I KNOW IT'S OLD GET OVER IT

So there is this thread in the Gears of War section (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47128)
That talks about how when you glitch or game save you get your gamerscore reset to zero. So many thought this was fake so I wanted to clear this up for all for you guys...

Here is what I posted in that section...

Ouch. A small number of accounts are being reset for tampering with gamesaves and Achievements. Larry Hryb explains in a blog post (http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/03/25/gamerscore-correction.aspx) what his team is doing to the accounts of the most serious offenders:

Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account to zero
The account will be unable to regain all previously obtained achievements and Gamerscore, however, the players will have the ability to gain future Achievements by earning them fairly, like the majority of the Xbox LIVE community does.
The account will be clearly labeled as a cheater for the community to view on xbox.com, see below for a screenshot. In dash, the personal view of the gamercard will be labeled too.

We've been told that the accounts in this case are using a variety of means outside the actual playing of the game or by using external tools to increase their score, and gaining achievements under impossible conditions, which is in violation of the Terms of Use.
The vast majority of Xbox LIVE members play games legitimately to earn Achievements and are unaffected by this. Anyone who plays inside the actual game to get Achievements does not fall into the category we are taking action on.
A small number of accounts is bolded because people were saying "Well I have never seen this so it has to be fake..."

So here are some links for you guys....

From Major Nelson himself: http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/...orrection.aspx (http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/03/25/gamerscore-correction.aspx)

An example of a cheaters gamercard: http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/p...cheatermccheat (http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=cheatermccheat)

And on Xbox.com: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/sy...recheating.htm (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/gamerprofile/gamerscorecheating.htm)

Just wanted to let everyone know that this is indeed real...

Thank you for your time and don't glitch achievements...

Well it's a good reminder at least. Here is a link to a site tracking these guys. MS seems to do the resets in waves, so those doing the glitch may not know until way later.

The thing is, this doesn't appeal specificly to GoW. The thread in the GoW forum was basicly saying that if you did the glitch you would you automaticly have you GS reset, which is false or fake. If someone just did that and nothing else in the way of gamesaving and hacking (which is what MS is truely going after) they would not have thier GS reset.

Resetting people is useless. First someone has to call them out, second they have to have more than 50k gamesaved on their profile, third they have to admit they gamesave. It's cool they want to make sure before they reset everyone but it's hardly worth their effort. These resources could have gone into the spring update instead.

So if I was a gamesaver and denied it, you're saying I'd be safe? LOL. C'mon now.

Resetting isn't useless as any deterrent that'll make some kid think twice about ruining it for the rest is useful.

Those articles were discussed at length here as soon as they hit the internet. "Search option". Just because there are other members on the site who didn't keep up with it when it happened doesn't mean you should dig it back out and post a new thread about it, or else that'd probably keep happening every few months.

Also, it is only for game saving... not glitching. Glitches are possible because there is something already in the code of the game that doesn't prevent the glitch from occuring, i.e. it technically is the developers fault, although glitchers obviously are exploiting the problem. Your game can glitch without you knowing it'll happen (like lots of people in GH3) so MS knows that glitching can't be a reason you reset to 0.
