Wow.
Publicity?
Oh boy, here we go.
Any other situation this would just be a sad and shocking event that took place. But because you can point out the connecting to something violent (a video game) that was the center of this act, it's an automatic blame game.
They might as well say "some guy stabbed another guy because they were in line to buy a game where you stab people. it's obvious that the game encouraged this behavior".
So sad.

Yikes. I loved how people who witnessed it compared it to the game. Like you would though I guess. Still ridiculous.

I love how the title for the story is "Ultra Violent Gamer". That turned me off right there, and the fact that people didn't know the guy was in trouble really just screwed up. A guy's getting stabbed and there best excuse is "We thought the store was trying to hype up the game?"

It could have been a queue for the number 72 bus in Croydon and somebody would still have gotten stabbed, Im suprised the article didnt mention manhunt II.

That's crazy that people just stood their watching assuming it was a stunt. I'm pretty sure it would be noticeable to tell apart from someone being fake stabbed and another actually being stabbed.

Think about it though, if you're in line for a game and someone gets stabbed, you don't really want to be too rational and scare youself like "oh god is he gunna stab me?!" you're gunna want to think of something to make you feel better and safer. "Must be a stunt for the game, yeah?" and you look for conformation from other people in the queue, who agree it's a possibility, and then people get talking and think that that's what it must be because numerous other people have said it.
It's just an ideological possibility, but it's even enough to see why people might assume that it's a stunt.

The fact that it happened in Croydon says it all....
I feel sorry for the bloke though... he probably didn't even get his copy of the game.
Seriously though, I do hope the guy is ok.

The article didn't mention that he then went on to hijack a car, run over some joggers, drive into an Army base and steal a tank which he then somehow managed to fly it through the sky.

You know it was over an argument unrelated to GTAIV and they both let their male hormones get to them and the guy who did the stabbing had no control over his temper... Simple as that. It is just a coincidence that the game they were in line to buy had violence in it. There are waaaayyyy more violent video games out there that never get publicized for "making people hurt other people." I guess people will hate on whoever/whatever is in the spotlight. You know if the GTA4 devs renamed it "a cute cuddly walk in a city similar to New YorK" that it wouldn't get any guff lol.
Don't let Fox News get a hold of this infomation or they will create more bogus stories out of their ass. "Top story tonight Johnny, a kid played GTA 4 and stabbed his parents while bathing in their dogs blood" The kid had no mental illnesses until he popped in Grand Theft Auto and the game sent subliminal messages straight from the devil to kill his parents... and the family dog. Back to you..."

It's idiots like this who give rest of us gamers a bad name, and also may lead to restrictions being put in place on midnight releases and in some future games.

The people in front of him thought it must be a stunt, the people behind him thought 'woohoo, one step closer to the front'

I can't see how they connect it to the game.
When the Edmonton Ikea in London was opened. They were giving away Sofas to the first 100 people.
About 3 people were stabbed then. if my memory serves me right.
All i can say is, 3 piece suite crime is on the up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dammit. What a time to decide to stab someone. It's assholes like this that make it a struggle to enjoy games as awesome as GTA 4.

Why is it a struggle to enjoy the game? As long as you have it, noones gonna take it from you. lol
and BTW, someone puked taco bell up in the line at my local Gamestop

lol, I want to know, why does everybody blame videogames for violence. Does it said anywhere in the game "go out and kill somebody or stab?" NO!!!! So, I wish these fuckers quit blaming videogames because some stupid bitch wanted to kill somebody. Like in new york or some big city where people boost cars everyday, does it said because he played GTA?

If people blame the videogames, it's like their get-out clause.
It's like saying "I didn't stab that guy, God made me do it."
But replace god with a videogame, or movie, or whatever. People/media just not accepting responsibility for their own actions

i can here foxnews preparing their next announcement already...
Foxnews "GTA IV is a menace to society and must be banned. We have a psychologist (never played gta) here to speak on our behalf"
reporter: "Grand theft Auto is a series of games that corrupts the minds of the youth and is making younger generations more violent. bla bla bla bla"
I am SO glad that i don't watch fox news...

i wouldn't be surprised if all the facts weren't straight on dailymail's site if you read some of their headlines for other articles they are hilarious. "Woman dies of heart attack after being stampeded by cows as she walks her dog (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=562714&in_page_id=1770)", "Primary school bans trendy slip-on ballet shoes to stop playground accidents (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=562748&in_page_id=1770)"... haha

Wow, you were there? Was the crowd really as naive as the news made it out to be? I find it really hard to believe when someone (especially many) witnesses a brutal stabbing that they would just nonchalantly play it off as a gimmick put on by Rockstar to promote a game. Especially in a smaller city, township (or whatever you want to call it) that this event took place.
How did every one really react to what happened?

Probably so many stabbings because guns are so hard to get. They should probably make sharp knives illegal. Blunt objects after that, followed by ropes and cords.

It actually had nothing to do with the game it just hapened in the que for th game im no sure what you meant by play it off as a gimmick but it wasn't to do with the game.
No one was especially shocked as no one relly knew what happened, its not a one off though it happens nearly every week now..same street its just this time there a was a god awful violent video game which caused the stir. We talk about all these stabbings at college and spoke about it today im just amazed the news travelled this far.

I read that this morning, quickly took it out of the paper and shreaded it. Can't risk parents turning against it suddenly.

it goes to show these games do not train murderers, as the guy who stabbed wouldve had to have played GTA first to have trained himself to stab someone.
