April 18, 2008 (Computerworld Australia) Chinese hackers appear to be readying for an attack on the West scheduled for April 19. The basis of the attack appears to be the recent, and very public, pro-Tibet coverage in Western media organizations.
A Chinese site called Anti-CNN (http://www.computerworld.com/action/inform.do?command=search&searchTerms=Cable+News+Network+LP+LLLP) is setting out to counteract what it claims are the lies and distortion present in Western news coverage of stories concerning China and Chinese national interests. It is calling for street protests in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom on April 19 (Beijing local time; early evening Friday on the East Coast, or close-of-business on the West).Apparently a group of Chinese hackers calling them selfs the "Red Hacker Alliance" has put out a message on various forums and websites that it's members will be engaging in a 'massive DDoS attack' against cnn.com tomorrow.
The Red Hacker Alliance is known around the nets for attacking computer systems for political reasons. The DOD said a large percent of U.S. Gov systems that were compromised in 07 could be traced back to suspected members of the Red Hacker Alliance.
Usually I enjoy sitting back and watching the mayhem created when these kind of hacking groups announce an attack on a big corporation or media outlet, but I draw the line when these damn dirty communists are involved.
Anyway, it should be interesting to see if they own a botnet powerful enough to drop a site that handles so much traffic(for me anyways)... If they do, it could mean trouble for a lot of people.
