Subscriber COD4 Tournament - Schedule and Results Thread

Schedule Week 4:
Games to be played on Vacant, Free-For-All, 10 minute matches. The top two kill leaders get a win, all others get a loss. Next week the groups will be sorted differently and anyone who has two losses will be eliminated from the tournament. If someone is unable to meet with their group, or chooses not to participate, they will score a loss for that week.



All matches need to take place between Sunday 17-Feb 00:00 GMT and Saturday 23-Feb 23:59 GMT. Results need to be posted in this thread no later than Saturday 23-Feb 23:59 GMT to be valid. Any groups who do not post results will have all members scored as a loss.

No worries. If you still want to participate, you will have one loss at that time and it is a double elimination tournament, so you could still win.

Well, HAYxDEN and I showed up and messed around, I think I got 1 kill to his 10. LOL! Galren was unsure if he would be able to make it on Sunday, NumberUno x360a originally was going to but didn't show up, and iDangle missed due to some dumbass kid. :)

We can try again throughout the week if there is a time that works for everyone, or we can tally this up as a win for HAYxDEN and I and the first loss for the other three. I am fine either way.

Zlionsfan, jdm's lil bro and myself were discussing the results of our match. We discussed that unlike a halo 3 tourney, call of duty 4 is bias to whoever plays the most. Unlike Halo3 and some other multiplayer games where skill is based on how much you play but the weapons are luck of the draw, the RPG element of CoD4 makes it hard to keep the game completely even. I enjoy it and I'm so happy that we are having some subscriber only tourneys but I figured I would throw that out there.

I would recommend suggesting a time yourself and sending out a PM. You've got about 8 hours left (so you have time to get people in the match and finish it so you can post results by 23:59 GMT) - you might shoot for 23:00 GMT?

If there are only one or two other participants in your group, and you wait for a suggestion, you might not get any suggestions back until the deadline has passed.

Kickoff for the Super Bowl is somewhere between 6:17 and 6:30 PM Eastern on Sunday (11:17 to 11:30 PM GMT). I figure it'll end around 11 PM Eastern/8 Pacific/4 AM GMT.

It would be convenient if that were the case - Bobby confirmed that he can make 7 PM CST Tuesday via Live tonight (and could also make a Wednesday evening time if Tuesday doesn't work), so that leaves one more to confirm besides Tron. We should find out from HAYxDEN tomorrow morning. I sent a PM to him to make sure he sees the time one way or the other ...

Anyone have preferences on how to arrange groups this time around? First time I did it based on order they are listed in the subscriber awards, with new subscribers added to groups for balance. 2nd week I took the first person in each group and assigned them to group 1, the second person in each group and assigned them to group 2, etc. We are losing quite a few participants this week, so if anyone has suggestions on how to organize the remaining folks, I am open.

Assuming you get no company, if I counted correctly, there would be 12 people left for round 3.

To weed out one-loss people like me, you could do two groups of six with the top two getting wins, or three groups of four with the top person getting the win. It would be better if there were only four undefeated people, because you could distribute them accordingly.

You could also separate people into losers (one-loss) and winners (no-loss) groups; it would keep one-loss players alive longer if you want to stretch out the tournament.

If there are only 12 left, I would take zlions advice and split into two groups of 6, with the top two each taking a win. I think it would make sense to split the undefeated individuals up, but a complete random drawing would be okay I'd think. I guess it depends on how long we want this thing to stretch out.

Either way, you should be able to wrap this up in a couple of weeks to keep it about a month in length.

With the next set of losses, you'll be down to no more than 9, more likely down to 6 or so, and for round 4, you could almost line it up and keep doing matches, knocking out the two-loss contestants, until one is left standing. (You might have to track kills between matches to determine the top four for badge purposes.)

Yeah, that does suck...

However, one of the reasons for the subscriber gamertag is that you should not need to get a FR for competitions like this...Just use the Friends of Friends feature to send game invites, see who is online, etc.



For group one, I don't mind waiting as late as Wednesday if that means we get more of us in the group...But I am not available Sunday after 11am until late (as in possibly busy in until 9 or 10 pm PT). I am also not generally available on Tuesdays or Thursdays because I play Shadowrun those days with a group of people.

Marx...why do you keep trying to disqualify me from the tournament? It really makes me hurt inside :(. 6:30 tomorrow is good for me, and I think the final match will consist of three rounds, with the points adding up for the ultamite winner(Luckbox). The winner(Luckbox) will then win all the amazing prizes, and we all get an award. I(the winner) will double check with Creech to make sure this will be the format for the final match(of which I will be the winner).

*If after reading this message, you are troubled by thoughts of me winning, don't worry, they will go away by 7 pm tomorrow ;)...Tussell's ridiculous consistency does have me worried though...

This is an outrage. I joined this tournament for some friendly competition, not to be sexually advanced on. It's all well that Luckbox wants men to go down on him, but it is despicable that he would force himself upon me in such a way. I call for his immediate suspension of all site privileges, including participation in this tournament. To prevent further happenings, I move for Bobby to receive a similar treatment, as well as Tussell.

hahah very funny... But, on a more "serious" note; I would like some clarification on the final round.

I am not sure why would have 3 rounds just to add the points together. It seems a bit redundant. And, it takes away the value the winner. Because you can lose the first match by 6 kills. Make a comeback and win the next two in a row and still lose the tournament if you fail to win by large enough margins. I think we should stick to the elimination as planned thus far.

I think a rule change without clarification would not make much sense.

I have no problem with the 3 round match, I think it would just create more competition. I had also been under the impression that the final would have this format for a while. I also will say that I am not opposed to changing it back, but Creech gave us the format, so I say we just stick with it. I did have some things to take care of today, but I will just go ahead and stay online until all of us are on, and we can get this started. Also...my attraction to Marx had nothing to do with that message; that is a completely different subject ok? ;)
