Melbourne

let's discuss goal of the season.

I heard that apparently ronaldo hits the ball on the valve or something so it gives it extra curl...
But i agree even though im not a fan of his, hes on fire at the moment. Saying that Adebayor isnt doing to bad either.

The subject was changed to Flamini.
anyways Ronaldo strikes a ball with the tongue of the boot whilst still swinging his leg leftward for a right angled swerve......like a wii-mote.

looks like your talking to my favourite premiership player... the guy is brillant hope we have him until he dies :P hes actually worth £55-60mil..
Beckham was the one that hit the valve... Still does when he's not crippled :p
And anyone saying that Man Utd can't even beat Tottenham, believe it or not, Spurs are playing really well recently. They'd be dangerous with a good centre back!

Seem to have got a good center back pairing finally in Woodgate and King :( And apparently Ronaldo, the King of Kings, actually makes contact with the ground before the ball when he strikes it.
Woodgate & King... Aren't they both injured?

Anyway about this playing games abroad thing. I dont understand how it would work? They are talking about having a 39 game season but that would mean each team would play 1 team 3 times, and i guess if one of the top 4 got an easier extra game than the other 3 then they would complain?
Any ideas on how it would work?
I have a feeling the top prem team at the end of the season would play the third promoted championship side 3 times next season, 2nd in prem would play 2nd best championship promoted side the next season, and so on till it meets in the middle. I guess that would be the only slightly fair way of doing it? Any opinions?
I read that it was to be drawn out of a hat with the top 4 teams being seeded so they couldn't meet each other, but come on, when was the last team the league was won by 3 points? It was a few years back I tell ya ;) The issue, is probably the other end of the table which is always a close finish.
I like the idea of games being played around the world to raise the profile of the league, but seriously adding another game to the calendar will confuse the fuck out of everyone :p

City do the league double over Man U for the first time in 37 years:woop: and the first win at OT in 33 years.
Hopefully City can maintain a good league position for the rest of the season and get into European Competition, but honestly I don't care, the future of my club looks good, I'm sure we'll only get better over the next few years.
On MOTD2 Alan Hansen was very generous with his praise for Dunne and Richards, and he knows a bit about playing at centre half.
Carlos Queiroz was moaning about players being away on international duty. TOUGH! City had players away too, same as every other team. Get on with it!

As long as Arsenal dont win the league. All there fans are suddenly starting to appear again after the last few years of shame!
I personally think Arsenal should play all there games abroad, it wouldnt make much of a diffrence. All there players would be better suited, if it wernt for their fans they could be playing in any country in Europe.

Face it, you are a sham and so is your way of thinking, speaking of foreign talent and whatnot, maybe you should find your own, Mikel and Essien were both cradlerobbed from Man U, infact, alot of Chelsea's buys stem from other teams' interest, so erm....shut up.

he isnt as good as martin O'Niell. MON finds the best of young english talent and turns them into great players and most of these players come from the Aston Villa youth and play 1st team football atm
villas 1st team has carson, barry, abonglahor, young, knight, davies, reo coker, maloney and harewood

The point is quality, and nothing more, to be fair O'Neill didn't discover a single player there, Barry's been a first teamer for almost 8 years, Agbonlahor was in the squad before he got there, Carson plays for Liverpool and was at his best at Charlton, therefore Iain Dowie "discovered" him, even though it was Houllier that signed him from Leeds. Young was a huge target for every premier league squad, Curtis Davies who is also a loan was one of Wenger's prime targets last year, Reo Coker made his trade at west ham, Shaun Maloney is Scottish, you moron. And Harewood was also pryed from West Ham.....The only player there that O'Neill deserves credit for is Maloney because he brought him up while they were at Celtic. But, he's Scottish and "what's the point, it's an ENGLISH league".

Well the tackle that Clichy gave on Liam Ridgewell at the end was a great tackle not a damn penalty. Clichy got a lot of the ball. But oh well. Eduardo's injury was horrific. Nothing like that should happen to anyone. And what I didnt like was Gallas. What the hell was he doing at the end. Its like the last day of the season and he thought Arsenal had given away the title or something. We are still 3 points ahead, alright? This probably made Man Utd laugh so loudly.

To be honest I think Arsenal will win the league they are a great team but still Man U deserve to win it I watched the game Vs Newcastle on Setanta Sports. They outclass any team in the prem but Arsenal are just doing well at the moment. I support West Ham and I am happy about how they are doing beating Fulham 1-0 at the weekend was good for them.
Man Utd v Newcastle had nothing at all to do with United playing well. That Newcastle performance yesterday was one of the worst I think I've ever seen in the Premiership.
And who was lol'ing at Lawrenson's prediction, he wasn't that far off, a hell of a lot closer than anyone said here ;)

Having said that the best player in the world plays in Italy.
Thinking about it, I can't remember a time that you could say that the best player in the world plays in the Premiership... the closest we came was Henry, but he was overshadowed by Ronaldhino and Zidane in my opinion.
Oh we have our fair share Saggy, actually, we all do. But imo, Italy only really has one of the worlds best players, i.e. Kaka, the rest are old :p
The thing is, we see these players week in, week out, so we don't put them on a pedestal like Messi, etc. In actual fact, players like Ronaldo, Gerrard, Rooney, Torres, Drogba, Terry, Berbatov are amongst some of the worlds greatest footballing talents and we probably take that for granted.

Shame that Arsenal are through :( Looks like all 4 English sides are going to progress to the next round then, definitely a good advertisement for English football (not that it needs one). By the way, this is the PREMIERSHIP thread yet were talking about the Champions League, hmmm.

Torres is awesome.. every now and then
I wouldnt mind him in the Man Utd squad though..lol
But C. Ronaldo has been awesome ALL season
By far the best player of the year.
And he's the heighest goalscorer in the Premiership at the mo,
And will probably win the golden boot at the end of the season.
Are you for real? Torres was out like 2 months and has scored back to back home hattricks and is still only a few goals behind him... He can perform in big ties as well... Name the last time Ronaldo performed against a decent team.

True
Ronaldo performs week in and week out against everybody.
I admit when he first joined Utd he'd only really play well against the average/crap teams
but this season he's gone up a gear or 2 and can tear holes in any defence.
Take Lyon for example..
Who are a good team, probably the best in france
They played all out deffence last night..
And who finds a gap and scores?
RONALDO!
Firstly, the centre alignment is annoying, you're not writing a poem are you? :p
Secondly, Lyon are an ok team. Hardly someone I would class as a world class team. Those are the teams that Ronaldo doesn't perform against. Give me an example where he did (and use a good team this time).

Funny, I watched all them games and I don't remember him standing out... Especially the Arsenal game, he was shite then. Can't really remember the Chelsea game but as far as Roma go, they were distinctly average last year, I said a good team. Where was he against AC Milan?

Come on, they were just automated responses. Course he was going to name the big teams. But as far as United at the Emirates went, Ronaldo was quiet, to be honest, so were most of the United team who sat back after taking a fairly early lead.

You obviosly dont like Ronaldo and therefore wont agree that he's an awesome footballer.
So lets just agree to disagree
Otherwise this could go on forever...lol

I think Ronaldo is a fantastic footballer, he was my first choice in the Dream Team this year and will probably be next year (maybe second behind Torres now :p), but I just get a little disappointed that he can't do it against the big guns. Gerrard wont be in there for me, he has been average this season bar 1 or 2 games, there have been better players, id actually go as far to say Flamini would be a better choice (as much as it hurts to say being a united fan) also id still put evra ahead of Clichy
But here is mine
Van Der Sar
(joint most clean sheets doesnt lie)
Melberg, Ferdinand, Vidic/Lescott, Evra
Ronaldo, Flamini, Cesc, Bently
Tevez, Adebayor

Only because the good teams have enough sense to double or even triple up on him, allowing him no space at all. But then that frees up the likes of Rooooooney and Tevez to do their stuff, so I personally don't mind if people say Ronaldo doesn't perform agaisnt the big teams, because it frees up space for other players.

Not really, the referee is biased to one side alot, mainly the underdog, so therefore it doesn't happen to everyone. But what sort of league has the FA created if it is the referees who decide the outcome of most games due to poor refereeing, we either need completely new ref's, new training of ref's, get rid of the FA and start afresh or even with all the outcry's that still hasn't happened, better technology. I would not care at all to wait 10 seconds if they just stopped the clock and to decide fully what the outcome is than to have a try, even if your not at the best outcome. Its worked very well with American football, why can't we have that sort of system?

If any of you actually watched the Final Word with Andy Gray and co, I have to agree with them. No way should he have sent Mascherano off "dissent". That was the most cavalier ref performance I have seen this season. There was not a card incident in the game, yet there were loads.
If Bennett can't handle a few questions from players, maybe he shouldn't be a ref. He ruined what was an end to end game and one that was enjoyable (even if we were losing)!!

Not entirely, yes Mascherano maybe didn't go over the top but he had no reason at all to be there, he had loads of warnings after his first booking. Why was it only him that went after the referee? there was no need, hes not catain, its not his job one bit to do that.
And its hardly unknown that Andy Gray has a thing against Man Utd, any match he is the commentator its always biased towards the other team.
I agree Mascherano had no reason to be there, but how many times does that happen? Every fucking game!! And do they get booked? Rarely no and especially no if they already have a yellow card to their name. So why start getting the cards out now? Because he got the Torres decision wrong and he couldn't take the criticism!

Because he had been doing this for the whole game, he kept giving away free kicks he was lucky to not get booked for. And its hardly suprising he got booked after what happened, he was showing no respect to the referee whe he did that and his reaction just showed how he was after he got the red card. I mean Rio shouldn't have got booked, the whistle blew and a second later he kicked the ball away, he can't suddenly stop his foot.
It was definitely a poor performance by the ref that boiled down to that one point with Mascherano. You say he should have got sent off prior? lol Were you watching the same game? His original yellow was not even a yellow imo, he was a little late, but committed and hardly any contact was made and THAT was his first challenge. What do you expect at Old Trafford?

Webb your being so biased here, just like I would be if it was Utd we were talking about. Mascherano's first challenge was definitely a yellow; two feet off the ground, dived in, took the player and not the ball... Now the second yellow, I completely agree with Mr.Redknapp and disagree with Andy "i hate man utd" Gray. Macherano was in the ref's ear constantly the whole game, when he has no right to be, AND ran at least 20 yards past other Liverpool player's to have another go. Constantly bickering at the ref gives you a yellow card, simple as. I'm glad ref's are finnaly clamping down on it, and what a time to start :D We were comfortable at 1-0 anyway ;)
And by the way, 5 points clear :drunk

I never said he should have got sent off prior, re-read my post, all I said is that he was doing things that led up to it. But he should have deffinitely got booked for the first challenge, his studs were up which pretty much says it all, another Eduardo could happe at any time if people slide in liek that and they need to stamp that out of the game full stop.
Bax man, you're the most biased kid on these forums, so don't start that shit.
The simple fact is that Mascherano is being made pay for Ashely Cole's disgraceful actions mid-week, simple as. If you think that sort of thing has never gone on in a football match, then you've obviously never played football at a competitive level.
Man Utd are ALWAYS the worst team when it goes to crowding a ref, do they ever get carded? Do they fuck! What about the tirade that the Man Utd player kicked up with the ref? Exactly, miss the key points once again!

So you're telling me fully 100% hand on heart if that was Ronaldo you would say its Bullshit? You are biased, so is Bax i agree, but you seem to think he did nothing wrong at all, but then again you were saying he shouldn't have. Im sorry but you have no idea what he said, unless you are Steve Bennet. And its obvious to see if he runs 20 metres up the pitch and wrestles away from Alonso hes gone up to say something.
Hand on heart man, I have never seen anyone sent off for a second yellow for dissent like that, in that manner. Crazy. Yes he was stupid to run over but by no means was it a yellow.

I admitted I'm biast in my post... And I completely agree with you, Macherano being punished is because off Ashley Cole's actions the other day. It's called setting an example, and unfortunately for you, it was on Mascherano. At least now hopefully crowding the ref will stop, with players now seeing punishment will be dealt.

Here is my take on Mascherano:
OK first yellow was a definite yellow, though I can recall many times where players have got away with it. But I think there was no problem there.
The second yellow might have been a bit harsh, but as you can see Mascherano was getting a bit in-the-face with the ref and personally I would have given him a straight yellow card for that, but if the ref was to give a yellow for that then he should have given it to the other players as well for when they got in-his-face. Overall however decisions really didnt affect this game as much as the Arsenal v Chelsea one.

And by the way, 5 points clear :drunk Lool Andy Gray is a stupid tw*t when it comes to football commentry / punditting. It was funny how he was arguing with Redknapp in the studio, then miraculously vanished 10 seconds later.. possibly to take up his commentary spot :p
However Mascherano had it coming, Benitez knew it as much as anybody.
IMO webb has every right to be angry, as i would be angry had one of our players been sent off for perhaps maybe an "exaggerated" case of dissent.. but at the end of the day it's Mascherano's fault and he should be benched for the rest of the season :p I've never liked Mascherano since he asked for a "permanent" contract at the club after a few games.. to me it sounds like he's a little immature for a big club like Liverpool.

man U takes Liverpool
with a controversial first yellow card to macherano following the ashley cole incident.
3-0
Macherano perhaps didnt deserve the first 1, dont forget it was the first 10 minutes, and half way into the challenge he himself realized he screwed up and even put his put and soles on the grass, but scholes stood his ground, if the ashley cole thing hadnt happened, the ref would have waved it off and played the advantage.
i've seen MUCH more tackles been waved off cuz the ref doesnt want to give out cards

Its about time they got relegated, terrible team. They've only got two good players; Roy Carroll who's only just joined them, and Giles Barnes but he's been out most of the season. If they had those two from that, it could have been a different story.

Middlesborough and United... Hmmmm, Boro ARE Man U's bogey team after all... But despite my instincts suggesting 1-1, I would say 2-1 Man U. Tuncay, Ronaldo and Tevez to score.

Bad result for United (?) For me Wes Brown wasnt as strong as he usually is, and Alfonso Alves used that to his advantage. Good build up play got united in the lead but 2 great goals from Alves allowed them get up a head of steam taking full advantage of Fergusons poor tactics; substituting Tevez for Park IMO was a bad substitution when Tevez was one of the only battling players on the field- i would've taken Giggs off for Park.
All credit to Boro for battling and not letting united play the way they want to, even with the amount of injuries i would've expected more from Fergie. Let's just hope we can beat Arsenal next week! If Arsenal beat United next week, it's a 3 horse race definitely.
