It seems everyday I get on I have to wait 30 mins before the Database Error goes away. This is happening on my iPhone to so it isnt just my computer. This has been happening since the first update at the start of the year. Any idea why I keep getting this everyday?

Same problems here (although I don't have the fancy-pants phone). My biggest concern is how many people are we turning away by being down so often?
I'm a sucker for punishment because I keep coming back, I'm not sure first time new visitors will have the same reaction.

I get that maybe once a week. It's no big deal. :P
What browser are you using?

It's been happening to me since the updates took place. Goes down a few times a day it seems like. Does it whether I'm using Firefox or IE.

The reasoning is simple: We have 81,000 members and we don't have the servers to back it up. Subscribers have gone up recently, but fact is we need a bunch more people to subscribe and donate before we can even think about upgrading or simply adding another server. With the recent boom of GTA IV, we have been overflowing with views and such so it has been good and bad for us. It's something we all have to live with, so bite your tongue until you subscribe or donate ;).

Maybe we should make it public or at least known to the subscribers how much we actually need to be able to afford a better server. I realize it isn't just the initial cost of the server but maintenance and other fees that we would need to be able to pay on a monthly basis. I'm sure if there was a funding goal, it would be easier to reach instead of waiting for more donations and subscribers.

Once I get my PayPal account up I will donate some money. Prob. about $20.

We should get like, an image of the homepage, and when shit goes down, it will redirect to the homepage. And we can make the three red rings on the image of the Xbox on the top. It would say something like, 'We're currently down, please try again soon.'

1 server = $500. Double it for 2. Thats monthly.

We'd rather not be down :p

That's a start, how close are we to that? With my luck, we are $600 short.

11 x $25 = 275
2 x $20 = 40
8 x $15 = 120
31 x $10 =310
Going by current subscribers, we're around $700.

Doesn't sound like too much, I have no idea how much we make from advertising and I doubt we ever will, but $300 doesn't sound like that much.

Of course that's not including donations. But those vary from month to month anyway.

Money from ads takes time to trickle in.
The point here isn't the money IMO. The site being down affects us all, and its something we're working on. Just people complaining bugs me lol.
The second server has been discussed for months now, and should be imminent.

So:
How many servers have we got?
How much money does it cost per month total to run this site?
How much we get from subscribers per month?
How much do we get from advertising per month?
If these questions can be answered it'll let us see how much behind we are
Peace

If you actually read previous posts, 3 of those questions are already answered and the answer for the last one is not consistant and probably not something that will be made public.

' Going by current subscribers, we're around $700.'
I presume that that is how much the site is getting minus advertising at the moment then? So we're only $300 per month short of a new server. Surely advertising must cover most of, if not all of that?
Peace

Look, I'm not saying that everybody should subscribe or donate, but to complain about the site being down you need to show some effort in keeping it up. Like Minty said, that second server is imminent, but unless somebody leaves inheritance to us, we still need help.

Not everybody on here has enough money to subscribe or donate. Some of us barely get by every month.
Now I posted this because it seems to happen to me every time I get on. I wasnt meaning to complain to much. Really I wanted to know if it was just me. Clearly it isnt. I get it now. Overloaded servers.

You can be completely ignorant to how I started the post, it doesn't really bother me. What you are saying is that because you can hardly get by, you have the right to complain. No. It sucks that people can't get by in life, but 9 times out of 9.1 it's because of a choice they made somewhere down the line. Should I have sympathy for this? Hell, who said I'm not giving up 15 bucks a month from my minimal 17 year- old paycheck? You don't see me fussing about it.
I'm glad you understand now. I never said you complained, unless somewhere you see "SengIV" mentioned, which I don't ;).
Patience is a virtue. We'll be sorted VERY soon :)
