This has probably been brought up before. I searched for helpful button and didnt get any answers. So.

You have probably seen on many websites, to name one: Fandango.

'Was this review useful to you? Yes/No'

Now if we had these under each post someone makes, it could cut down on spam. If someone comes in to make a good post, people agree, they click yes. If it was a post like 'thank you' 'great guide' which are not really useful to the topic, you would get a no.

It would look like this:

http://www.indeed.com/forum/job/art-director/05390c183c137e18767d4501

There is a great example of what I mean by the helpful comment button.

Now I know some are going to say that it would be friends say yes for friends, enemies say no for enemies. But what harm is done by clicking a yes and no? It could really help make it easier on mods too. If you get enough no's in one thread then it becomes a 'spam thread'. Spam threads already get locked, but say a certain number of nos are made in a thread, the mods get an email about it. They check it out and see if it is spam or not.

It already seems that the 'Rate a thread' is mainly used for people who want their guides to stand out, so why not have 'rate a post'.

If it gets shot down, oh well just a thought.

How about, if it was anything but helpful, just report it for spam?

You answered your own question when you mentioned what I like to call the "douchebag" factor. If say our friend Bax here was in a bad mood, he could make a fake second account and rate every single thread on the forum a "no" and royally mess things up.

As with all these types of things (many different variations have been suggested before), we can not police it without making a lot more work for ourselves, nor can we guard against people just voting like you said for friends or enemies.

Is he not on about the reviews that are posted on the main page?
Like if someone personally thinks the review will help them make a decision they will click yes/no depending on what they think.
Also, brings me to my old suggestion of reporting spam in the news section! :p
