Synthesis is a huge part of filling the Collector's Book up. Many of these items can also be found in the various search points located around the world as well, so check all of those from time to time. These appear as piles of bones or dead tree stumps, or on the water they will be schools of fish or circling seagulls. Many things can also be found from the chip machines in the Nam Cobanda gym, especially the various star gems.

To increase the chances of a drop from enemies, first get yourself the Hunter's Monocle item (can be synthesized with one each Rainbow Lens, Cockatrice Beak, Light Star Gem and Cheagle Fur), then use the "Rita Grade Farming" strategy to get a fatal strike chain of 6+ and then execute the enemies with fatal strikes. This almost guarantees they will drop everything possible. If what you are looking for drops from a boss, do not sell it! If you need more than one, chances are you will be able to get it from the "memory" version in the extra dungeon on your second playthrough. Speaking of a second playthrough, you can buy a perk that will double item drop rates from the grade shop and that helps a ton with these.

Once you know the item you need and what enemy drops it, check this thread (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=90998) to find the location of the enemy. I would suggest fighting the enemy a few times to get more than you need, as that item may be used for another synthesis later on and will save some time running around the world.

Sorry that I brought up this old topic, but I actually found that the Ice Golem in the Ice Drifts can also drop Naevimetal as well. I noticed it wasn't listed for the item, so I though I'd put this out there :)
