how many lights was it? three? or four?

if it's four, it was just your cable not working properly or being plugged in all the way. you do not need to send in your box. maybe get some new cords though...

if it was three and it worked afterwards, you are just getting numerous temporary fixes (such as the towel trick, except you did not need to use one). eventually, you will have to send it in--so pick a good time to do it, and grab a book ;)

The towel trick is only a temporary fix, like Shady stated. If its 3/4 of the ring, that the RRoD. You are going to have to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX. You will need to send it in for replacement or repair, no cost to you (unless there is physical damage). Looks like you are without a 360 if that's the case.

You can also actually just submit a repair request online through the xbox site. That's how I've done it both times I've had a 360 go out and while they're supposed to send me a email to let me know the request has been approved they never do. Not that it's a big deal because with 1 or 2 days the request is approved and about 3-4 days after that I've got the box to ship the unit back in. Overall a pretty quick and painless process doing it that way.

Most definitely need to know how many red lights were flashing. As Shady mentioned all 4 for the A/V cable having issues, but that normally doesn't happen in the middle of playing.

3 red lights means general hardware failure and you're going to need to send it in, to my knowledge this is the only RROD that MS fixes for free unless you are within your standard warranty period.

If by chance it was 2 lights flashing then your console is overheating; if this is the case you need to fine away for it to get more cool, clean air. If you have it in a TV cabinet or another tight enclosed space its best to leave it out in the open if you can; just not on the floor. ;)

yeah if you received the 3 red lights even once... it is kind of like the sniffles before the all out vomiting. :p

definitely trade it in before the warranty runs out.

I got 3 red lighes ages ago - Its been fine since I turned it off and left it alone for 4 days for fear of it dying xD

Ill wait till I get it again before I take action and replace it or ship it out.

I think its times nearly up though, my games have started to freeze more frequently.

Keep in mind what Shady said -

This is not the all clear for you, your 360 will definitely still break soon.
