Getting Zs on Story mode and breezing through Trial modes

Until a FAQ or a complete Achievement guide comes up, just some quick tips I used to Z everything on Normal (no way I am playing this on Very Hard) and to help you beat the 3 Trial modes :

- Trial modes : One simple advice, use Vegeta with Final flash Level 3. I am not saying it is the best character or it isn't doable with another one, it obviously is, but he is definitely the easiest. Whereas a Kid Gohan is really good but has a crappy low level attack (level 5 takes too long to charge up), Vegeta's Final flash rules big time. 3 bars is very small, it fills very fast, and this attack has no delay and impacts a big area. You can't miss with it. :)

Also, for the tough fights (the 3 consecutive Friezas), always do the XXX+YYY combo to start the fight, maybe with a gut punch, and when you have your first bar, immediately transform ONCE, not twice. Vegeta's first form is enough, and its power gauge fills faster that way. And it is one more Final flash than if you transform twice. On transformation 1, Vegeta's Final flash eats like 120% of your adversary's life bar, so do the math : XXX+YYY 3 or 4 times, 1 transformation, 2 Final flashes, done.

One more advice : against Frieza or Gohan type characters (extremely fast and deadly on CQC), once you are transformed, stay away, fire small bursts of A attacks to keep your opponent from closing in on you, and you will see your attack gauge charging in like 5 seconds. Final flash from a distance (yes, the Final flash rules even from the end of the screen), 1200 damage. Boom. Rinse and repeat.

- For the Zs on Story mode : my advice is quite simple when you know what button to push. I play ALL my chapters the same way. Open with a first strike. If you don't get it, reload you chapter. Trust me, one more star on the last Cell levels makes the difference between an S and a Z when you're playing as Broly.

If you got the first strike, build your meter by using the XXX+YYY combo, ending it with the RT+Y gut punch. When your first bar is full, and a life bar of you opponent is no more, the b@st@rd will begin charging at you and changing pace (that is why during his first bar you can just XXX+YYY combo him to build your meter, he won't move much). When your opponent strikes back, just stay there and chain all the dodge moves you can think of : Back+A once, Front+AA once to kick him in the @ss, and some Up and Down+A. Then you can use your first Aura bar and simply press LT to vanish and hit your opponent.

The rest is trickier : you have to gain a medium distance to use your Front+B once (to far, your opponent will dodge, and also if you're too close). Try to unleash it when you opponent is on the ground, and is about to stand up. Precision : if the attack is blocked, it counts, so don't worry too much about the damage done. Then, the "skill & luck" part. When your opponent is in his last bar, go away and wait until you have an Aura bar. Use it, come close and try to do the Up+Y+LT combo to send your opponent in the air and start the flying and combo sequence where you have to push A+X+Y+B. If you finish with that every time like I did, you will get your Zs and have done everything except maybe the Pursuit move and the 90 seconds, wich most of the time are impossible.

Hope it helps. When you get the routine, it will become like instinct.

PS : yes, the flying combo is a mega pain to pull against fast characters. My advice when your opponent blocks your uppercut all the time, use Up+A two times and immediately Up+Y when you're in their back. Takes some work.

A very, very good guide =] I use Vegita online, so the Final flash IS better than big bang...maybe I'll be able to finish survival now o_o

For Z's all I do is remember the following: Start with a throw, then use a heavy smash, aura spark, do the persuit rush attack, teleport, then use special attacks and try to finish with an ultimate attack

That should fill enough criteria to gain a Z, don't worry about drama pieces but if they show up then all the better :)

So far Tein seems a fan fave for spamming (his super attack is uber fast to fire) A lot of people choose Teen Gohan assuming he's the most powerful, so beating him is easy

I've seen a bit of verity online =] Not many Recoom's or Andriods, I have to laugh at the people that go Ginyu and think they're clever using the body change...that's been around since budokai 1 XD

For the trial mode,i really advise you to get Vegita and do what you said,or get Broly,his combo (LT+Y,then <--+B) do around 820 damage and also works perfectly on Survival mode. The only drawback is wenn you fight a very small character such as Lil'Gohan,or Krilin. Considering you have to win 2 rounds in every battle on Trial mode,if you succeed in lvling up Vegita,you will certainly win the match.

96/100 wins, no save feature? No way to even go back to start from 50 wins? Not EVEN a way to save progress so I can swtich the box off and take a break?

The computer's get a lot harder toward the end from 70+ I had trouble, from 95+ they were just about unbeatable

Yeah,it definitely sucks,I lost the 100th battle in Survivor (default) and just lost the 99th battle on Survivor (custom)...a wonderful waste of time,about 5 hours. If you take too much time to win the battle,you only regenerate a poor amount of health;but you get totally raped after the 97th battle and winning is a miracle.Things get worse and worse,as you need 80 seconds to defeat your opponent near the end,and heal is ridiculous. I guess you need to be lucky as hell to complete the 100 battles,its not only about skills,drama pieces can really change the result in the wrong way, and you need easily 2 hours to go over the 90th battle. I'll wait until some1 find a trick,or a godly combo because Im sure Im gonna break the controller next time I fail in the money time...

Totally agree, every time I land the finishing blow in comes a drama piece, can we not just turn the damn things off? They really get in the way of gameplay..

Unfortunately, you can't. I have been looking for the options but I guess there is no way to turn off drama pieces. Most of the time,it never helps you,especially wenn you re running out of health,the damn "Senzu bean" drama pieces apparition seems to be random;but wenn you re going to end the battle with a final attack,a drama piece saves the opponent,increasing his health or allowing him to avoid your attack and even damage you sometimes. This becomes terribly unfair and annoying in the last 15 battles. Gosh,no checkpoint,if you lose,you become crazy and realize you did a wonderful 2hours-playthrough for nothing....

I like achievements, but if a game frustrates you, like DMD mode in Devil May Cry 4 for me, just play another game. That is why I love games like Mass Effect : the game is not perfect, but is perfectly balanced, you know what I mean ?

Then keep using your --> B that's a really kick-ass move, and unleash your ultimate whenever you get it, if you can, finish him off with an ultimate

Remember to try to teleport dodge

That's probably the hardest chapter out of the game...maybe...that or broly...

all I can give are the previous tips, remember to transform into Kaioken as soon as possible (right bumper when kai gauge is full) lots of throws, and keep using aura spark, keep doing the rush attack, that does about 1000 damage and you can do it 2 or 3 times per aura spark

The Spirit bomb really sucks, and rarely hits (if Frieza taunts then throw throw throw! XD)

It took me ages to clear that fight though, it is tough! Everything after that at least seems a little easier =]

You don't need to worry about fighting cheaply, if you don't then the computer will (I've just had vegeta fire off 12 special moves at me in the space of about 40 seconds ><)

Actually isn't. I've had about 8 fights online(Won all :P, big head) but only one Vegeta. People have even chosen Brolly.. o.0, and the people I go up against are weird and pick Cell.

Piccolo wins online though.

Gohan is so annoying. I tried survival today and got onto lvl. 90 with Vegeta but then comes midget boy Gohan with his "full power!" screaming and his "over here!" spammage as well lol.

Still its quite funny whenever Frieza comes up i always have a big relief. I don't know about you guys but i nearly always get a perfect against him on the trials. Still, that's 200Gs i won't be getting for this game..

I only got to 68 on my first attempt at the survival trial....and I always liked it when Broly came up, simply because most of the time he just seemed to stride around really slowly without blocking.

I usually start the round with a grab then a couple of heavy smashes right after one another after that he just hits my giant ass body like a punch bag and detroys me. Brolys ultimate move sucks cock and he gets fatigued really easily. i just cant beat him. Lame.

I ve jsut done it on Z difficulty to check what is the best strategy. Wenn he keeps beating in CQC and hold A to protect until he makes a break;then,I use the combo,Y + RT and <-- + B,to make around 820 damage. Dont waste your Ki gauge with ultimate attack,it never works and sucks.He becomes dangerous and kinda unstoppable wenn he uses his Aura burst,so fly away and wait until he calms down or do the same and try to send him into the air (LB + LT very quickly). I noticed he blcoks almost every attacks near the end,so wait for him and wenn he s near you,hold RT and press B to do the final damage.i did twice in a row and it works like a charm. Avoid using special attack,you will miss most of the times and he will warp in your back and kick your ass.Hope it can help.

Well guys, I only played the game on Normal, but let me tell you the best strategy, at least on Normal, to get a Z and kick Krillin and Gohan's asses : Do everything Rayne and I told you to do in the first 60 seconds, even if your Super Attacks are blocked, and then when the little snots keep on blocking, just grab them indefinitely with RB. Works best in the air, but seriously, I won those matches by grabbing them like 25 times, true story :) Try it, even better if you're not going for Z.

Can anyone help me? I completed the Frieza saga on normal. With a Z award in every fight and I got no Frieza Z award achievement. I looked at my stats and it said I have only done 80% of the fights, but how can this be when I have done all 16 chapters and unlocked the Cell saga? Does anyone know why this has happened?

I fluked the Broly vs Gohan fight, I used about 20 heavy smashes in a row!

I'd heavy smash (about 600 damage?) then do the back B attack, he'd use his Ki to block it, I'd repeat the heavy smash

As Gohan always used his ki to block, he couldn't teleport or transform, lucky huh? =]

To the guy above me, keep playing through and don't worry, you'll unlock the achievements by playing through, you go back to the Frieza saga later on in the game

Like Rayne said, after finishing off Cell, you will get Bardock in Frieza Saga and then Broly in Cell Saga, their respective mini-what-ifs storyline.
