Ive heard lots of people complain about not being able to fly planes in this game - But think about it for a minute. Its in new york...There are lots of people who will find it funny to crash it into a high building and put it online, which will piss people off. That wont look good for GTA games in future. I also know the maps are to small for planes and there really is no point, but Im sure they also thought about what Ive thought.
Remember 9/11? We dont want to re-create that in a video game now.
Post your thoughts.

The excuse from Rockstar was that the city was too small for the planes in order to make it realistic, but avoiding any 9/11 references or memories is probably what they were trying to avoid, and really, who can blame them?

I was getting kind of annoyed at the amount of people complaining about there not being any planes, they're usually the same people who want car customization, the gym, and more hip hop radio stations.

Im not against that at all. Ive just never came across this before in any other threads, maybe people dont want to talk about it, or they didnt relise? I thought this would be fairly obvious as to why there is no planes.

I don;t think it is too small, San Andreas really isnt that big of a map not really. I just think after 9/11 will will never see planes in a GTA game again period because of what you said about crashing them into tall buildings. I mean you say it will make GTA look bad but come on, it always has a serious negative rep in the media anywas, But they have toned thigns down in certain areas I mean look at when he gets on a bike and puts on a helmet. Safety first right? I bet they put that in just to appease certain people lol.

I can understand that the map maybe to small to fly a plane... but
Its ok to help sicko peado killers?
Its ok to pick up prostitutes. have sex with them, then kill them and take there money?
Its ok to traffic drugs?
Its ok to steel cars and run over innocent people?
Its ok to shoot and blow up anyone and anything you like, just for fun?
Its ok to lure homosexuals into a online date. to then shoot them in the face in a dinner?
And so on...
Being able to fly a plane into a skyscraper in GTA is no worse than everything else you can do
The difference is you'd only be killing Niko and not 100's of plane passengers and 100's of people in the buildings

It appears you have no idea how large an effect something like this will cause worldwide. 9/11 was on the news for months if I remember correctly, recreating that in a video game for "fun" isnt normal dude.
The other shit you said happens all the time, how many times have you heard of some religious people crashing planes into buildings?
You might aswell say goodbye to GTA games as we know it.

Princess Diana was one person. 9/11 was thousands. Thousands of innocent people who were just... at work. I'm not saying Princess Diana wasn't innocent, I'm saying that a lot of deaths happen in war. But that's soldiers dying, not civilians.

Although it is in reality a game and no ones being hurt, many people who do happen to come across a video of someone who posts it online will be hurt - especially if they were related or knew someone who died in 9/11. Its a great thing theres no planes, because nothing like this will happen - Theres no reason to lose a great game over idiots posting crap they find funny.

Yeah, I agree with you. I don't bring it up, and I hate how people make sure to bring it up every time September 11th comes around. I mean.. how are you going to move on, if you celebrate it every year?
I just don't think it'd be appropriate for this game. Maybe if the game was located in some other city that wasn't supposed to be NYC. And only if they made sure to not have 2 towers of the same height right next to each other.

I think they should have let you fly planes. There's already an airport with planes, just give us the chance. As for the whole 9/11 thing, I don't think that's a valid argument. Lots of people died because of what happened that day, yes. Lots of families have also lost people from gang shootings, drugs, drunk drivers, and any other life threatening activity that you can take part in while playing GTA. If somebody would make a 9/11 reenactment video on GTA4, then I'd be pissed off at the asshole who did it, not the people who made the game.

A friend of mines parents died in 9/11 and he had to go to a shrink. He still has not gotten over it, so you guys who think you can just get over it, it is hard man. Imagine how it would feel to have your parents ripped away from you by these sick and twisted people. If you are affected by it it is much harder to get over it.

You are very ignorant. Did one of your family members or best friends die in the World Trade Center attacks? I would love to forget about it and act like it never happened. Yes, it did happen. Yes, there is nothing we can do about it. No, we should not forget about it. We should respect the families who were affected and remember those who died. I don't care what you believe, but please, be respectful to those who died and those who were affected.

In my opinion the games map is not big enough to have planes in it as you can easily get form one side of the map to the other pretty quickly in a heli-copter. And it is better for GTA games overall that they did not put planes in due to the whole 9/11 thing because Jack Thomson would have a field day trying to ruin future GTA games for that.

I disagree with the idea that GTA shouldn't have planes anymore because crashing them into tall buildings will give images of 9/11. How come its fine for film and literature to have planes flying into buildings and deal with other sensitive material, but when it comes to a video game its a big no no. Surely it should be less of an issue in GTA because its the players choice what to do whereas in films and literature everything is forced upon the viewer/reader.
Whoever chooses to crash a plane into a tall building in order for a quick laugh is as sad as they come to be honest.

Ive not seen the movie, or read anything about it. But Im sure the point in the movie was for everyone trying to save as many people possible. It will also help show people who were not there to experience it what it was acually like, and what the people went through, all the screaming and shouting for loved ones. As Ive said, thats what my thoughts on a movie Ive not seen...
But to put that into a game would just be ridiculous.

You are either an idiot or 5 years old. All the points you made are irrelevant to the subject at hand. 9/11 was a tragedy that affected millions of people accross the nation. It's way easier to offend the families of those lost in that tragedy than it is homosexuals or all the other fluff you mentioned. The stuff you mentioned aren't ok to do but it's found in every form of entertainment, from music videos to movies and so forth. So your stupid cries for planes in a game that's already jammed packed with other forms of transportation are futile. Kudos to Rockstar for showing some respect to the families of those lost on that dreadful day. And even more kudos for doing it despite knowing that stupid kids like the quoted poster would be wining incessantly about it.

He's british and wasn't here when it happened so he has no idea how tragic it was. He's obviously an insensitive, heartless child who has no understanding of the concept of "national tragedy". You can easily forget the loss of one dead person (Princess Diana), but to ask an entire nation/ world to forget about a day where thousands of innocent beings were taken away from there families is borderline inhumane. Sorry for my rants, but that day brings about some horrible memories and it hurts to see fools like him just make a mockery of it.

Hundreds of the people on the 9/11 planes were British and i'm sure their families haven't forgotten about September 11th. Don't make judgments on Britain or any other countries because of one heartless guy. 9/11 was a day in which billions of people around the world felt sympathy for the families of the people who lost their lives, not just Americans.
Also to make comments that one dead person can easily be forgotten is heartless and even worse than the other guys comments to be honest.

And once again, I didn't mean that ALL british people are heartless and can't sympathize with Americans. Far from it in fact. I understand the map being too small, having no planes in this game works out perfectly imo. But 9/11...should not be affecting video games. Hell, A LOT more people died on D-Day...do we care to show how graphic it was in video games? Nope. Let people run around laughing while people get mowed down. Or Pearl Harbor? Nope...we don't care. It's in the past. It's all BS to me. Why should I care about an event that happened in my lifetime MORE than an event that didn't, without weighing the options finding that 9/11 wasn't nearly as bad as other events this country has faced...especially other countries.
I'd love to see anyone, other than someone in direct realtion to someone that died that day, to look me in the eye and say that they actually...100% care and think about it every day. Bet ya can't.
Face it 9/11 was a tragic event...but unlike most tragic events, all it spawned was hate and more death. The more we focus on the subject the more bitter we'll become. Let it go.
GTA is a great game. Something new from the franchise. Doesn't seem all that toned down to me when you walk around and take everything in. Seems to focus more on the behavior of people, rather than the crimes. Which is good...because I noticed the rocket launcher in my game's a bit glitchy...damn thing blows me up on the second shot everytime haha.

Wait.. are you serious? You must be half retarded to have misunderstood my post that bad. I'll reply to what you said in numbered form so I don't confuse you.
1. How is a 5 year old not innocent? I'm saying innocent as in.. they have nothing to do with the conflict. They're just WORKERS. Just people living their lives.
2. This could go with number 1, but I'll make a 2 for it. I'm not saying it's OK for soldiers to die. I just think it's different than when a soldier dies in a war, then it is when an office assistant dies by getting hit by an airplane. Soldiers join the military with the knowledge that if they go to WAR, they have the chance of dying. I like how you tell me to "grow the hell up", but then you say that them not putting airplanes in the game was a 'bow down to the system.'
3. You mention a prostitute dying from AIDS. That's like saying we should feel bad for smokers cause they die from lung cancer. Also, about 85 people die in the US from being shot, everyday. I'm not going to include the prostitute dying from AIDS in this equation, just because that's fucking stupid. But for your information, 9/11 killed 2990+ people in that ONE DAY. That was only the immediate deaths. That doesn't include the people affected by it. So, you said people being shot everyday should be 10x more than the 9/11 attacks. 85 < 29900.
4. Please, never post again.
Just to clarify for anyone else. I don't mind that the game has no airplanes. No one knows if R* didn't put planes in the game because of 9/11. It probably has nothing to do with it. Sorry to make this whole post about this, but I hate when people spout ignorance. Especially when they call me "son." I'm probably older, and a hell of a lot smarter, than that guy. Have a nice day!
