Today my 3RD XBOX360 went defective (DVD DRIVE CLICKS). The obvious answer is to get it repaired, but silly me.... Thinking that the 3rd one is a charm - I could open it up and customize it. My first two 360's were defective in the first week of arrival. As for this one, it lasted a well 7 months.

The worst part is, with classes coming around the corner and less work time, I don't think I can pay off another XBOX anytime soon. Also, many of you know, I do film editing and other stuff for clients with my video camera (which luckily went defective this last month) :-\

Its been fun, I guess I can play some arcade games, but thats it since the DVD Drive is fucked up. To everyone, you may watch my gamerscore go up by the 200's!

Anyone care to donate? :( (I don't expect anything - would hate to take money from people)

Bum deal man. I feel your pain. I got back a 360 from M$ after I sent mine in for repair. My first 360's drive tray wouldn't stay closed. The one they recently sent me is older than the one I sent in (read refurbed) and its been freezing up like crazy - even on arcade games.

Do you plan on sending it in for repair? Warranty? M$ seems to just be sending 'repaired' units off the shelf as people send them in. You don't get your own unit back.

Good Luck!!!;)

Isn't the warrenty only 91 days? I've had my 3rd one for longer then that... and I dont any type of warrenty since I opened it to paint.

lol, I'm pretty sure I got a new xbox... It's perfect condition and seems like it's never been used...

If its just your drive then you could always purchase a new one, they are quite expensive though.

Sheesh. I wish. The one I sent in had a manufacturer's date of Jan/06, but the one I got back has manufacturer's date of 10/06 (read toaster series)

Maybe you can get a drive from Ebay....????

Wish it was that easy, but there are alot of different versions of DVD Drives for the XBOX360. I, myself, had a Hitachi LG (HLG 47DJ). So I would need a HLG 47DJ for correct performance. Even then, its still kind of iffy.

Then again, I still don't have money for another drive.

It does require some work to make a new drive compatible with your current console but with drives starting at $80 on Ebay it may be worth trying in the future when you get some funds.

As with any Xbox 360 DVD drive it needs to be locked to the motherboard you have. This means you will need to have the ability to hook up your old drive to a PC, retrieve the lock code, then connect the replacment drive and apply the lock code. The drive can then be installed in your 360 and you can begin playing.

Well that sucks... Maybe we can start a fund eventually to get some money to you to pay for it, as you're a great addition to the forums and I'd love to see more of your video walkthroughs. I know I'd donate to it. Hope it works out for you...:(

does it like make the clicking noise then just show up on the dash as open tray, if it does when you put the disc in, flip the hd switch on the av cord, a lot of people with hitachis do that with the firmware hack to get their backups to boot, if that doesnt work tryshutting it off and pulling the hard drive off, put your back up in before you turn it off, when you turn it on wait for the green lights to flash and put the hard drive on, both of those cause the 360 to "soft" reboot, meaning it reboots the xbox but not the drive.

I know gamertag, but my originals don't even work either now. I'm going to try to upgrade my firmware or something.

That's ridiculously bad luck - 3 of them breaking. Will the official add-on HD-DVD drive solve your problems do you think?

(If we ever get an official release date/price)

BAH!

I'm sooo frustrated right now - I called MS

So here is the deal, I have to pay $91 just to get it repaired and I will not get any conpensation games or marketplace points like I did with the second replacement.

The thing that frustrates me - School is coming up reallll soon and I have nothing to do till then. I tried to milk out maketplace points but they didn't cave in.

So in the End.

I'm down $91 and I can't work becuase my equipment is malfunctioning, aswell as I have school coming up.

Anyone have ANY spare marketplace point cards they would be lovely enough to give? I'll put up a donation list on my website to show my gratification towards you along with other stuff.

Um, sorry to tell you bud, but i dont think they'll repair it, you opened up your 360 and voided the warranty. They're not going to repair a modified 360..

Pretty sure you're only option is a new one, thats the risk of doing what you did :( ..

Nah I can return it - its all good.

I replaced everything and it looks perfect. There is no way they can tell that I opened it. :)

With the screwless XBOX Case - there is only part that they CAN look at to tell if its been opened. Thats the Microsoft sticker below the faceplate. Which I ingeniously kept stored in a safe place.

Sorry to hear man, but it looks like you'll be back up and running in no time whatsoever ;) $91 will be worth it in the end. Think positive :D
