I thought April Fool's was last week...
Microsoft Plans Xbox 360 Wiimote
Rumored peripheral will borrow heavily from Nintendo's designs.
by Gerry Block (http://gear.ign.com/email.html)
April 7, 2008 - MTV News (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1584945/20080404/id_0.jhtml) has gone to press with a pretty serious revelation that Microsoft has apparently been developing a Wiimote-like peripheral for the Xbox 360 since last August, and that a final product may see release this year. According to MTV's source within MS, Microsoft-owned game developer Rare is leading the project and is responsible for defining an interface and look for the controller.
According to MTV's source, prototypes of the controller are quite similar to the Wiimote, though Microsoft's version will apparently have four Xbox-looking face buttons, an analog rather than digital D-pad, a built-in microphone, and no port for a linked peripheral ala the Wii's Nunchuck.
Though 'borrowing' ideas from the Wiimote might seem like an easy task, MTV reports that the project has been troubled by conflicts between Rare, who's designers are aiming to expand the interface concept beyond what the Wii is capable of, and Microsoft, which is accused of wanting nothing more than a bullet-point copy of Nintendo's controller so game developers will have an easy time porting titles between the consoles. MTV's source also suggests that Microsoft is developing a Mii-like avatar system for Xbox Live.

With the "overall success" of the Wiimote and somewhat good use of the sixaxis....i'm surprised it took this long for MS to jump on it......I'm just trying to figure out how it can be put to use future installments of the 360's existing franchises.....maybe we can wave it around pretending its GoW's chainsaw.....:woop:

It's not doing anything for Microsoft's reputation, but that went out the window about a decade ago. I can't blame them though. I'm sure plenty of soccer moms will buy it around Christmas, and of course there is the mindset that Xbox 360+Wii=Win.
Either way, if this thing ever does see the light of day, Microsoft will keep on rolling in the cash, and the world will keep spinning. Personally it might be worth a look if they can actually pull it off, but only time will tell....

You heard it from the Anchorman. I posted the News a while back.;)
So I guess M$ really wants to push this idea. I guess I have to spend more money now.

I would shell out $50+ for this...unlike the $54.99 that I just paid for the DualShock 3...which (as has been discussed already) a heavier version of the SixAxis but with rumble....I kick myself in the ass for buying it....

No, we will lose GTA if we get it, then lose GoW and all other 18 rated games.

Yeah this news is also on many other gaming sites as well. I dont want this to happen because then everyone will be saying that MS is copying Nintendo.

i think it would be a good idea but i dont think it would really work out with games like gow and gta but it would still be good for others.

game companies always copy each other. saints row was a copy of gta yet everyone let that slide as it turned out to be a great game.

It's totally unnecessary. I have a Wii. I like my Wii, and I play it when I want something light-hearted and more pick-up-and-play.
When I want a more engaging game (and I can't be bothered to wave my arms around) I play my 360.
Two totally different consoles for totally different purposes. There's no point trying to merge the two.
I won't be buying anything Microsoft makes to do with motion sensing, at least not if it does little more than the Wiimote.

most games that are bought by 360 owners are shooters, racing games, and sports games, right? so idk how this would come into play unless they did like a metroid prime thing for the shooters....which would be real gay....

Isn't this just a classic example of Microsoft doing what they do best - copying or buying innovation? Don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, I have a wii and they are fun to play, but my xbox is mine alone, getting a controller that my kids could use will just end in hours of 'can I play your xbox, dad'.
Come on Microsoft - invent something new (the April Fool Helmet could be a good place to start.....)

This just sounds awful...i like the idea of an avatar though, camera RSV type thing with random clothing. And as your gamerscore builds up...so do your muscles....yeeeeaaaaah

i think this is a cool idea, would be a nice change to play we style party games over live and in hd, the real question is how well will they pull it off

I prefer to just sit down and play using a controller.
If I wanted to wave my arms around and jump around like a maniac I would of bought a Wii..

this would be sick for games like gears. Imagine if it had a scope on the remote and when you looked in the scope it showed the in game scope. That would be insane IMO
