There has been some confusion as to what each of the difficulties unlock when you finish them, so following is a complete list of all unlockables in Devil May Cry 4:
When you first start the game all that will be unlocked is the "Human" and "Devil Hunter" difficulties. To get the remaining difficulties you will have to complete "Devil Hunter", "Son Of Sparda", and "Dante Must Die".
Note: For images in the gallery use the Left and the Right Triggers to scroll the image.
Human (Very Easy):
Human is the easiest of the difficulties with the least number of enemies, most people even on their first playthrough should go through this with little effort.
Completing Human will unlock the following:
- The History Of Devil May Cry = This is a movie that tells the story of the previous Devil May Cry Games, and can also be unlocked by completing Devil Hunter
- Character Images = This is a collection of 29 images of characters and weapons from Devil May Cry 4, and can also be unlocked by completing Devil Hunter
- Bonus Art = "The Two Heroes".

Devil Hunter (Easy):
Somewhat more challenging than the Human difficulty level but still manageable for the majority of people. There will be larger numbers of enemies, as well as different types in certain areas.
Completing Devil Hunter will unlock the following:
- History Of Devil May Cry = Same as above, can be unlocked on either Human or Devil Hunter difficulties.
- Character Images = Same as above, can be unlocked on either Human or Devil Hunter difficulties.
- Bonus Art = "The Cast"
^ Found in the Gallery
- Son Of Sparda Difficulty (See below).
- Bloody Palace (See bottom of the page for a link to a thread with detailed information).
Son Of Sparda (Moderate):
Playing on this difficulty will have enemy placements changed significantly to increase the games difficulty (e.g. Assaults on mission 2, a Blitz on mission 4), the enemy will also take more hits to kill.
Completing Son Of Sparda will unlock the following:
- Bonus Art = "The Demons"
- Publicity Art = 12 images from Devil May Cry 4 including computer generated and concept art.
^ Found in the Gallery
- Dante Must Die Difficulty
- Heaven Or Hell Difficulty
Dante Must Die (Very Hard):
At this difficulty level the enemy are very powerful dealing extreme damage with even their weakest attacks, they will also use different moves, e.g. Dante on this difficulty will use Lucifer and Pandora in the first fight.
Completing Dante Must Die will unlock the following:
- Bonus Art = "Demon Invasion"
^ Found in the Gallery
- Super Nero = Same as the regular character but has unlimited Devil Trigger (DT).
- Super Dante = Same as Super Nero.
- Hell And Hell Difficulty
Heaven Or Hell (Medium/Easy):
In this mode everything dies in one hit, including regular enemies, bosses, and you. Due to this completing this mode isn't very challenging as you can use your gun to easily kill enemy at a distance and simply dodge their attacks. You will have three gold orbs that will be used to revive you, you cannot pick up any more in the stages and of course vital stars are useless.
Completing Heaven Or Hell will unlock the following:
- Bonus Art = "The Ladies Of Devil May Cry"
^ Found in the Gallery
Hell And Hell (Extreme):
This mode is the same as Heaven and Hell except only you die in one hit, the enemies do not.
Completing Hell And Hell will unlock the following:
- Bonus Art = "Light From The Demon Blade"
^ Found in the Gallery

Rank Multipliers:
Following are all of the multipliers (good and bad) that are applied to your score when you are ranked at the end of a mission.
No Damage Received: x1.5
No Item Used: x1.2 *
Gold Orb Used: x0.7
Continue Used: x0.8 (if you don't use a gold orb)
Enemy Level Down: x0.8 - If you are killed repeatedly the difficulty will be reduced and you will recieve this deduction.
Super Character Used: x0.2
^ Each of the above are multiplied with your score at the end of a mission to give you your final ranking. I assume they are added one after another. I'm not certain on whether negative multipliers are added before or after positive ones.
* So although you do not lose score for each item used (e.g. healing items) you will lose this multiplier which is a significant amount of your final score.
