paid pittence for like viera and manu petit.
Full credit to Arsenal though, they are top of the league for a reason.

im ashamed to hear another newcastle supporter say newcastle donot deserve to be in the premiership. Its not we donot deserve to be there, we have various good players, just all of them under achieved under sam allardyce as he played them out of position and never gave them a chance to use there abilities. How can you say that based on a performance where obviously everyones head's where down, and we had no manager to arrange the team properly. If you actually weatched the match you will of seen Steven taylor (a friend of mine in real life) and Jose Enrique both had superb games, both of who'm where played out of position by sam allardyce and never given a chance.
The Mesiah has finally returned, and before everyone jump's on the bandwagon saying "keegan's no magician". He might not be a magician, but he will ignite passion, flair, and attacking football back into the heart of the toon army. Unless you are a geordie, no-one under stands the passion up here, no where else in the country could you sit at a bus stop next to two 90 year old grandma's, and they will be talking about saturday's match.
At the end of the day i think most geordies would prefer us to loose 6-7 than win 1-0 as long as we seen our team was making an effort, putting their heart into the game, and trying to play their own game of football. (which we have had none of that under allardyce)
We arn't expecting to win the premier league every season, but considering close to 55,000 people come to watch the toon every home game, even after our current form! Show's that at very least us gerodie's deserve a bit of hope and some damn entertaining football in the process!
Any nutural fan or lover of football must be pleased to see keegan back in the premiership, some of the most entertaining/attacking games in the entire premiership (4-3 liverpool twice? / Man Utd 5-0 (yes that was voted the third best premiership match ever all you man utd fan's) so hopefully there will be alot more to come in the comming year's in the way of not only giving newcastle fan's something to chear about, but maybe also the mutual fan who just has a passion for watching some damn good football. (he played some lovely attacking football at fulham and man city, those who are big fan's of football should remember)
Its a great time to be up in the North East, everyone is excited and ready to get back behind the toon army, now we finally have a gerodie leading the team, Number 7, King Kev!

im sorry but i have to disagree, most toon fans wouldnt prefer to lose 7-6. so you are saying you would rather finish 17th winning 7-6 than win the league with 38 1-0 wins and a 100% record. no geordie in their right mind would want that. i personally couldnt stand travellin all away round the country and then losing, id much prefer a cheeky 1-0 win than a defeat. who wouldnt want to win in style but if allardyce had won every game1-0 not one person would have been complaining. the fact is he didnt - the football was shite, the results were shite and some of the players he has bought look inadequate (then again some look brilliant - beye and faye are massive improvements on the previous defenders).
I grew up with keegans flair and had season ticket throughout his time here, i love him as much as the next geordie. im absolutely buzzing for saturday. cant wait - we are going to tear bolton apart - the atmosphere will be electric and its a late kick off so can get pissd b4 heading to the ground!!! GET IN!!!! COOOM ON! now all i need is a return for Laurent Robert!!

I'm a tottenham fan and all those people who say newcastle don't deserve to be in the Premiership are idiots. Mainly, because they do deserve to be in it because THEY ARE IN IT, which means they have been promoted from the league below I.E. DESERVING TO BE THERE.

01-18-2008, 08:00 AM
i think you took my point a little out of context. Obviously talking of 100% win ratio's then any geordie would want that and to win the league.
My point is as of late there has been no heart, no soul and no comitement to the side. The fan's only got on the back of allardyce when we wernt playing football, nobody looked like they wanted to be on the pitch, and people wernt even trying.
If newcastle just gave the geordie's a bit of hope, like when we lost 4-3 to liverpool, sure we were all disapoionted we didnt get any point's, but at least we knew our team gave it their all and at least tried to make something of themself's and gave us some damn good football to watch.
Obviously no-one would prefer to loose over winning, but newcastle don't even have to win every game to get my support, all they really need to do is give me something to chear about, even if we are loosing.

yeh ok but the reaction from most of the fans is pathetic. as far as im concerned, you should never boo a player in a newcastle united shirt. the home fans are a different breed to ppl who travel away. most of them dont even seem to care about the team and just want to complain. when we finished 5th a few years ago under sir bob, people left in disgust calling the team every name under the sun during the lap of honour after the wolves match. most of them are so fickle and dont even know anything about the game they are watching. andy carroll came on last season and i heard half the people in the ground asking who he was. pathetic.

It would be funny if they lost their next 5 games :p. I don't think they will though, i think Kev will do alright. I predict 2 wins 2 draws and a loss in the next 5 games.
I hope Kev does good though, especially with him being from Donny. Newcastle deserve a bit of success, i hope "King Kev" can do it, i also hope he isn't past it. If he can get them into Europe this season i think that would be a massive achievement but i'm not sure he will. Good luck anyway.
mr syms
01-18-2008, 01:01 PM
got to agree with you on your point about the fan's. Alot of the so called "toon army" arn't even real geordie fan's and they do seem to just fish for excuses and thing's to complain about.
Personally this season i think kev's job is too keep us in the premiership, as we are only about 6point's behind relegation (i think anyway!). I have no doubt we will stay up, but pushing for europe when he has no time really to buy any player's is pushing it a bit too much for me. If he can do it then i'm sure us geordies will be extatic.
I think this season the toon army need to get behind the team, turn st james's back into the fortress it used to be, and then start a-fresh next season with a team chosen by keegan. I really hope none of the fan's get on his back this season, as he will basically be using the same player's as allardyce, so we can't expect HUGE miracles in the next 3month's.

Ronaldo is the best player in the world at the moment. I watched Kaka play for AC Milan against Napoli at the weekend, he was virtually nonexistent for most of the game, admittedly he did score a wondergoal but he was nonexistent for the large part. He literally only plays every other week for Milan, a team who are only 12th in Serie A!
Ronaldo plays week in week out for the best team in the world which is top of the Premiership, and he performs outstandingly most weeks. How Kaka won world player of the year over Ronaldo is beyond me. If Ronaldo keeps this up though he will kick Kaka out of the picture this year.

i dont think his target will be to avoid relegation. keegan isnt that type of guy. he will want to push on and try and move the team forward. despite how we'v played this season, i think we'v got a really good squad and should be at least 8th. admittedly ive been very disappointed with the summer signings but faye and beye are quality players and if rozehnal was played in defensive mid then he would be doing a lot better (he got psg's palyer of the year playin there). vidukas got an unbelievable touch, its mjust hes a lazy bastard. and then b4 sam even got there we had some top players: given, taylor, milner, duff, nzogbia, owen. i can see charlie nzog taking on a centre mid role under keggy tho with butt or hopefully a better passer of the ball playin def mid. more of a carrick who can run the game whilst holding.

Keegan in, and now holding talks with Shearer about a job there too, no confirmation as what job, don't think he'd get Assisstant job just yet but he could do. Those 2 would definately relight your passion.
Keegan was a good manager with good exciting games...but the players then and your players now...Were slightly different in standard. Peter Beardsley, shearer etc. Quality players could provide quality results. you don't have a bad team now, Martins, N'Zgobia (sp?) and occaisonally you have owen. Just see him needing time to rebuild, and will he get that? Or get the push if he doesn't provide a miricle right away.
