Stuck: Climbing The Empire State

Uhm...I'm stuck in the last level and it sucks, I just picked up Anne and the screen said "go to the corner and press X to climb the building" when I do that everyone shoots at me and I'm dead, now I can't even hit the cars or anything, how can I start climbing this thing?
