What is a gamer? I hear alot of different thoughts about what a gamer is.
My friend for an example, said he was a gamer. But I were not convinced.
As the only thing he could play games on, were a wii. He doesn't even have a computer. But he told me he were a gamer, as he read in a magazine that if you try achieve evreything in games, you're a gamer.
But meh? Nothing against Wii, but the gamer title sounds abit to hardcore for Zack & Wiki and Boom Blox.
I call myself a nerd, and I'm more hardcore when it comes to game than him.
Someone I could be fine with calling a gamer, is people who play for a living. For fame and money, in tournaments and such.
What is a gamer to you?

to me a gamer can be anyone who enjoys games of any type on any console, skill and dedication isnt really an issue to me.
as long as you enjoy playing games, to me that is a gamer.

Historically, the term "gamer" usually referred to someone who played role-playing games or wargames. More recently, however, the term has grown to include players of video games. While the term nominally includes those who do not necessarily consider themselves to be gamers (i.e., casual gamers)[1], it is commonly used to identify those who spend much of their leisure time playing or learning about games.
I would have to go with Wikipedia on this one, that is exactly how I define a Gamer.

Dang, that makes me more than a casual gamer by definition. So does that make me specialist since I'm familiar with all systems to include PC and handheld games? ^_^

I would say that it is somebody who enjoys it, spends a reasonable amount time playing and gets excited about upcoming games. But more importantly if you are putting the title on yourself then that means that you are a gamer at heart.

Surely a gamer is just someone who plays videogames? Anyway, here's my opinion:
Your friend is a gamer - just because he has a Wii and nothing else doesn't make him any less of a gamer. That's just stupid.
Plus, as I hear it, Zack & Wiki is one of the more involving, less casual games for the Wii. (Cue jokes about that being 'the best the Wii can offer...)
Don't hate on the Wii and treat it as if it doesn't deserve the title of 'console' just because it's managed to be ridiculously successful and attract such a mainstream audience. If you want to hate on something, hate on all the crappy developers that jumped on the bandwagon and produced compilation after compilation of rubbish mini-games!
Plus, the comment about 'he doesn't even have a computer' seems a bit daft in my mind. When you speak of gamers and videogames, what comes to mind most naturally is consoles and the arcade. ie dedicated video game machines. Not computers. PC gaming is the least prominant of all gaming in my mind, so if you assume the Wii is not a gamers machine for whatever reason, then you might as well assume the same for the PC.
Anyway, that's my very long opinion - to sum up, a gamer is just someone who plays videogames. Nothing more, nothing less.
