View Full Version : Lucid Dreaming- DISCUSSION ONLY!

Hello again.

After a three day ban, I will try to make this as clear as possible.

This is a discussion thread for lucid dreaming. No websites will be given, even if asked, and no one will be allowed to post any websites about lucid dreaming. It is a mere discussion thread for the practice of lucid dreaming.

I've been practing lucid dreaming for 3 years now, and I thought it would be cool to discuss it on X360a. So discuss away!

For anyone who doesn't know, lucid dreaming is the practice in which you can control your dreams, manipulate them, and do various things. You are consciously aware that you are dreaming, and you have the ability to do whatever your heart desires.

DISCUSSION ONLY.

Once again, NO WEBSITES WILL BE GIVEN. I'm just clearing that up so I don't get banned again.

I had a weird one last night. I was being chased by mutants. I think I realized it was a dream and kicked the crap out of them. But its freaky when it happens.

Yeah. It's a feeling unlike any other. When you just have that moment of like.. "WTF.. I"M DREAMING?" then BAM its just like real life except you can do anything you want.

Well, in those previous 2 threads, I had websites or a location of a website. This is a mere discussion thread. Theres nothing against the rules here, and I'm sure the mods will understand that. This is a forum, and while I understand that website posting is off limits, I highly doubt I'll get banned for having a discussion thread on the same topic that happened to have a website attached to it.

i dont see a problem with this thread... so just keep it respectable and discuss to your heart's content. ;) it is an interesting phenomenon, or whatever you wish to call it. i have never had one myself. i think if i have ever realized i was dreaming, i always woke up.

i will be checking in occassionally... play nice. :p

Thought what out? The thread? Look guys... I wanted to discuss this on my first thread, but I was stupid enough to attach a website. The second time, I was just discussing it, but I guess saying "you can google it and probablly find a few" is also advertising. The thread seemed to be popular, and people were interested, so I just wanted to make another one. Yes, I thought it out to ensure that I didn't get banned for something non-intentional. Now, end of story. I really don't need to hear again how much I'm screwing up by posting a Discussion Thread. Let's all act our ages here.

If you read what he posted then you would have known why he decided to do this again.

I am very interested in this, I once had a dream where I was fighting a dwarf who was jacked. I knew i was dreaming so I every time I figured it out I woke up. I went back to sleep then I noticed it again and woke up. How can I keep myself from waking up? and how can I do this on purpose so I have it every night?

Way to put the guy down and add absolutely nothing but your ego to this thread.... seems like a smart thing to do in my eyes...

Anyway, I seem to occasionally get the full control lucid dream, but much like bullet most of the time I tend to wake up when I realise it. I've had a few very vivid ones and the whole checking your watch method has worked also.

Checking Watch Method.

When you are in a dream, check your watch, then check it again...the time will usually be different or not even a real time. This triggers your mind into knowing that you are dreaming.

What are your thoughts on Astral Projection?
I've been into astral projection, lucid dreaming and out of body experiences for a few years now.
However, I'm not very dedicated and just research it and think about it rather than practice it.
I do have lucid dreams frequently, but projections and OBEs are very rare, especially lately.
Either way, I think it's a very interesting and real topic(s), and believe in them to the fullest.
Every ethereal experience I've ever had beats any experience I've had in real life.
It's a shame we didn't exist there and visit here.
One day. (2012)

Might be a little off the beaten path, but any of you guys believe in premonitions?

As for lucid dreaming, I'm not to sure of how to control my dreams, and I usually forget whatever I dreamed about.

Best way to do that is to keep a dream diary mate. Keep a pen and book by the side of your bed second you wake up...BAM! write it down...and read my post for the Watch trick.

I do believe in premonitions... I dreamt the result of all of the games of the Premier League one weekend. I didn't notice until I re-read my diary a week later realised one or two were right and checked the lot. Scary stuff... and it could have made me rich!!!

I haven't really looked into premonitions, but anything is possible.
I believe in many things that would seem more unbelievable.

Here are a couple little ideas or tips for you to use daily to help with lucid dreaming.

As frequently as possible (aim for every half hour) just ask yourself simply, "am I dreaming?"
Think about it for a minute, look around you, come to the conclusion that you are not.
After practicing this for a couple weeks you will have it so ingrained into your head that you will ask the same question in your dreams... only the answer will be yes!
At that point, you will probably wake up the first half a dozen times.
Once you can effectively notice you're in a dream it's on to the next step.

After realizing you're dreaming, look around and find an object. (Or even create one)
Focus on it, and just concentrate as hard as you can on it to stay in the dream.
It'll be hard to avoid running or flying around, but if you spend your first bunch of experiences practicing just staying asleep, it will help in the long run.

Just keep using these techniques every day all day and it'll pay off in no time.

Wow, you really come off as a total jerk-off. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Didn't your mother ever teach you if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all (obviously my mother didn't teach me that). You seem like a little, pompous douche.

Related to the subject: I've known of lucid dreaming for years and had the pleasurable opportunity to practice it on more than one occassion. One great trick is to visualize your hands right before you go to sleep. Think about what it looks like to catch your hands out of your peripheral vision and just think about your hands. Then when you are in a dream you will sometimes catch a glimpse of your hands and all of a sudden (I don't know why) but you'll realize you are in a dream and gain control.

I've always found this hardest part to be staying in the dream once you realize what it is. But when succesful you can do anything! For some reason, I almost always take off flying which is a very glorious feeling, if somewhat fleeting. Dreams have always been very breath-taking in my life. I tend to have very long, drawn out dreams full of hidden meanings and cryptic messages.

Have you ever heard of astral projection? To my understanding it's the attempt to try and actually meet somebody else on the astral plane through means of both people focusing on a common meeting ground and the other person. I've never been succesful in that, but it's interesting none-the-less.

I just had a brilliant one.. I think the key was that my dream was disturbed by the phone ringing, so I realised that I was in a dream and took it upon myself to smash stuff up and for some reason pick up a tin of tuna fudge (wtf), when I tried to do to much...guess what I woke up.

The key is to not try to do much when you get a lucid dream... anyone else had any luck.

Mine are always different. I always seem to dream a day in the future, and remember a bit of it (like basketball) before I wake up. Always seem to forget as I get out of bed. Weird thing is, I always have deja vu as soon as it happens. A bit like future telling/ predictions.

I have been experiencing this since I was 8 years old. The very first time I was able to "control" my dreams is when I had a nightmare of being chased by possessed townspeople with weapons. I had to jump off an abyssal pit, only to realize it was a dream after all. I just flew away and in similar cases, just opened my eyes.

Since then, I was able to control how things will turn up in dreams, just like in a parallel dimension.

I find this subject extremely intriguing, so you have been graced by my longest post on x360a. Enjoy.

Many people are posting here saying once they realize they are dreaming, they wake up. This used to happen to me. Apparently the reason for waking up, is that your body is experiencing extreme happiness, or a euphoric feeling, this is abnormal feeling and jolts you into consciousness. Many people say (and it works for me) is to play it like a poker hand. When you are dealt pocket Aces, you don't immediately say "HOLY! AWESOME! ACES! I DID IT, I WIN!", you simply play it off as just another hand. When you actually realize you are dreaming, just try to remain extremely calm, 'bluffing' it off and focus deeply on whatever is happening around you.

The 'check your watch multiple times', trying to change the time/text each time seems to work the best for me. You are supposed to do this throughout everyday life on a consistent basis. Like someone above said, every half hour or so, ask yourself if you are dreaming. Just get into a ritual of doing something that would be different, or possible, if you were dreaming.

Also, a way that seems to be working almost consistently every night, is to set something to wake you earlier than you normally would. (My cell phone receiving a text, me checking it). Once you are awake, try to remember what you were JUST dreaming of, and keep focusing on it extremely hard while falling back asleep. Repeating to yourself in your head that you are going to have a dream, and be able to control it once you fall back asleep. Apparently this works, because you awaken abruptly in the middle of REM. This is right in the middle of a dream, so normally this would be when you remember your dreams.

I've been doing this sort of off and on for like 5 years, when I first heard about it. Lots of info on the internet/libraries. I can try to answer questions about how I did things, as they might be different than the 'regular' way. I also agree with exo-apollo. Alcohol, or... other things in your system before sleeping seems to increase your ability to recall dreams, and therefore, experience a lucid dream. Another way that seems to increase my likelihood of a lucid dream, which doesn't quite make much sense to me, and I haven't seen it written anywhere is to make sure I'm just "warm", not hot, not cold. And to have the blankets on my bed ALMOST fully covering my face. Like, I would have them up passed my neck, almost at nose level. Seems to only happen while sleeping on my side.

There are devices available to aid in lucid dreaming, never used one, but I'm sure they wouldn't hurt. The one I hear about the most is called the NovaDreamer. It's like a regular sleeping mask that you see some people using on airplanes and stuff to block the light from their eyes, except that this has detectors for REM. Once you go into REM, it will flash lights and play a sound. You can choose how bright the light is, and how loud the noise is. You don't want it to wake you up, just to be something to look for in your dream. Hearing a strange beep in the middle of something that seemed normal to you, would let you know it was a dream, since that would never happen in real life. I'm fairly positive this would help, but I don't even think I would be able to sleep with ANYTHING attached to my face, and just using the other methods seems sufficient enough.

whenever i dream i can start ot get control of it, but once i start getting the hang of controlling it or whatever i start to lose control and bad things happen. Like once i was a powerpuff girl and i knew i was dreaming and i could fly and lazer eye and stuff but then i lost my powers and couldnt do anything.

I've done it a couple of times unintentionally. One thing that I noticed though that easily lets me get into it is quite simple. When it happened I always noticed that I wasn't actually tired, but I was laying down and watching a movie by myself. I was so relaxed and comfortable that I fell asleep anyways. I would fall asleep and all the speech in the movie was what people were saying in my dream, which quickly allowed me to recognize that I was dreaming. I would then be able to change what was happening and affect my dream, but only for a little bit before I woke up.

Ever heard of Salvia? Tried it? Let me tell you people, learn to control a salvia trip and you'll learn what this world is about. You'll learn it means nothing. Salvia is the key to knowledge. One experience of salvia could change your life. I'm serious. For those who know nothnig about it, I'll give a quick history (not in-depth at all). Basically, its a herb, a member of the mint family, and is the strongest natural hallucinagen known. It's stronger than acid, opium and mushrooms etc. It's legal in many places but is slowly being banned. It originated in Mexico and was used by Maztec tribesmen (not Aztec, im not an idiot) and was used for spiritually healing, communicating with other worlds and speaking with the dead etc. To begin with, you'l have absolutely no control over your trip, but with experienc you can control what happens in your trip. Trips last about 15 minutes at an extremely tense level, and then the remaining 45 minutes or so will leave you in a meditated, relaxed state of mind. If you experience a good trip, it can leave you feeling extrememly happy for up to a week. Some documented affects are: Merging with objects, hearing voices (souls, spirits, dead etc), meeting inanimate objects and createres an d feeling strong connections with them, seeing in third person, strong forces pullign on your body, seeing black holes, seeing through walls and time travel. When your fully in the intense state, you will be completely unaware of your body, family, friends or your surroundings. It's one of the most undescribably experiences ever.

I'll explain one of my most memorable trips. As always, it starts with the room vibrating/melting/shivering. Which lead to a massive swirl like warp closing around me. I then felt a massive upward burst like force come from under me/from the ground, to which these formed to be massive tubes sucking upwards. I then merged with a horse, and was constantly switching between th body fo teh horse and into a kind of void area whee i saw a large planet like orb, with a heard of horses running. I continued to speed between watching my horse body run and actually being the horse.Tthe speed of which i felt cannot be explained. I literally can't explain this well enough. All i can reccomend is that you try it, but read up about it before. It's not a drug to be abused, nor is it a party drug. Make sure you have a friend watch you as you do not know what you will do while in this state. Another thing, there are no known physical or mental long term or short term affects of salvia, other than it makes you sweat alot while your in that state. After the trip is over, you will be 100% back to normal after about an hour or so and able to function completely normal. Try my pretties, try...

What a beast of a post! my biggest post ever lol.

Since this topic is quite out there i too believe in a lot of weird and wonderful things.
For instance i dont believe in god i believe it is only the devil but he has split personality disorder therefore he sometimes makes good things happen.

As for dreams a lot can be read into dreams and what happens or colours and objects in them back im my days of acid life was like a dream it was great sad thing reality always kicks back in and something great ends bit like dreams.

Well not entirly sure if I understand the subject, but I can't control my dreams. They are too random for me. Of course I get the intentional "wow that felt real"-dream, but 90% of my dreams I can hardly remember.

I will say this. On a radiostation here in Holland we had a guy that explained dreams to people that kept getting the same dream over and over. And he 80@ of the times he was right on the money. If it was real or not I can't decide, but after hearing peoples reaction on the air, it sure made me wonder.

Harharhar nothing as mindblowing as it is there....I regressed to my childhood, felt more comforted than I ever have in my life. Came to and have been better for the experience ever since. I suppose it does put lucid dreaming to shame, but it's an induced experience isnt it? I find my dreams to be more vivid when I take sleeping pills or have had a particularly stressful day.

Well, for "not understanding" the topic entirely, here's a brief explanation. And I mean brief.

There's a way (through practice) where you can realize you're dreaming, while in the dream, stay in the dream, and do whatever you want. Just like how you're sitting there, looking at your computer, you would have the same mindset in a dream. It would be just like real-life, except you can do whatever you want, go wherever you want.

Are you being sarcastic?

Uh, no. You don't "get high" and take herbal medicine and then go to sleep. It's a natural realization that you are in the dreaming process.

And "I don't really see why you would want to do it."....

Let's say for a second that you could control everything in the entire world around you. You could go anywhere, do anything, talk to anyone, ANYTHING.

That's why you would want to do it. Because it is as vivid as real life.
