i have not upgraded my characters at all yet.
is this a problem at the end of the game or not so much.

I only upgraded certain things - mostly power attacks or things I thought I would actually use. The game is easy enough but if you are having problems with a certain boss, you can upgrade at anytime to help.

I would recommend upgrading the last creature you can use... the one that can fire out molten lava... cant remember his name... but the final boss is much easier to take down when you've upgraded the lava balls..

That'd be Thermite, DW06. And Ya, he's worth the upgrades.

Of course, once you know what you're doing, points and coins and everything else aren't too hard to get in this game.
