UPDATE: We've switched to having contest entries go by e-mail instead of on the forum, so the below is only partly true. I'll leave this post so you still have an understanding of how the process works.
Lately I've been getting a few PMs asking how we choose winners for our contests. So I figured I'd just make a post so everyone knows.
First of all, this post only applies to contests that are decided randomly.
Now, lets look at a contest, lets say the The Darkness Giveaway (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=71478).
The first thing I do is look at the total numbers of entries in the contest, for The Darkness, there were 930 entries.
Next I go to a random integer generator, I use this one: http://www.random.org/integers/.
In the first field, the amount of integers I want generated, I enter the amount of prizes we have for the contest. For The Darkness, we had one copy of the game to give away so I simply entered 1.
In the second and third field I enter the fields of integers I want chosen, I always enter 2 for the beginning as I'm the first post, and I can't win. For the third field, I enter the total number of entries, that's where the number I got earlier comes into play.
So now we're set up to generate 1 integer between 2 and 931. I next simply click Get Numbers, then find that post number in the contest thread. Viola! A winner!
