View Full Version : Limit sig pics?

Any way we could do this? I know I can just block off all sigs, but if I do that it just doesn't feel like I'm on a forum. Going through some topics and seeing people with 3-5 pics in their sigs is just kind of going overboard. I understand if they are small, but half the time they have 2 or 3 pics that are 450 x 450 or even bigger...

Not to point fingers or anything, but Murderous Appie is one of the people with a sig that's going overboard.

I think they should just get friendly recommendations by moderators/admins to take some of them out.
Administrators can even edit members' sigs themselves, if it gets too out of hand.

And yes, I agree about the whole situation.
I guess people just like all their sigs and can't decide which one to use.
I remember seeing one person who had [x]'s under the main sig, and when you clicked them they brought you to another of their sigs.
That's a good idea just to get people to see all of them, but also to switch between the one showing once a week or something.

I have a better one, Every member should be aloud one sig 500x420 which will avoid this. I have 2 is well but i don't mind taking one off if the rules say so. Maybe have a FAQ on sigs if you know what i mean.

Well, yours are kind of like perfect. It doesn't really stretch out your post, vertical wise, like having 2-3 bigs pictures.

It's silly really, people who have over large sigs should be warned anyway... then there are sigs like mine... they look big but contain small images...

But seriously there was one sig a while ago that was ridiculously large I think it was Bluntman's... it really uglied up the forum. Those types should be banned..

Yeah, the look big with small images sigs are the ones I'm talking about >_<.

Darth, you're actually one of the people this applies to. For instance, simply moving your two gamercards side-by-side would reduce the size greatly. When your sig is about eight times the size of your post, that's a problem.

But yeah, if you see a sig image that is too big or a sig comprised of 4-5 images that gets large because of that, just report a post of theirs and say so. I guess you could PM a mod, but go with the report first and if nothing is done in a day or two, then upgrade to the PM.

Your sig is fucking huge. the images may be small but the actual space it takes up is horrendous.

I think there needs to be a limit set on how many lines of text you can have and how many pixels it can be.

I actually think my sig is rather large (since adding a pic) but it's miniscule compared to some of the stuff I've seen here.

02-24-2008, 04:15 AM
Yeah Heyburt, we already see your one gamertag on the left, so you could take that one out of the signature and save some room.
And do you even need the other one for your spare account?
Maybe get a userbar-sized one for that account.
Maybe take out the quote as well to be honest.

That should make your signature space look much better.

And I need some advice for mine...
I added this Dark Sector thing, do you guys think it makes my signature space too large?
I wish I could take a vertical version of it and put it beside the other signature, but if I do that the centering gets messed up. :(

Nobody on this forum has heard of a sig rotator?

That would solve a ton of problems. ;P

On our profile pages, we have a section for sigs. Could that be where people dump all their random stuff, then have a size limited sig for the forums. I think some of the huge sigs look sweet and should be displayed somewhere.

As a general rule of thumb your signature's size should not be consistently four times that of the body of your post. If it does exceed that either reduce the signature's size or start typing more into your posts.

Least that's how I think about it.

VI JimJam

I have quite a few signatures, but they're not really all that big. Therefore it should be the size that matters. :)

Edit: Also if you're have a race to xxxxxx gamerscore, then you should use the smallest gamercard picture you can, a lot of people use the big square one, which takes up a lot of room.

You can't expect anyone to remove there sig because we don't have any sort of rules on them maybe it's time we should.

The Pants Party
02-24-2008, 03:24 PM
We don't really need rules; if a mod or admin tells you it's too big, then it's too big.

Zef
02-24-2008, 03:35 PM
There are sort of rules on sigs, but only the size of individual images. I don't think you should tell people to keep it to x number of images because they could be small ones and in a line to reduce the size whereas someone with two images might be pushing their luck with stupid sizes one on top of the other.

Would it be possible coding wise to change how the sig input thing works so that a maximum size is decided and the actual box for typing in your sig is that size so that excessive sigs are just impossible to do? Not sure if Routine has the option to change that though. But as The Pants Party said, if you think someone has a particularly large or inappropriate sig then report it or send me or one of the mods a PM and we'll rough them up a bit.

I've PM'd a few folks on here about their Sigs.

It's either way too big or they have one Sig on top of the other, making it look like it keeps dragging on forever.

Theres a setting for restricting the size of someones sig in Admin CP where you restrict the size of peoples Avatars etc its in the same place

What's the big fudging problem, you lot need to stop fudging whining it's getting on my nerves.

Wooah: Your sig may not be big, but I don't like the images, I think they are Ugly...would you please remove them, it would make your signature space much better...

Twelve: Your sig is also ugly and should be removed before it blinds anymore members...also I take offense that you would advertise your PSN id on this site, as most of our feelings for that fudging black box are mutual.

and Pants...

Remember when you had that awful blue and white piece of poo that made the page look like a lonely hearts ad for you Gamertag.... who told you to change that? No-one... oh what a suprise....

It seems that people pick on members like me when there are other issues that are plaguing this site...i.e...Spammers who are posting poo then flaming other members for condemning their crappy posts...

Mods who punch way above their station and treat the smaller members like poo.

Mods who speak to more junior members of the site like they are poo even though said members are doing their best to help out...

Pants, I'm not actually surprised there are members out there who can't fudging stand you seeing as you near enough ruin this forum for some of us with your condescending posts and arrogant nature.

To be quite honest I will change my sig for two reasons... one because it will stop this ridiculously childish whining over seemingly nothing... and two... well I don't really see the point in keeping my x360a Tag if some higher ups don't feel I'm welcome to it..

Sorry man, looking back at my post now it seems kind of harsh but I actually was just trying to help.
I thought you wanted your sig to look better so I thought I was giving advice you asked for, I must have misread your posts.
It's not like you were being friendly anyway, so the fact that your signature reminded everyone of those that you flipped out over struck us all as hypocritical.
I wasn't one who said your signature was bad either, I just wanted to help trim it down to please the others who were distracted by it.
And thanks for the constructive criticism, I'll try to make my next signature as good as yours.

All the best,

Wooah.

Darth Heyburt, don't flame other people. Methinks you deserve a nice little warning for flaming and generally poor language. If you have a problem with someone's sig then PM them or a member of staff about it instead of posting in such a way. And if you have a problem with members of staff then post a complaint in the Complaint boards.

And fix your avatar, it has Family Guy in it.

Can't see what the big deal is to ask people to make their sigs smaller and why their getting so upset about it.
For example im using a 22" monitor on my PC with resolution 1600x1200 and they seem big to me, now think about someone with a 15" monitor using a smaller resolution, quite frankly i wouldn't come to this forum because it would take 3 miniutes of scrolling before you can see anyones posts.
Rather then reloading your shotgun and yelling "Get off my Signiture Land you gypsy" show some respect to the members of the forum with smaller monitors and lower resolution by making your sig that little bit smaller.

Not a single person ever complained about it, so how would I know it was annoying anyone? Also, Shady made it, so talk to him about the size of my name on it. Maybe he's in love with me, who knows.

I know you'll probly be a bit of an arse and say that I am arse licking but Pants is not arrogant, all the times i've spoke to him he's been very kind and always willing to help me with anything that I don't understand etc.
As for him being condescending, no he's not, if telling the truth is condescending then so be it.

I dunno - I've had experiences of these three parts of this post before.

I've done that before and never heard anything back at all - so not sure if it works? Just thought I'd let ya know :)

Getting off topic now, but the Admin have to take each complaint individually and look into it in their already busy schedules of admining and baby-making. But just because you hear nothing back doesn't mean that nothing has happened.

Everyone back on topic now, or the hounds shall be released.

Agreed, Zef. These people have lives, the 360 is not their obsession. They have jobs, families, and other things to handle, so it takes time and consideration before someone starts ragging on staff. I have never been mistreated by any staff member on this site, experienced speaking with many of them and helped me out alot, with forum issues, award issues, etc.

And anyway, limiting the sig pics would be a lot of time, work, and effort. Like others implemented, just report him/her if they have a large sig that is of disturbance of you viewing the forum. Not the type of sig, the color, the size. It's as simple as reporting a spammer. This button below will solve your problem:

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/images/X360A/buttons/report.gif (http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/report.php?p=676489) This is the report button; use it and use it wisely. It can become your best

Sigs are awesome let them be i say! :p

Seriosly tho, if somones sig is too big or you think its becoming a problem, PM a mod its not hard, there is no need for this "ban this" and "limit that" your blowing the problem totally out of proportion, PM = promlem will be taken care of

Sigs have fealings to you know!

Zef: Note, PM actually means Private Message in the context of the forums. This bloke is typing nonsense and you should never ever ever listen to him. Ever! =)

On the whole complaints board- if we see it as a serious enough thing, we do take action. If its a ' he said my momma was fat' type of complaint, then tbh, we don't do sod all.

On the sigs, we do give people warnings if we see them, and then change them for them if they fail to act.
