Anyone else seen this?
Its the new Tim Burton film with Jonny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. Lot of people wont like it as its basically a musical, but its beautifully done - as if Burton would ever do anything that wasnt :p

I dont like musicals really, altho I do like Phantom of the Opera cos its dark, so I guess I should like this :p
Na, I thought it was really good. Never going to win an Oscar or anything, but its another successful Depp/Burton film IMO
The only problem with it is a certain Depp. Why does Tim Burton see him as the only possible actor these days? Nightmare Before Christmas was a musical and that was still okay, so I'm sure he pulls it off just using a psychopathical barber and that bird from Fight Club.
If I knew how to get to the cinemas around here I'd go and watch it.

Burton always gets the best out of Depp. The exact opposite from what he is in Pirates of the Caribbean lol.
Depp is a dark character, and it doesnt get much darker than Sweeney Todd :p

Good stuff i'll be looking forward to that then :D
He ruined the reputations of pirates everywhere =(
Although now I think about it, this isn't the first time he has been a celluloid hairdresser is it?

Good way to stop blokes whacking off unless they want an impromptu circumcision.

I saw this film on Sunday at an advance screening before it comes out this Friday. Thoroughly enjoyed it, Johnny Depp played a very convincing Sweeney. Films like this show just how versatile he can be.
A word of warning for people going to see it that aren't familiar with the Sweeney Todd story. It is tremendously gory. So if you're taking a lady friend who's squeamish that's something to be aware of. The blood isn't even vaguely realistic tho (think Kill Bill) it looks more like Red poster paint.

That bird from fight club aka Helena Bonham-Carter happens to be Tim Burton's fiancé and mother of his two children. Johnny Depp is the godfather of the two children.
You ask why Tim Burton casts Depp so often? That should shed some light on why.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty good. A little over the top in places, but that's how Burton rolls.

That's the way Hollywood works I guess =( Like Will Smith casting his son in Karate Kid 92.

Does anyone else besides me get creeped out when watching a Tim Burton film? I mean, they're good movies...Sleepy Hollow, Batman, Nightmare Before XMas...etc..but the vibe about them creeps me out.
I'll probably see this on DVD after it comes out, I'll rent it or something. It doesn't seem like a movie that's worth seeing in theaters. :p

I thought Sweeny Todd was amazing. I'm a fan of the musical and Burton/Depp though, so make of that what you will. :)
As mentioned above though, be aware the film is tremendously gory. That's sort of the nature of the story, but I was really surprised to see just how bloody it was. Still, it was a really well done piece. I'd definitely recommend seeing it. :)

I saw it the weekend it came out here in the US and have to say it was very good. I had NO idea it was a musical, just knew the name was familiar and that it was a Burton/Depp movie so I knew it'd be good, at first when I realized it was a musical I was like WTF but it was REALLY enjoyable.

I saw this a while back when my bro was on vacation, and he really wanted to see this since we 1st saw the commercial, and so I was forced to see it again. The 1st time I thought it was pretty good, not a fan of musicals myself either, but it was well written. When i saw it the second time, I just seemed to like it whole lot better. This could be that I was paying less attention to the obvious stuff and watching for details. Its a great movie that everyone should at least see once.
Did you know there's three people in that movie from Harry Potter?

I thought it was a really well directed movie. Helen Bonham Carter acted really well, but I think J. Depp over-acted.

There was a non musical version in 97 that cast Ben Kingsley as Sweeney Todd.

I'm a fan of all tim burton movies so i watch all of his movies.
I've seen it yesterday at cinema (without knowing it was a musical...). It's a bit strange (like all tim burton movies) but i really enjoyed it. Very good movie, different from other movies.
One good thing in the french version, they keep the original voices with subtitle for the songs.
Did you know there's three people in that movie from Harry Potter?
3 i've only seen 2, the judge and his assistant, who's the third?

I know this is another Burton/depp combo, but is it another Burton/Elfman combo too? Danny Elfman just fits right in with Tim's style, and I love the mix the 2 can create.

I am not a big fan of musicals but Burton pulled it off with this one. Some very funny dark humor in the song lyrics.

I thought it was pretty good, not as good as I expected. Sacha Baron Cohen was so bad in it though, the first scene he was in was hilarious!
I saw Juno the same night as this, and Juno blew this out the water.
