View Full Version : Best Devil May Cry?

Which game in the Devil May Cry Series is your favorite?

For me, I'd have to say DMC4. In my opinion, the game has the best cutscenes of the entire series, that and the overall easier difficulty of the game really eased my back into the series.

That, being able to switch styles at anytime, and Nero really sold me.

this is one game that should have stayed PS only it plays better over there

DMC4 is good, but still not as good as the original for me. Who on earth voted for DMC2? That game was awful & 3 was too hard, so I never really got into it. Therefore the original gets my vote!

You know what... I'm gonna go with this one. The original was pretty sweet, but I just find Nero awesome to control and that grab button is now a fantastic feature.

i would have to say 3, it was actually challenging, had awesome combos (riding on the enemies back while shooting kicks ass) n IMO had the coolest boss to fight on DMD....Vergil

As i Agree with you that the 3 is better but I still think I will tip my hat to 4 because switching your styles on the fly is pretty damn cool.. but they seem sohow dumbed down and not as hardcore as the origional style of 3 but none the less still awsome.

ROFL!

3 was too hard? I think someone needs to man the fuck up.

I would say #1 was the best in the series, but 3 outdid it SO much just by adding the ability to attack another enemy mid-attack as #1 was very 'attack one at a time and one only' unless you lined up the enemies.

I'm not really liking 4 at the moment, I'm on Mission 06 but right now I'm not feeling this 'Devil Bringer' arm - not much I can do with it... I can't pull myself onto walls, ledges or anything, they should have added it as a sort of grapple system too (with limits obviously.)

Also the fact is they've tried to make Nero more like Dante and all they seem to have made out (i'm just judging it) so far is that Nero's right arm is essentially Vergil's arm (Underground lab sequence anyone? Come on!)

My vote goes for 3.

Also, posting this here will just end up in DMC4 being voted most as this is the DMC4 board. Also take into account a lot of players have probably never played a DMC if they've always had an xbox and no PS2.

Yes, I caught on to that when they released the first trailer and then the demo made it all the more obovious that Nero is the reincarnation of Vergil, also the way dante treats nero is like a brother as he and vergil were. though it seems the dante has kinda taken the virgil roll for this in a way. plus im sure that eventually that he will aquire more of his demon form as the story progresses. the yamato, is the key that he was able to referbish it and the fact that the devil forms are the same with a slight diffrence. Not much of a twist to anyone thats a fan, but none the less i still have to finish the game been busy but i will finish it today. and try and finish my guide. as well.

I wouldnt say he was Vergil's reincarnation - Vergil never died at the end of 3 and we all know that because it's obvious he's the Dark Knight in #1.

So more than likely he's found a way to possess a human body/lend power to a human body from the Demon world... because after 3 he says that he'll stay here and fight off the Prince of Darkness (that being Mundus) so more than likely this time round this is his way of helping.

Well its been awhile sence I played 1 but im pretty sure the Neo Angelo was Vergil, and im pretty sure you killed him as dante in DMC1 so that would make him dead. and now he was reborn in some fashion or another as Nero, and He is getting his powers back, little by little do restore his devil form, Ie the arm was born and im guessing you'll get more back as the game contunies or they will continue making DMC but with Nero/Vergil. As the main character.

Or this could be the lead up to DMC1 and if I remember correctly wasn't the name of 'vergil' actually "Nelo Angelo"?

Nelo - Nero
Angelo - Angel

Nelo Angelo looks very like the 'Angels' here in DMC4... just speculations :)

Yep, Vergil is as dead as they get. If what I caught from the summary in DMC4 was correct, Vergil died fighting Mundus, but Mundus ressurected him as Nelo Angelo for DMC1. And when Dante killed Nelo Angelo, he released Vergil.

In other words, Vergil = Dead.

Nice catch, never caught that.

If you look at the "Angels" names in the Library, you will see they actually have Angelo in there names. If I remember correctly, when Vergil was ressurected by Mundus, he also took part in an Ascension Ceremony like...

Credo, Agnus, and Sanctus, and all of the Order's knights.

....Again, if I'm wrong let me know, I'm only human....:p

I'm a bit torn on this one I really liked one and four (Hated 2 for obvious reasons and never really liked the story for three) but I voted for four because of the cutscenes, and Nero is definately Virgil's reincarnation I mean look at what Yamato did and if you read one of the last pages in the manual there's some crap about a dark knight that made it pretty obvious

This game is amazing, story isnt all that cohesive but its a japanese hack and slash, what do you expect? The visuals are absolutely incredible, and id probably say its one of the best 360 games ive every purchased, it just blows me away.

He has got to be him. As Dante say's in one of the missions about the sword that he wants to keep it in the family so he lets nero have it straight sign that he is somehow linked or that Nero is Vergil Reincarnated. Especially at the end of the game. When he lets him keep it and say's it up to you now what you do with it. common you know something is up. But I pretty sure that this is a follow up to DMC1 not to sure about 2 though. it seems the kinda just shrugged off 2 altogether. But it makes sence after 1 because he has full control of his Devil Powers as in DMC 1 never was able to fully use them. But which also doesnt make sense is the fact that he is pretty much in control of them in 3 which is the prequal.

My vote goes for 3. The Reason I found it so hard was probably because I had to use my PC keyboard to control Dante. For me in order it goes the original, 4, 3 & 2 should never have exsisted! Maybe my opinion will change once I'm done with 4 as I'm not even half way as yet.

The wall of text makes my eyes Bleed....

I really don't understand what your saying about Nero and Dante. All the text is giving me a headache.

The reason why Dante has Devil Trigger in DMC3 was because his sword, Rebellion, had to be mixed with his blood to unlock the power. So when Vergil beat the hell out of Dante at the beginning of the game, it triggered Dante's transformation.

hey yeah my vote went for 3 because number 1 was and too lacking in the control side of things and like someone said you could only attack pratically 1 persona t a time 3 has by far the best cut scenes come on dante running down the tower kicking ass then gets eaten by the big flying fish lol i thought that was hilarious and the combos in DMC are meant to be complicate dthats also why i like number 3 it was the most challenging fo me over all

I have to say 3 because the missions were short, the enimies were really cool, there were a heap of bosses (much more then DMC4 and DMC1) and the areas/cutscenes were great. Also i think Vergil is one of the best gaming characters to date, even better them pac-man :O!!

No. 1 gets my vote. I was simply amazed when I started playing DMC. At that time it was the coolest game ever. And without it we wouldnt have 2,3 and 4 ;) (Forget #2)

Devil May Cry 3. That game was just amazing. Dante was just so arrogant and cocky and it was great. He talked so much crap and he thought every fight was just the greatest thing ever.

In Devil May Cry 4, I was just ready to play as Dante, Nero really didn't impress me that much. Don't get me wrong Nero is a badass but it just didn't feel the same playing as him than Dante.

So it goes like this for me.

DMC3
DMC4
DMC
DMC2

And whoever did vote for 2, just stop playing games.

First off, If you haven't played them all don't vote please. Doesn't really help the polls too much.
So far DMC 4 is the best IMO. Better cutscenes, combos, character variations, story, etc... (Although the whole backtracking thing kinda pissed me off a bit. <_<)
A close second is definitely DMC 1. Without it I wouldn't be typing this right now. It was a ground breaker for gaming for its time.
DMC 3 comes in third. I know people are probably hating but w/e. It was O.K. and no I'm no newb at the game (Heaven or Hell mode was a bitch!). Good cutsceens some better than 4.
Last comes DMC 2. Three letters Capcom: WTF. I'm still waiting for an appology.

i would have to say 3 cause i enjoyed playing it over and over but right now im getting into 4 and i must say im really impressed so far so once i beat it i will have to stay with 3 until i complete 4 cause 4 is winning the race to me :D :P

DMC3 gets my vote. I like it when an action game makes me work for the gold, and did it ever! To be good enough to beat it you actually had to be a legend and it felt like it :)

Also... Ninja Gaiden!

Adram

DMC3, no contest really. Superior to DMC4 in gameplay mechanics, control, challenge and level design certainly. As far as the story and characters go, I enjoy all the games, sans 2, but DMC4 has some really fantastic cutscenes and outrageously over-the-top self-aware scenes (Dante/Agnus Shakespearean dialogue).

I always found the Devil May Cry series to be a poor man's Ninja Gaiden anyway.

Funny to hear that.

Ninja Gaiden and DMC are two different games. As much as neither of the games are believable, DMC is far more believable.

What makes a game stand out from the crowd is the ability for the player to empathise with his character and throw them deep into the game. I never felt that with Ninja Gaiden and of course Gaiden was an amazing game but it'll never hit the mark for many people like DMC has and always will.

This should be a post for pple who actually played all previous dmc's, dmc4 has an unfair advantage here. If you played all of them, you would problably agree dmc3 is the best one (a lot more of a challenge too!). The Agni and Rudra swords ruled hard in that game (plus one of the best cutscenes after that bossfight ;) )!
