i wanted to reply in the other thread but im assumig that webb locked it up, and i will completely understand if this one gets locked too but i thought that shinobi had a really good idea..

Maybe we should make it public or at least known to the subscribers how much we actually need to be able to afford a better server. I realize it isn't just the initial cost of the server but maintenance and other fees that we would need to be able to pay on a monthly basis. I'm sure if there was a funding goal, it would be easier to reach instead of waiting for more donations and subscribers.

obviously if it takes a lot of work to create something like this then its not worth it. But im fairly certain that the admin's of this site have a good idea of what it costs to not only rent a server but maintain it for lets say a year......thats where shinobi's idea comes in. Have somekind of thermometer that rises each time a donation is made and have the final goal at the top (say the cost of operating a server for a year or two years). I think that this might give some hesitant people a sense that they contributed to a worthy cause....

Great idea!
I've suggested this on other forums, I think I myself would be more inclined to donate. I think a forum like this is best off aiming for abit of money off lots of people rather than alot off a few and this would certainly encourage some people, especially the unsure.

I've seen the same sort of thing on other sites and it looks tacky in my opinion. It could also put more pressure on people to donate, which obviously the site doesn't want.

It is incredibly tacky. Plus server costs are monthly rather than annually.

To be honest, the site costs are only applicable to a very small number- like the Admins and the people that subscribe. Plus put 2 years subscriber costs on a screen and I'll cry.

Just had another thought aswell. The vast majority of people who visit the site won't give it a shit whether the monthly fees have been met or not, most either browse and don't sign up, or just make a few posts to gain help with a topic and don't return (the fools).

while you guys could make it known how much we want to bring in each month to keep the site running to its full standards without putting up the money counter and then tell us how much we are bringing in each month, so we know how much more we need to donate each month. I am currently saving so that i can put in like $300 all at once and just forget subscribing. I have been accpeted for a job and i have been here long enough that i should be donating something

Thinking about it all, I don't think theres a need to know how much money is needed each month. If people feel like giving something back to the site, then they will. Even if the requirements for that month are met, its not like the money will go into Routine's back pocket; it'll pass onto next months kitty.
