KEEP IN MIND THIS DOES NOT HAVE ORB LOCATIONS, you must have 95% of the orbs to obtain an S rank, so try to B button everywhere to try to locate all of them. Try to locate them with Nero's arm first as they are far more difficult to locate with Dante.

Sweet, was hoping someone had info on this.

Two Questions

1) For mission 1, when does it start timing, when you are doing the training, or when you start to fight Dante??

2) What about orb requirements for getting an S, how many orbs do you need on each level to get the S??

I believe you need 95%. But if your just going for the Achievement. I've gotten 'S' time, 'A' style and 'A' orbs and still got an 'S' ranking.

the orbs in the training dont count I dont think. I smashed all the benches in training and I wasnt able to get tht many in the fight. In the end it says I only got 80 orbs, im sure just from training alone I got more than 80. So I got D on orbs, but I got S on Style and Time so I ended up with an A, so close. I bet if I had B or more on orbs I woudda had the S.

Same thing happened to me, I believe the reason is because the overall rank you get is based on the points you earned (shown at the end of the level) not the ranks you received in each individual category.

So if you have to finish a mission in 10 minutes to get an S, but you do it in 5 minutes you get more points than if you had done it in 9 minutes. Thus you can afford to get a lower rank in orbs or style.

im fairly sure the time in lvl 1 starts when you begin fighting him, otherwise it would be huge, and yea in order to compensate you have to do much better in one category than another (finding orbs is garbage), so other max that style out or run quick, because chances are unless you know where every single orb is, youre not going to get 95%

ther are 400 to get 100% you get credit for the orbs in training and then when you start the boss fight i got an S on orbs and style and a A on time and got an S for lvl 1 on DH mode

I would also like this thread sticked as its very helpful when going for S ranks.

Archonfury you may also want to add the following multipliers as they also affect whether or not you get S Ranks:

No Damage Received: x1.5
No Item Used: x1.2 *
Gold Orb Used: x0.7
Continue Used: x0.8 (if you don't use a gold orb)
Enemy Level Down: x0.8 - If you are killed repeatedly the difficulty will be reduced and you will recieve this deduction, credit to Fawfy.
Super Character Used: x0.2

^ Each of the above are multiplied with your score at the end of a mission to give you your final ranking. I assume they are added one after another. I'm not certain on whether negative multipliers are added before or after positive ones.

* So although you do not lose score for each item used (e.g. healing items) you will lose this multiplier which is a significant amount of your final score.

Enemy Level Down: x0.8 (Not 100% on what this one means)

I got this one on the Dante fight after I died a couple of times. If you fail to many times in a mission the game lowers the difficulty and than punishes you for it. It should have been an option really and not something that's forced upon you since it lowers the score for that mission a lot.

Man, I hate trying to get S rank in Human Mode. The enemies die before I can pull off any good combos, which screws over my Style ranking. Just starting to get frustrated with Mission 2 since it's all scarecrows that die in 1 combo.

Ah well, all I can do is keep trying I guess...

Yeah, I had the same problems. All I can suggest is that you try to finish the stage as quick as possible and get as many red orbs as you can. Stage 2 is pretty linear, so getting at least 95% of the red orbs shouldn't be too hard.

Doing really well in time and orb collection will help compensate for a weak style score.

That's what kills me. I can never push myself over 93-94% Orbs. I know I'm so close but not enough.

Ok how annoying is this? (Human mode mission 2 S rank replay)

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj42/NDrag0n/DSC01249.jpg

What i think the guide could use is the minimum number of points needed to S rank each mission in total. Because just saying S in time might get you an S overall isnt too accurate lol...

Argh, so close!! I just gotta learn Berials moveset to avoid attacks and keep my style up...

With me, I take Berial out before he can land a hit on me. Since I have all the Purple orbs, I focus on maxing my DT during the mission. Then as soon as the fight starts I go DT.

Get a quick combo off(I use Y,Y, then Y,Y,Y,Y)and knock him out. Another combo, then do the Buster combo. At this point he's just screwed. Another combo and Buster combo him again. He should be either dead or nearly dead by this time. If not, a quick combo or two should finish him off.

Usually get to Atomic before I finally kill him.

I was using the gun attack trick during a DT buster, which gets style but not as much as stringing combos. He dies so quick that i lack the style lol...

i was curious, i haven't played part 4 yet, but i have the 1st dmc, can you just replay levels over and over until you get S rank, like does it have a level select screen that allows you to replay levels?

Yes the game has a level select screen from which you can replay all of the levels (that you've unlocked) for each of the difficulties, and you can replay them as many times as you like. Theres also a ranking screen that lets you view the ranking you got for each level, and view the specifics of each levels rank (time, style, and orbs found).

cool, that makes life a lot easier.

I like how when you replay a mission it shows you how many stylish points you get. Too bad they couldn't have just made that a default option. Great guide, that's definitely bookmarked :)

What grade did you get for orbs? Check the final score you got with the one in the guide too, cos item use will affect your score etc..

So in order to get the S rank, you just need to reach the quota amount of points?

I'm having trouble S-ranking Mission 2 on Human. So I could get an A in orbs, an S in style (kill enemies, exit, re-enter, repeat) and C in time and still get the S rank, so long as I got the points required?

Thanks for any replies.

Yes as long as you get enough points you WILL get an S rank. But its important to keep in mind that the ranks act as multipliers making your score much higher if you S rank categories rather than getting B's or a C's. I posted the points required for each mission in the S rank requirement thread.

I believe the S rank multiplier is 3x, the A is 2.5x, B is 2x (not 100% on these numbers). So if you scored 10,000 style points with a B rank you would end up adding 20,000 to your final score whereas getting an S means adding 30,000. So aim to S rank as many areas as possible (I usually focus on just two), and if for instance you have alot of extra time use it to get more style, or to find more orbs (orbs or often the easiest to S rank as they are in the same location for each difficulty).

With mission 02 on Human I aimed for time and orbs, as unless you can defeat Berial without being hit (and be stylish at the same time) you will likely not get enough style by the end of the level.

They sure didnt make it easy to get them S ranks, i struggle getting them on Human so imagine me trying for them on the higher differcultys. The Guide here is great with the point requirements but i just suck and cant pull it off lol.

I am kinda confused about S ranks, so the only thing that metter is your total points? you can like.. get a D em everything but spend 10 horus illing enemies to get enough points? (just an exemple)

I am heaving a hard time on mission 2 Human mode, since the enemies die fast and you cant get much combos going on, theres some orbs I just cant find too, i always get 86%.

If thats true, that the multiplier for S rank is X3, so orbs are the best thing to get? 100% orbs in most stages must give you a LOT of points. Theres any guide to hidden orbs locations?

Before trying to get any S ranks in any of the difficulties I would suggest that you finish the game several times (I had finished Human, Devil Hunter, Son of Sparda, Heaven and Hell, and most of Dante Must Die) before starting to S rank missions. By this point you will know every level off by heart and should have also found most (if not all) of the orbs on every mission. Its also worth noting that Human and Dante Must Die are the hardest mode to S rank, as in Human enemies die very fast making style a problem, and in Dante Must Die the enemy do alot of damage to you making surviving without using item difficult.

Yes in theory this would work as points are what matter not individual ranks in the three categories. However when you go back to areas to fight the same battles again the enemy gradually give you less and less style points, so to get the mission complete with enough points may well be impossible (if you get a D in time and in points).

The worst I have ever managed to score an S with was an B in Time, and S in orbs, and an S in style, in that example I had stayed on the level fighting enemies long enough to build up my style to about 1.5 times the amount I needed and was able to get the S rank, making sure not to take any longer than nessesary and making my time rank go down to a C.

I am heaving a hard time on mission 2 Human mode, since the enemies die fast and you cant get much combos going on, theres some orbs I just cant find too, i always get 86%.

Some commonly missed places for orbs on mission two; Near the start of the level where you get the ability to grab the blue orbs there is a red orb hidden in one of the corners (after using the first blue orb). After running down the stairs that are next to the red orb statue there is a tower on the right of the screen, there are two hidden spots on this tower one on the first level of the tower and one on the second level (use air hike or jump off the side of the tower to reach them). After going through the door to the next area take a left and against the cliff wall is a large red orb (you may need air hike for this one).

Other than that make sure to smash everything on the level, I would advise running through each level with finding orbs as your main priority until you learn were they all are. Also keep in mind that whenever there is a hidden spot nearby your devil arm will have a blue glow around it.

If thats true, that the multiplier for S rank is X3, so orbs are the best thing to get? 100% orbs in most stages must give you a LOT of points.

As long as you get 95% or above orbs you will receive an S rank in orbs, however the amount of orbs you get isn't very high so although that number is multiplied by three you can't rely on it to get an S rank without scoring high in time and style as well.

Keep in mind the point score for orbs refers to the orbs that are found on the level itself not the ones dropped by enemies, and so the the amount of points you can recieve is fixed for each level.

Theres any guide to hidden orbs locations?

Not that I've seen though I had found the secret orbs several weeks ago and haven't searched for any guides since then, so they may be some now.

Thanks for the advice demon9tom, will play the game some more on SOS and DMD before trying for S ranks again. For those of you with problems finding hidden red orbs feast your eyes on this. YouTube - Devil May Cry 4 Hidden Red Orbs / PS3 /

Edit- Although the title has PS3 in it the orbs are in the same place on the Xbox 360 version. I take no credit for the video, full credit goes to Fromac4.

if u really want fast orbs so that u can buy health items and holy water, u should give mission 3 a try!!! a little extra tip is to kill the 3 enemies first, that way ur DT gauge is filled more. finally go to the red stone that gives u orbs, but make sure u activate DT first and then start destroying the red stone with crazy combos. i get around 4,500 to 5,000 orbs everytime i do it. it should't take long b4 u also get the 1 million orbs!!! hope this tip helps people!!!!
