Main reason GTA: IV multi-player will fail for me.

Now, the single-player will be absolutely amazing, and I'll play it religiously for about a month, but the multi-player aspect of the game will fail in one specific area for me personally. I hate playing public lobbies in CoD4/GoW or any XBL multi-player game simply because everybody is so tense and serious - and there's major amounts of trash talk constantly. Stop and think about how much worse it will be in GTA, I mean c'mon (this isn't meant to be offensive/racist) think of all the fake 'gangsters' that are going to purchase the game.

The idea of the multi-player is amazing - and I'm sure if you get a lobby of 15 of your buddies running around having a good time it'll be great, but as far as public lobbies (if they even have them? I'd imagine they do) I'm pretty much set on not playing them at all.

EDIT: I'm not crying about XBL trash talk, 'cause I realize it's in every game, but just the idea of playing against 15 other XBL tough guys wanting to act like they run with LK is just not fun for me.

Also, about your 'gangters' statment, I agree, Saint's Row was a pain in the ass. I once finished playing a game (won by miles) and then all these "wanna-be-gangtas" started talking shit about how white british people shouldn't play the game... I have a feeling GTA will be just as bad but I'm not that fussed, I'll just own them and file compaints 'cause I'm cool like that :p.

I don't think it will be as bad because quite a big bit of the live community will be playing it online and Saints Row only has a select few playing it online that are mostly want to be gangsters.

When Saints Row first came out it wasn't as bad as it is now online because it was new and there was alot more people playing it online.

I think GTA4 will fail for me. Ive never been a fan of ANY of the games - Although I just get them when they are cheap and not popular for the fun of entering cheats or destroying millions of cars with tanks.

Tbh, so far Ive hated all GTA storys, and only ever managed to complete Vice City.

EXACTLY. Saints Row was terrible, I don't think I can deal with it all over again - it really does just kill the multi-player aspect of games for me.

I think Saints Row was a different story in terms of the online community. That was just a cheap sandbox game. It dealt with actual street gangs, not the mafia. I mean, you'll surely get that whole gangster attitude on GTA IV sometimes, but it's a big release with a much broader fan-base.

There were tons of ganstas in Saints Row and that was really annoying, but I still look back at its multiplayer as a great experience. There will be hundreds of thousands of people playing GTA4, and the video game playing gangstas are a minority. Just don't talk to them and hope friendly fire isn't on in this game by default. (It was in Saints Row, and dozens of times my teammates killed me because I was white).

SoLo, I think I'm in your shoes. I want to play for competitive fun, not with kids who spam the mic or act like jerks. Especially with this game, the sandbox fun you can have with Free Play mode sounds cool just to explore.

I'm one of the people who doesn't like to lose, but I'm not one of the kids who will trash talk if I lose.
Hell, I went into a game on CoD 4 on Sunday and actually had an intelligent convorsation with my friend and someone I met in the game.
If only that were in every game, and people could just hold intelligent conversations.

COD4 is matchmaking, not a lobby, just relax and try it out, supposively the multiplayer is a big shining point for GTA4, but what i want to know is, is there any local play in the muliplayer? cause if u look on xbox.com under the game details it says theres multiplayer versus which on all other games means local play....anyone who's played it know??

You could play without a headset or you could just mute the "gangstas" in the lobby. It isn't a big deal. You shouldn't let something you can control stop you from playing an epic multiplayer game.

Ive been playing it online for nearly a week. It is ruined already with people who shouldnt be playing it (squeaky voiced 12 year olds). If you win, people start sending abuse and things like that.

I cant wait until all my friends get it so I can just do private games. There is no lag online though, it is brilliant the way you get the FULL map on the free roam.

If you get stuck in a lobby with some punks why not make your own entertainment by roleplaying and being an even bigger/more exaggerated wigger than they are. See if you can achieve the beautiful irony of having them get the shits with you for acting exactly like they act. They might not appreciate such deep and subversive satire but you'll have a ball mate :)

Just mute or tell them to shut up. you can mute them but how about when they are on your team and try to kill you every time you move. I think they need to have adult game sight -kid game sight, keep under age players off adult online games, let them have there fun, let us have ours
