I clean at my college, hour and half a day, monday to friday, £6 an hour...
That's a job i'm keeping for the next year 'til i finish my a levels.

I've recently handed in CVs for another cleaning job (key job, so i can do it anytime after 5.30pm!), and one for putting together boxes from flatpacks at some place they cremate animals :| aha!

how about all you?

No job over here, I'm 16 and I'm gonna enjoy my summer. But I will get a job at Gamestop in the coming months as my local Gamestop is hiring. But as of right now no job, and loving it. :D

I work for a hospital my Mom owns in Neptune NJ. I work at receiving 3 days a week and I make about $10.60 an hour. That's pretty good for a 16-17 year old.

I'm working at the Library, each Saturday. Its around £7.53 and hour for 7 hours, and I'm waiting on two pay rises. With that It means I get £2.9 a year <3

I have looked everywhere for a job and when I apply for one someone has gotten the job. It's a complete joke tbh (Y). But does anyone in the UK know where a 16 year old could work?

Try; Tesco or M&S, some of the big supermarkets. Also try out Gamestation or Game, or even HMV...Just places like that.

But big money is working for the council :p

I've been working for my uncle, picking up bodies at hospitals/retirement homes and transporting them to funeral homes. Driving the ol' Meatwagon!

Didn't think any game shops would take on under 18s. On account of having to sell 18 rated stuff to people.

Unless the big stores (like Game/Gamestation) hire 16/17 year olds as general shop floor dogsbodies....
Suppose they can pay 'em less then too....

I remember applying for a job at Co-op once when I was 16. The Manager was reluctant to give me a job because I'd have to call him or someone else over every time somebody wanted to buy alcohol. That would have been a right pain in the ass for both me and him. I'd imagine the same would apply to games.

Yeah, I'm preety sure you have to be 18. I know for a fact that you do in HMV because i tried applying a few years back.

I'm stuck in my same shitty office job. 35 hours a week. Not good. I'm only full time until uni starts again in the end of septmeber so it isnt too bad.

I'm at work right now. It's always slow, so I'm almost getting paid to sit around and post on forums, read email, and sell and buy things on eBay.

kind of pointless to get one now, summer's over in like 2 weeks. i prefer to have a job during the school year, i had one around christmas time and it was pretty awesome.

Summer holidays start next week here, well they've started for me 'cause i'm at college :)
i work all year round cleaning at my college, but only people at the college can clean, and i put my name on the list about 4months before i even started college, so i got it straight away.. get about £170 a month, so about £42.50 a week... Not too bad, but I end up spending £150 of it in a week, topping up my mobile, buy art stuff for college, ink for my printer, birthdays and all the usual.

The other cleaning job I applied for rang me and said they're having interviews at the end of week (i.e. yesterday and today), they said they'd ring me within the next few days but unfortunately they can't offer me a place, in other words they hired a polish woman for £4/h because its cheaper than paying me £7/h :(
haven't heard anything back from this boxmaking job yet though haha!

it'd be good if i can get a job maybe a few days a week just for the 6week summer holidays, that'd bring in a bit more cash that'll last me for the summer, but no one wants to hire people when they know they're gonna have their notice in 4/5weeks later.. :(

Working for Intel as a programmer, since April, until the end of September. Work placement for college. Not a big fan of the job. And I don't get a cash bonus since I haven't been there since January, which is a shame since it works out at nearly two weeks pay.

JOBS ARE LAME.

Yes, they do hire 16s, as I sent in my CV to them, and they were advertising it in their window to all ages :|

well, I've turned in applications to a lot of places, but none of which have called me back yet. I think its because of the fact that i'm 17 :\ but oh well, as my mom once said

"Trust me, once you get out of college, all your going to be doing is work until you die, so you might as well not work and have fun for now."

Thats one thing shes right about :)

Well I am 18, and I can't find one. Most of the places I apply to are looking for people with work experience.

Well I used to work in an indie game store and we couldn't hire anyone under 18.

I was pretty sure that Gamestation was the same, I went for an interview at one once (got the job too, but then was offered something else!) and I'm sure the manager at that branch told me they wouldn't hire under 18's...

Although I don't know about Game - they're all about the lame-o customer service (ie the 'I have amazing customer skills but know nothing about gaming at all' mentality) so they probably hire absolutely anyone! :p

Which ones did you see advertising to all ages? Both of these?
We used to get a ton of 16-17 year old application forms back at my old job, and they all went straight in the bin because we couldn't do anything with them.

Ah damn, i hate that. All the decent jobs (graphic design etc - what i want to go in to when i finish college), all say you need experience in the industry.. Not once have i found a job where it doesn't say that. How the heck am i meant to get experience if no one takes you on in the same place.. I agree, jobs are lame..

I just want a job, where they hand me a check and I spend a few hours doing what they want me to do. That's about it.

I'm 14 so I don't really know anywhere that would employ me for a summer job. Don't really need one at the moment because I have a fair bit of money. Also, my Mum won't make me get a job for another 2 summers because thats when I'll be sixteen.

Just wondering, would all the big stores only take you if you're over 16?

Most probably, yeah.
If you're in the UK, you gotta be 16 to sell 18 dvds, games and alcohol. And even then, with alcohol, you gotta get someone over 18 who works there to check their ID. With dvds and games, you usually get away with it if you're 16. Maybe some shops that don't sell 18 rated items and/or alcohol might hire you? You just gotta ask around I guess..
