View Full Version : Suggestion About Old Threads

Hey, this is just a suggestion to clean the board up a little bit. Maybe save you guys a little bit of space.
I frequent the Oblivion, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect boards, and I notice there's stickies for each one that are.. well, old. Like in ME, the screenshot thread, you could delete that if you wanted to. Save a little space, make it to where there's one less thread we have to look at.
Also, in Oblivion, the Game Info threads. Who doesn't know what Oblivion is, really? :D
Just my suggestion.
Thanks for reading.

The last part is a great idea. game Info threads should definitly be un stickied or deleted after a few months of the games release. It is useless, and takes a possible useful post off the first page.

But what about that person that does want to know the game info for Oblivion?
You can't just assume every person out there knows what Oblivion (or whatever game you might be looking at) is.

Well I would say let them go somewhere else. As far as I know (I haven't been here long, so correct me if I'm wrong), this website is to help people get achievements. I don't think it's the website's responsibility to tell people what a game is like. If someone really wants to know, they can just google "elder scrolls oblivion", go to their official site, get all the info + screenshots, etc.
I think the official site would be way more helpful. But then again, this is just my two cents. I just think that there's a lot of threads in the way before you even get to the real forum, ya know?
[EDIT] - Another suggestion to help clean it up. Why not combine the Achievement Guides and the Achievement Discussion threads? Just make an Achievement Guide / Discussion thread. People already discuss the achievements in the Guide thread anyway. But then again, half of the Guide thread is "omg nice job!", so that's up to you.

Both your ideas will never happen. Why get rid of something that is there to help people?
Also, I don't know shit about Oblivion so now that you've mentioned it I'm going to do a bit of reading down in that forum.

No no no no no no. That is the exact opposite attitude we have here. We are primarily achievement-based, yes. But then why have reviews, tournaments and contests? Out site name may be Xbox 360 Achievements, but we are much more than that. We are an overall 360 site, and as such will do our best to inform our users about everything.
Many of those threads may be able to be combined, however... I think maybe once there is an official guide, we could do something like:
Game Info, Screenshots and Achievement Guide
Then just have a mod create a new thread and merge all that info into it, sticky it and lock it. Then we could still have the generic Discussion and Trading threads. This would take a somewhat decent amount of work, but it might be nice for the overall appearance... I'll work on it if I'm bored at work I suppose. I bet Perpetual and JDM would offer their services as well. *hint, hint. nudge, nudge*

I can see how you might think that given the site's title but understand we're not simply about achievements any more as we're covering all aspects of gaming on the 360. News, reviews and so on all promote a place people can use to find everything they need about a game, which should be reflected in the forums too.
Achievement Guides ought be locked up when they're 100% done i suppose, they're usually left open in case people come along with revisions or whatever. And mate if there are people that have never heard of COD there are bound to be those that have never heard of Oblivion.
Pants: Agreed about merging those threads, nicely done.

I guess I'm just different than you guys. I don't want to read a thread telling me a game is an RPG, etc. I can look somewhere else for that. I just think it's a waste of space. Again, that's just me. That's why I ran this by you guys.
But then again, if people had never heard of Oblivion, what are they doing in the Oblivion forum? And I think that's a pretty good idea, Pants. How would you do the order?
You also have to think about how some people might be on slower connections. You might not want to put the screenshots in the same thread as the achievement guide. Oh, and I know you guys aren't JUST achievement based. What I was getting at was there's way better sources to get INFO.

I understand there may be better sources (maybe "more in-depth" if a better way to put it) for info, but if they go away for one thing, then they'll go for another and soon they may not feel the need to come here. If we provide everything possible for them, then they have no reason to head over to some other site.

But then again, if people had never heard of Oblivion, what are they doing in the Oblivion forum?
If they hear someone mention the name in a thread, odds are they may move to that forum to have a look what people are saying about the game.
We are an ever expanding site- whilst orginally we were pure achievements, thats so far in the past I cant remember. The question about removing the info is the wrong question. The question should be how do we make those sections better....

Well, let's look at the Oblivion thing for a second. The mainsite's page for Oblivion (here (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game.php?gameID=57)) has a section for Guides and Media. Add a "Game info" section where the "Cheats" is, since there aren't any cheats for 99% of the games, that's 3 stickies that can be replaced with a single link.
If a Walkthrough section was made, that's another sticky or two that can be taken off a few forums.
Look at the Halo forum, for instance. There are 12 stickies. With this setup, you can say goodbye to the Legendary Walkthrough, the Forge guide, the multiplayer guide, the achievement guide, and maybe the Skulls, Terminals, Metagames, and ranking system. That makes 4 stickies, a far more managable number

We can't assume everyone will look at the game's page and know about those links. The information needs to be on the forums as well as the game's page on the main site.
But, like I said... many stickies for older games can be combined, so I'll start working on it and hopefully some people may join me. ;)

I said that the forums would have a link to the main site, where the information would be. It's a few extra clicks compared to a cluttered forum.

im unsure you know i see both points
im new and there are a lot of threads, posts etc and they could be combined to make it easier to navigate and look less cluttered
BUT
i also know its this way for a reason the guys who run it, maintain it prefer it this way and it would be a lot of work to start merging and re organising the site

Well I guess I've done my part by mentioning it. I shall grab my horse and ride off into the sunset! Ah man.. I don't have a horse. :(
