I'm curious to see just how many members play instruments, maybe we can get some discussions going on music minoring/majoring in college and everything in general.
So post your instrument(s), pictures would be nice too.
Here are my babies:

Fender guitars FTL!

What kind of music does your band play? And do you have any hopes of going into music in college (if you're not already in it that is)?
Fender guitars FTL! New sig. I'm not too fond of Fender either, they just don't suit me. They do happen to be very nice quality guitars though.

We play Alternative rock i suppose, mainly in the style of radiohead, sigur ros, muse. My vocals i would like to think are like jeff buckley(with slightly less vibrato, he was the king of that) and thom yorke mixed with some Morrisey and Ian Curtis.
Also, I am about to start a Bachelor of Arts at Griffith University, i took a year off last year to drink and practice with the band.
The whole thing is rather exciting because my bass players father sold his house and bought a warehouse, which he has now turned into his home and also a recording studio ( he got about $400,000 AUS for the house and the warehouse only cost something miniscule like $25,000), so we pretty much have our own studio to jam non stop in and record in when we feel like it.
But soon we will be uploading some songs to myspace and I'll link ya'll when we do that.
And yeah, i like Fender's, my only problem with the Telecaster is that it sounds a bit too thin and wirey but it's not really a problem because I only play rhythm guitar, so its not too noticeable against the lead guitarists Ibanez.

That's awesome. I've yet to get an actual band started, but I'll leave that until college, since there are like 2 drummers and 5 bassists at my school, almost no singers that I'd like to be in a band with, and about 300 guitarists. Not much to pick from, especially since I don't really know any of them. :p
How long have you been playing guitar? Are you self-taught, or did you take lessons for a time? Sorry about all the questions. ;)
I look forward to hearing some songs from you guys soon.

I play guitar and drums. (There's quite a few of them in my place - 11 last time I counted - but that's only because my brother and dad play too).
Currrently, there's:
2 Les Paul Customs (Both white with gold trim)
2 Fender Strats (One black and one red)
2 Tanglewood Starfire (Both black)
1 Yamaha Electro-Acoustic
3 Acoustics (Purely for practice)
And one Gibson SG (Dark red)
Oh, and if you're interested, One Berkeley 8 peice and one Tanglewood bass.
Not that much really... ;)

Jeez man, I'm content with just 5 guitars. :D
What amp(s) do you play on?
Alright, I have this one but it's all black unlike this one. I also have a hofner from the 70's and an electro acoustic, which brand I don't remember tho..

I wouldn't consider myself a musician, but I do mess around with basses from time to time, pretty much in my spare time and when I have my family/friends who have them over as well. :D

Yeah I met all the members of my band at High School, in fact Primary School. Now we have branched off into our various university courses. Ive been playing guitar for about 2 and a half years, self taught. Playing with other people is the best way to learn, I've learnt alot by just jamming and mucking around.

I should talk to one of my friends and see if we can get something together.
@Fly: Beautiful.
@APX: I have a few friends who do the same with other instruments too. :)
@ThaMissinLink: Is that really you rapping? I'm listening to "Hurt" right now, and I love it. You should submit some of your songs to the podcast:

It's a beautiful guitar. I think I played one of those once, a guy from Guitar One came to where I take lessons and brought like 7 different Flying V's for us to give him opinions for an article on V guitars.
If I'm not mistaken, it was shockingly light, and had great balance.

Yea it is light and has a smooth neck and has great sustain on all frets.

It was great to play, though I hate trying to sit while playing a V, which is the only real flaw of them.

Yeah thats the only bad thing about them but I got used to it and I dont play much sitting down. I also forgot to mention that it has an awesome metal sound with its dean humbuckers.

I use a Line 6 Spider III 30 watts 12 inch amp. Its a very good amp It was lots of effects already on it. I got a Marshall Half Stack over the summer and it's great, it just doesn't have the crunch that the smaller Marshalls have. Nothing a pedal or two can't solve though.
I've been thinking about eventually getting a PodXT (when I've got the cash), since my friend has one and it's almost limitless with effect combos.
EDIT:@Steak: What happened to it?

I play bass guitar. I used to have a Washburn XB-100, but now I bought an Ibanez BTB 200, so I'm selling the Washburn. :P
Amp is a Crate one, I don't have any ideas of it's specifications, as it was my sister's.

I'm 5'8'' 140 and it seems to be 50-70 range. Hurts really bad at first, but by end of marching season, it was a walk in the park. I could dance, run, jump, etc.
The only thing I can play is smoke on the water. I just started though.

Yeah, everyone starts off with Smoke. I know of a couple somewhat easy-ish songs that you could learn which would help you out a bit:
-Living After Midnight by Judas Priest
-Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana
There are some fairly difficult parts in both for beginners, but once you have them down, you'll be much better, at least in looseness. I'd suggest you try and get the intro to Teen Spirit first, then move onto the next part in the song, and continue through.
But before you really get into different songs and stuff, I'd suggest you read a few of the beginner lessons on different guitar websites.
I'm sure you can already read notes fairly well, being in marching band and all, so that's one less thing to worry about (though you'll still need to know where the notes are on the guitar).
You can learn quite a bit through various websites and books out there.
Here are some sites:
http://www.cyberfret.com/first-fret/index.php (Free Online Guitar Lessons [Beginner Section])
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ (Guitar Tabletures)
There's so much stuff out there to learn, and it all basically starts with reading music, learning to play by ear, and basic chords. I wish I could pack everything into this post that would be helpful, but I'm not really sure where to start.
In short, a great start would be this book: http://www.berkleepress.com/catalog/product?product_id=11144
I'm sure they'll have it at your nearest music store.

I have a good friend that is a guitarist and he gave me ultimate-guitar.com as the site he uses. I love smells like teen spirit and I can do half the intro. I also found hey there delilah to be good for learning to pick notes. I'm working on it. I can read tabs since my friend taught me. If you can add me on AIM, I think it is SoccerpenguinCJ3.
Otisbum
02-03-2008, 12:21 AM
Sorry, don't have AIM. And there is another tab site (though it's down for a few months) called MxTabs.net, I used it much more than UG until it went down about a year ago.
But yeah, definitely play guitar with your friend, you'll find you learn much faster and much more when you play with someone else.
I'll check out Delilah, I've heard it a lot but never thought to learn it.

to answer your post otis...the ovation is pretty decent...its a low end model i got as a gift from my girlfriend..i think it sounds way better plugged in...mid to higher end ovations play great though and i recommend you check them out...i think mine sounds funky cuz i left it in my truck for over a year and it had to survive extreme cold and heat....(we broke up and i wanted nothing to do with the guitar) we have since gotten back together and i fetched it out of the truck and i guess the odd tone is a result of that.

Everyone plays Guitar basically  I used to actually play a lot of Piano when I was younger. I'm starting to take lessons again. Hopefully when school is over, I can also pick up Violin. Now those are manly instruments. Unfortunately my machoness isn't supreme so I cannot yet play the flute or harp. :p

Only a real man can spend the 12+ hours it takes to restring and tune a harp, then be able to play it well.
In fact, I think I'll take up harp some time in my life. ;)
