Ok, today at school some chick from one of my new semester classes. Walks up to me and asks me a question and then this one question leads onto a whole discussion. So...she starts talking.....she used the word like after every other word in her 30 word sentences. It was getting some pissed that I just felt like slapping her in the face.
Do people at your schools or work places use the word "Like" a lot too?

I admit, I say "like" SOMETIMES, but not every other word, and it's usually only when I'm nervous and can't remember what I was going to say :p
but yeah, people who say it an excessive amount of times really piss me off
Like, it's like they like don't like have any like intellegent words in their like, vocabulary.

All I'll say is you're the last person who deserves to complain about grammar.

I use it. But as sparingly as possible.
It gets really annoying when some preppy cheerleader-type is using it every three seconds.
Makes you think of her chewing Bubble Yum and twisting her pig tails.
UGH.

Yeah it annoys me when I meet people like that, although I admit I've never seen a case as extreme as you are describing! Another phrase which a lot of people seem to say nowadays after every other word is "ya know".
It's always : "We played well today, ya know. Played good stuff and ya know erm, we'll look to push on from here ya know."
Every time I see Wayne Rooney speak (footballer), I'm just counting how many "ya know"s he says!
YouTube - Manutd - Fulham Post Match interview with Wayne Rooney
23 "ya know"s in a 2 minute interview. New record I think! Argh! :p

He's allowed though, Rooney = God, ya know.
I only say the word "Like" when I am nervous/being questioned about certain things in class. I just get shy or something and start saying that.
It's weird. -.-

^^^That would make a great quote!:p
I am the Grammar Police and hear some of my customers say the word "like" all the time in their sentences. You get use to it and slapping them in the faces won't do anything good.

It's mainly used by stupid people as sentence filler. I try not to use it as best I can, since again, stupid people use it a lot.
BTW - LCD...who approved that x360a in your gamertag?

Most of the time, the word "like" is used by those really retarded stuck up chicks, only to try to sound cool in front of their friends or whatever. I don't pay much attention to it because I've heard it all my life.

I believe i only use it in the correct way. I like etc...
Haven't really met many people who say 'like' all the time. Nor do i leave the house very much.

I think I've only met one person who used the word "like" a lot, and that was years ago, and I haven't seen her since (good riddens!).

I use it when I get nervous but never notice it. I remember last semester this girl would use like every 3 seconds and after a while you could even predict it.

The only time I use the work like is when making fun of someone who uses like way too much. I have many people in my school who overuse the word and it does get very annoying.

It doesn't bother me too much, it's just noticeable to the point where it's easy to make fun of.

Omg like I don't see what the, like, big deal is. It's just, like, a word you know? Like seriously just, like, leave it alone. People can, like, talk how they want and, like, stuff. God you're all, like, stupid or something, like, seriously.
Lol no it's really really annoying and way over used. It's not even used for a simile anymore :(. You're supposed to compare two things with the word "like", not use it every 2 or 3 words people!

I noticed it a lot in high school but I was never one to use it.
I always end up saying "um" or "uh" when I'm nervous. I had someone in my class count how many times I said either of those in my English class when I had to do a 10-Minute presentation and I said it around 70 times...

I dont use it that much, I'm 15 and I tend to use it when I'm nervous and/or giving presentations. Using Like during Sex is the key to success. ;)
Since like is such a basic and meaningless word in the new form of english lingo that it really can be thrown into any sentence in any situation and still be acceptable. Unfortunately this has spawned the idiots who assume that might is always right and that therefore the longer their sentence the better it is.
Naturally I'm going to, like, make the cliche joke that, like, everyone in this thread is making in an attempt to, like, seem completely original and, like, hilarious.
