ComingSoon.net (http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=44644) has posted the impressive box office estimates for Iron Man, which follow below:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios' Iron Man (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=7415) exceeded all expectations, earning a massive $100.75 million during its opening weekend domestically from 4,105 theaters and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, averaging $24,543 per site. Internationally, the film has also earned an incredible $96.7 million in 57 countries since it began opening Wednesday, putting its worldwide total at $201 million after just five days! The comic book adaptation, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges, was the 10th biggest opening of all-time and the fourth biggest for a superhero movie. Among nonsequels, it came in behind only the first Spider-Man, which opened with $114.8 million. As far as May openings, Iron Man (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=7415) came in at #8, just behind X-Men: The Last Stand's $102.8 million when you look at the three-day figure (not counting Thursday night). Financed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount, the movie cost about $150 million to make and $75 million to market.

Please don't take this as bashing the movie, but is there even anything else worth watching in theaters right now? They picked the perfect time to release, since I can't think of any realistic competition.

That said, I've heard great things from my friends who have seen it, so I'll probably go see it this Friday.

I kinda agree, but if I was them I'd have been scared of releasing it just a few weeks before Indiana Jones IV as I'm sure there's some people who only visit the cinema once a month. Indy will absolutely hammer them in money anyway. There's a lot of people who will go see Indy instead of Iron Man on their monthly trip.

Can't fault them for making a practical business move. Though just because something makes a lot of money doesn't mean it's any good, just look at Halo 3. In this case I at least enjoyed the movie. I don't think it was better than the first X-Men or Spiderman movies but I didn't hate it.

Same here. I'll go see any movie I want to see at any time. The most I've gone in one week, I believe, is three times. And once I pulled a double picture, with two of my friends. We saw Lady in the Water followed by Clerks 2. Well, one stayed with me for both pictures. The other one left after the first movie, as she didn't want to see Clerks 2.

Hell yeah, this movie was gret.

That's a buttload of money though. i'm just wondering, who gets this money? Do they split it up throughout the crew, or does the company that funded it(in this case, Marvel) get it for use in later movies?

I'm pretty sure actors and crew all have a guaranteed wage no matter how the film does. Actors sign a contract to do a film for a certain amount of money. I'm assuming box office goes to the studio that filmed it.

Ah, ok. Thanks. I felt stupid asking that because it seemed like it would be obvious.

Although some actors agree to a percentage as opposed to a fixed fee too. I think Keanu Reeves might have done this for the Matrix trilogy, but then he shoved a load of cash into it anyway.

It splits between all the different companies that go into making it, alot of them you'll have never heard of, nor would I. CGI firms, lighting firms, filming, Marvel it costs millions to make a film like this but I guess Marvel will be making the majority of the money!
