i recently made an american account to get access to all the tv shows that they have on there marketplace but i was wondering a few things:

can i buy microsoft points in the UK from a shop and put the code into the american account.
if i download any content for games can it be used for any gamertag or just the one i download it on.

1. From my understanding, each code is regionally locked. In other words, points bought in the UK only work on a UK account, US points only work on US accounts. Don't quote me on that though.

2. The way it works is, if you download something it is available to all accounts on that 360. Should for some reason you use another 360, the content would only work for the account that downloaded it.

Say you bought an Arcade game on your American account. Everyone would be able to use it on that console no problem. Should anything happen to that console(breaks, RRoD)and you have to send it in, when you get your new 360, you won't be able to freely use everything. So the content on your American account would only be available to your American account. Themes, Gamerpics, and Videos can be used by any account no matter what happens though.

Hope that helps you.

I got another question related to having an american account. Can i use a credit card from any country ( as in Europe ) to use with that account ( so i could buy my live gold and msp like that ). Live and msp are much cheaper for an american account.

As we're on the subject of american accounts in the uk, how do you actually set one up? ive been interested in this for a while but thought it was frowned upon by microsoft.

Points are regionally locked and so is Live and wont work. As for the credit card idea it might work. Call MS and ask.

The best way to make a us account is to make a new email address with a USA as the country.(If you are allowed to and are not violating any Service Agreement and Privacy Statement) If that statement violates anything on this site please edit. Sign up for Live using that new email address and you will have a US Account.

it doesn't matter, you can create an account from any region regardless of where you are, but location-specific content will not be accessible coz Live reads your IP.

i am very much against this policy since i move around a lot - pressure MS to make Live truly global!

They could at least make Live and MSP cost the same around the globe ( when you're buying with a credit card )

I bought AMERICAN POINTS and i have an ENGLISH account and i used the code and it worked.

Not true. I'm in Canada (with a Canadian ISP with a Canadian IP) and have a US account and Canadian account on my 360.

I have done this before and I can tell you that if you created an American e-mail address and use that e-mail address to create an XBOX LIVE account you can access the American marketplace fine and points cards work too because I created one to gain access to the family guy/south park pics since I live in Europe and it worked fine.

did you try the video marketplace? that's the one they seem to protect the most. having an account isn't enough in itself. hey maybe they loosened up a bit, i haven't checked in a while, didn't have to.

I just set up an american account with no problems at all but as Neoadorable said the video marketplace is a problem cos for some reason i cant download from there. Does anybody know a way round this? I really really want to see the new family guy episodes on there lol. :)

i don't think there's a way around it, it's your IP address and they specifically said they will do this blockage thing. everytime i'm out of the US this is a problem, and i get billed in the US. that's why i would love MS to make everything global - if some content provider doesn't want int'l distribution, don't post their stuff etc.

oh well, if only these were life's only problems...
