I love the storyline of the DMC games, but it makes no sense to me. I would like to know which comes first. My feeling is that it goes 3,1,4,2. This is because it seems that dante meets lady first in this game, and also meets his brother vergil. In 4 it seems like dante knows lady, which is why i say 3 comes first. Then i say one, because after vergil is defeated he fights mundus (the antagonist in DMC1) and loses, thereby becoming Nelo Angelo. After he is defeated he reveals himself to be Vergil (surprise) and disappears. Then i wonder what happens to Yamato to make it become broken in 4. Was it broken in a fight perhaps. If anyone has theories on this please post it here. Anyway back on topic. Then 4, because trish regains her humanity in DMC1, then appears as dante's sidekick in DMC4, as well as knowing Lady from DMC3. He also says that yamato once belonged to his brother (vergil) which means Vergil possessed it in DMC3, and he wants it to give to his brother (who is dead i think ). I also want to know what nero has got to do with anything. I've heard that vergil's spirit manifest's itself into Nero's arm (Devil Bringer) making it all super saiyan. Also nero's DT looks surprisingly like Nelo Angelo from DMC1, even having the scabbard on his left side. If anyone can clear this please post here. Anyway that's about it. Everyone can agree DMC2 comes last.

I want to know what your ideas are, and why.

I would of thought 3,1,2,4 but i don't know. I know that 3 is a prequel so comes first, but im not sure on the others. The storyline is always demented and wierd.

The order of the games as far as the overarching story is concerned is 3, 1, then 4. According to Wikipedia: "[Devil May Cry 2] serves as a sequel to Devil May Cry and is currently the last game in the Devil May Cry series to take place chronologically."

As far as Nero's origins go, there's very little information at the moment except what little is revealed in the game. Also, Dante doesn't say he wants to give Yamato back to Vergil, he originally says he'll take it off Nero because he "wants it to stay in the family".

From the game's storyline we know a few things about Nero:

- He has the same blood of Sparda as Dante and Vergil
- He can wield Yamato's full strength with the same potential as Vergil
- At least part of his body is capable of assuming a Devil form

Given this, we'd have to assume one of four possibilities:

1. He's Dante's son (least likely)
2. He's another son of Sparda (unlikely)
3. He's Vergil's son (possible)
4. He's Vergil reborn, or at least some aspect of Vergil's soul

I consider four the most likely based on the form his Devil Trigger takes and the way Dante acts with him, which is similar to how he behaved with Vergil.

But again, until Capcom verify things, it's all just speculation at this point. Unless someone has the game finished on the hardest setting and is privy to information the rest of us don't have? In which case please share ;)

If you beat the game on human mode it say's "just because it's a prequel...."
So I'm shure it's before DMC2. (god knows why they still count it.)

Well Dante says that Yamato "Used to belong to my brother" at the end of mission...10...or 11 i think, when you verse dante again. So i am assuming he is going to keep it for him or at least (As cheaptrickz said) in the family. Also i have heard rumours that Nero is Vergil's son, so that is why Vergil (supposedly) is possesing Nero through his arm. As soon as Nero gained Yamato, it seems Vergil's soul was fused into it and whoever wileds it has his power. However only a relative to Vergil could repair the sword, and only by insurmountable odds. So i am thinking that Nero Is at least related to vergil is some way other then father and brother. Also if all 3 have the same blood as sparda, where does that leave Nero? Because Vergil and Dante are twins, how can someone possess the blood of sparda without being related to him, unless he is Sparda's grandson or whatnot. And if Vergil had a son, who would be the mother? I know nobody knows this, but it something to think of...

Thanks for the responses. if anyone else has any, feel free to share.

Also while surfing the net (yes i own a surfboard...FOR THE INTERNET!!) i picked up something:

Dante: It's been nearly a year since we last met. Where does the time go? No doubt you've got some fun planned for me. Right Vergil? (Devil May Cry 3) Wiki

"A year since we last met". Hmmmmm. What happened then?

I personally think the Nero is the reincarnation of Vergil not the son because the conection between Dante and him is to strong and in the back of manual there's some little story thing that made me even more sure, the order of the games is: 3, 1, 4, and 2

You do realize that there is a Devil May Cry 3 Manga? It explains what happens in the year before Devil May Cry 3. And something that makes no sense to me, in the anime, Trish leaves the business to Dante and becomes her own Devil Hunter. However, in DMC4, Dante and Trish are still partners.

And before anyone says "DMC4 takes place before the anime.", Lady and Trish meet for the first time in the anime, so that means that it is impossible.

Now that I'm done ranting, the order of DMC storylines, including the anime and manga are....

Devil May Cry 3 Manga
Devil May Cry 3
Devil May Cry 1
Devil May Cry Anime
Devil May Cry 4
Devil May Cry 2

Okay, yes I realize there is an anime and a manga, but considering just the GAMES, not the anime and manga, the order goes

3, 1, 2, 4.

3, because it takes place in the past, before his business Devil May Cry comes out. Then 1, 2 and 4. In 2, trish and dante arnt partners anymore, I know this, but they arnt really partners in 4. I believe that 4 comes last, due to Dante's seeming to get older in the 4th one.

Now, as the anime is concerned, it comes either inbetween 1 and 2, or 2 and 4, I'm not really sure seeing as I've only seen the frist DVD due to getting the collectors edition.

And the manga, that comes first, I do believe.

The Devil May Cry story lines are a bit confusing to follow, but 4 doesnt come before 2. And if you read the manga, you'd know what happened the year since they've seen each other.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil_May_Cry_(series)

The chronological order of the Devil May Cry series does not follow the release order of the games. Devil May Cry 3 takes place first as a prequel to Devil May Cry, which is followed by Devil May Cry 2. Devil May Cry 4 takes place between the first and second game.

Devil May Cry 4 takes place before Devil May Cry 2. Dante looks alot younger in 4 then he did in 2.

One more thing, I've seen the entire Devil May Cry anime(They already finished it in Japan)and the anime takes place between Devil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 4.

I know this because within the first few episodes Lady and Trish meet for the first time. In Devil May Cry 4, they already knew each other. ;)

Sorry guys, i havn't seen the manga or the anime, i guess i will have to get around to watching it. Also 4 takes place before 2, because if they weren't teamed up in to (hypothetically saying that 2 is before 4), then why was she with dante in 4? You see. And in 2 Dante does look alot older. I am getting less confused, i guess. That's for the information. If you guys have anything else, feel free to post.

Yeah Game Informer confirms that most of you guys are right with the whole 3-1-4-2 thing and the anime/manga fits in between it all. I already can't wait for DMC5 lol.I've played em all with 2 sucking the most, 3 sucking because it was hard, 1 is my fav, and 4 is good except i have to fight the same bosses over and fucking over again. Like c'mon.

It's because Berial eats babies. That's why the story is so confusing.

exactly. 2 sucked balls. it was not only the worst Devil May Cry, it was one of the worst action games ive ever played.

even Capcom said they would like to forget it was even made.

The only problem with DMC 2 was that it was far too easy. Other than that, you could play without excessive gun use and make it a little tougher on yourself and it also adds to the fun of the game. I tend to not think too badly of DMC 2 because it was the first game I got when I bought my PS2 and loved it then.
