I cant get across to the dutchman

I have tried at least 30 times to get across to the dutchman on level 3. I can get up the mast and walk along the narrow mast but i cant get him to slide down as one of the walkthroughs states. I must be missing somthing?

and when you get to the end of the mast to slide down the ropes, keep pressing RB i believe if i can remember the game right. he'll eventually slide down, this part bothered me for a bit to.
