X360A Mafia - Villagers Wins Game 1

Mafia is a game that many have played, yet I only learned of it last week, the day before I started playing. This thing is a blast and I'm going to moderate a game for the board nuts here.

If you've never played this game, which can best be described as a party game, then there's an awesome flash video that explains everything beautifully and will even run through a sample game for you.

In case you can't view the flash, I'll give you the quick and dirty:

The game has the setting of a town where the mafia has infiltrated. In our particular town, there will be 16 villagers and 4 of them will be mafia. Who?

That's the point of the entire game. I will notify all players as to what their roles will be, and I will determine that by a completely random method.

Since everyone is playing as a villager, everyone will post in the thread, trying to form alliances or sway votes towards whoever they want to kill. This will happen during the day phase of the game, and the leading vote getter will be killed off.

At night, the mafia members will secretly convene and kill one villager of their choosing. Sometimes, it's smart for them to turn on one of their own if it will ensure one or more of the rest go far...

Now, in this game, there will also be 3 special roles, all of which are on the side of the villagers.

Vigilante - This player will have the opportunity to kill any member he/she wishes once every day. His vote will be sent to me by the end of the day phase and the kill will be revealed at the same time as the mafia vote.

Detective - This player will be able to discover the role of one other player every night. This will include any special role that player might have.

Guardian - This player will be able to protect a person from a kill vote once every day. They may choose to use it on him/herself when the game starts out, but if he can discover the other special players, he can be pretty powerful.

The meat of all villager discussion will be done in the thread. Mafia discussion will be done in the Mafia group board, which is eyes only. PMs are encouraged between players as a lot of alliances are formed this way. Then again, a lot of trickery from the mafia goes on as well...

I will notify each player with their roles and instructions in private.

EVERYONE must participate daily. If any person does not vote for 2 consecutive days, a meteor will kill their character. Also, when a player dies, their posts are limited to color commentary and must be in italics. Any PMs from a ghost to other players are forbidden and will be watched.

All villager votes must be cast in the thread, and in this specific way:

Retractions will be allowed as often as you want, and must look like this:

I will say this once and once only: EDITING OF ANY POSTS IN WHICH YOU EITHER CAST OR RETRACT A VOTE WILL RESULT IN DISMISSAL OF YOUR VOTE ALTOGETHER AND 2 VOTES ADDED TO YOU IN THE VILLAGER TALLY. Because of this, it would be wise to leave all your chitchat out of posts in which you vote/retract because editing other text is allowed. Screenshots of the original, identical-before-editing votes will not save you. The point of the thread is for everyone to be able to see what's going on, and editing votes kills the fun for everyone. I've personally witnessed this in the game I'm still playing on a different forum.

Timeframe: Although the starting day will be determined by the time it takes to get 16 players, the schedule will be as such: The day phase will start at 8 PM Pacific, 11 PM Eastern, and 4 AM Greenwich. No, that's not really during the day, but it's when I can come and update the game. The night phase will last no more than 2 hours, beginning at 6PST/9EST/2GMT. Although the mafia may make decisions during the day, the night phase is theirs for determining their vote.

I will moderate the game in both the thread and mafia board. I will answer questions pertaining to playing the game, but will not help at all in your sleuthing.

Alright, I'm pretty sure that's it. Staff are free to play; I'm unsure about the mods because I don't know if they can view the mafia group. However, I know all the mods in some way and trust them all to play the game for fun, staying within the rules.

That's the crux of the game: The leading vote getter (or vote getters, if there's a tie) DO get lynched, so all villagers need to be very careful as to who they vote for.

Day 1 began in the village with a town meeting. There had been screams last night, and when the villagers stirred in the very early hours of the morning, they found the body of their beloved leader, RoutineX, stabbed in 142 spots. It was Blind x360a who counted all of these, as the knowledge that he was dead was enough for the rest of the village. They didn't care when he told them the count, and he hung his head back to his cabin to finish the night as best he could. Only he cared about his attention to detail, and he hoped to dream of Sudoku and Sherlock Holmes if he fell asleep.

At the meeting, held at an empty wagon perpetually left in the middle of the village, Blind got up too speak of the rumors of mafia, rumors that had been going around for a week and were confirmed with last night's murder. As he began to speak, Bondfan626 farted very, very loudly.

Blind dropped his arms, furious, and pointed at Bond, screaming, "Fuck it, he's probably one of them. Who would fart at a time like this? Are you that relaxed in spite of what's happened?"

Others started after Bond too, but after a quick apology and revealing that he shouldn't have had cereal this morning when he's lactose intolerant, the townspeople started to let off.

However, before getting back to the speech, Krueger spoke up: "I'm mafia."

The others looked at him, astonished. A couple of people said something along the lines of, "Wha-?" but they were met with a repeated response: "I'm mafia."

The crowd was stunned. They silently walked over towards him, eyes red with anger, and Krueger started to try to distance himself. Then, all of a sudden, Kiwi screamed,

“Bondfan’s hiding something! Look! He’s not trying to get Krueger with us, he’s just standing there with his hands behind his back! What are you hiding? A knife? Show us!”

The whole crowd turned to look at Bondfan, who was stunned. He denied, but when the crowd started to advance in his direction, he said, “OK, OK, I’ll show you.” He turned to show that he was holding his buttcheeks together with both hands.

“I… I just didn’t want to fart again. I’m really, really sad that he died, but this gas… It’s horrible!”

Someone screamed bloody murder. The crowd turned to see GameFreak47 laying motionless on the ground, the victim of a… Well, there was a Joker card from a playing card deck sticking out of his neck.

“Who?”
“Sweet Korix!”
“Who did this!”
“Who has cards?”
“Who would kill GameFreak?”
“Where are my pants?”

The last one was ignored, and the townspeople started to search GameFreak’s body. After someone took off his shirt, they found an Italian horn tattoo on his chest. Also, tucked into his boxers was a small, 2-inch knife.

“He was one of them! It’s true! The mafia are here!” someone screamed.

They looked at Krueger, who pulled up his shirt. Nothing.

Everyone, tired from the ordeal and minds running with the events, slowly went off one by one to their cabins or started their work.

That night, when everyone was in bed, several were awoken by the sound of a loud crash followed by, “NO!, NO!, NOT ME! NOO---“

Those who awoke ran outside and looked in the direction of the screams, and saw Kiwi’s door on the floor. They ran inside to find him stabbed 3 times with 3 different sized knives; once in the throat, once in the heart, and once in his left pinky.

The fact that one of the mafia may be a retard didn’t shake them from their fear that, even though one had died by the hand of a silent assassin, there were still 3 more left.

There was a note on his nightstand, and it read:

You have killed one of our own.
We were going to play nice and take you out slowly,
but now one of you will die every night as long as the last of us has breath.
