I was wondering if anyone could shine some light on how the HELL this is done. I can make it to the part where you have to destroy the cannon but die like 2-3 times before I even can get up close to the damn thing. I dont care about the hero objective I just want to beat the freaking mission. Is there a way to do this beside half luck and half prayer?? Its really gonna suck to get this far and not get 1000/1000 on it.:( I have till tomorrow night to beat it. Any advice would be great thanks!

Here's what I did...

After doing the first run-around to get the conduits, I did another sweep around the outer circle (CAREFULLY, of course... stupid gunships and battlesuits ), making sure everything was gone.

Then, approach the island in the center at an altitude just above the water following one of the pipelines, taking out gunships and battlesuits as you approach. When you hit the island, on the sides, there's a spot where a pipleline starts to go up the side of the island. This is your spot. From this point, you should be able to hover up slightly to barely be able to get a missle volley and a couple repulsor pops at the yellow-circle cannon, and then duck back down. Ignore the tanks and SAMs and AA guns, as you shouldn't see them, and they shouldn't have LOF to you. You'll avoid drawing fire from MOST of the land troops on the island this way.

The only danger you'll really need to worry about is the constantly spawning fliers. I found that I'd end up with a battlesuit coming over the ridge zapping me about every 20 seconds, so the trick is to keep your suit set to "life support", and kill the flying bastard as quickly as you can. The gunships will come far less often, but must also be dealt with quickly.

The reason I say to stick by the pipeline is that you can duck and hide under this to recharge your health between volleys and battlesuit attacks. With some patience (DON'T get greedy on trying to land too many hits into the cannon at a time...) you'll be fine. it's not a race, and even being slow and cautious, the cannon only went off once for me, so I still got a nice hero bonus.

This is actually good practice for the duck-shoot-duck fest that comes with the Iron Monger fight at the end. ;)

Good Luck!

dude you are the man! I did it on my 1st try doing what you said and died only once(due to my own stupid fault...lol) I dont know which of the suits you used but I used the Classic Mark 1. It seemed to help when I was being raped by those stupid ass missiles to use the shield ( just in case anyone else needs help with this mission).

Happy to help!

I don't recall which suit I used... probably the mark III (for the vesper missiles) or the classic mark I (I usually avoided this on missions with tons of fliers, but otherwise, it's my favorite suit... best by far I found for the flying fortress mission...).

Congrats again, and good luck on the last couple levels!

Classic Mark 1 is the way to go, it can take a lot of abuse. It also has thrusters, energy shields, and heavy missals.

Thanks for your tips it helped me out :)
