View Full Version : Having a Japanese 360: Unfair advantage?

I was thinking of getting a Japanese 360, which would cost less than $300 shipped, not primarily for the gamerscore, but to get certain games that they either get before we do, or that we will never get..
Do you guys think in having both a US 360 and a Japanese 360 is an unfair advantage when it comes to gamerscore? I dont think it matters considering i would have tons of games i havent even played yet anyway
Anyways, what im saying is, would you guys look down on me for playing N3 right now, or think im the cool kid thats one of the few in the US playing N3?
:D

I'm unsure why it would be an unfair advantage? Because you've got more options of games to play? As long as you're playing through them properly and not cheating etc I don't see why anyone would take issue with it. Unless of course someone plays through every single game available in the US/EU and you have a higher Gamerscore simply because they can't get any more games, and I doubt that would cover many people.

Its not unfair at all, I wish I could afford a second 360 :P I'd love a jap version for some of the games they get that we dont.
Go for it

Yep that is totally unfair the only way to make it fairer is if you bought me one too! ;)

Mind you, does the 360 really get that much Japan-only support? It's not quite the same as missing out on Japanese content for systems by Sony or Nintendo.

Yeah, I also want a NTSC/J console.
Wouldn't say its unfair. Its like me saying everyone in the US and people with an ntsc console gets an unfair advantage since you have College Hoops, MLB and Dynasty Warriors, which are easy almost 3000 points (not sure about Dyn.Warr) and would move me on the world rankings to about #30'th place. (grr :p)
One region have some games the other dont have and vice versa.
Let us know how if you stumble upon any good jap games :)

You might get N3 sooner than most with a Japanese 360 but we will probably beat it before you as its coming out in August and we don't have to worry about translating :D.

Wasn't aware of that feature i'll have to go see if there are any titles that look interesting. The only Japanese games i've heard about and want to play are Enchant Arms and N3 and as both are coming out soon I haven't considered buying a NTSC/J console. Let us know how things go with it if you decide to purchase one.

I dunno, it looks like there's only like 10 games they have that we dont.. I think I may wait awhile to see:
1) If they get good quality titles that id want to play, especially if they arent coming here
2) If the 360 sells enough over there to even make a lot of games, if any, lol
I think i'm gonna wait and see how things go over there first, if the outlook looks decent, ill probably invest in one..

I think it's an unfair advantage but I dont think it is:p Some of you may know already, if you get 1000 in a jap game and then the game is released in the U.S. that's another seperate 1000 because there will be 2 different versions. Of course you will need help understanding some of the games. I talked with TheGrayWolf and he's getting help from Rance on the ones that are confusing. Some are in English though so it's not that hard. If I had the money I probably would get a jap 360 for fun and gamerscore, so if you get ahold of one more power to you;)

Agree to disagree:p If someone from U.S. buys jap 360 they have an advantage but we also have the same opportunity to buy one.

I see what you mean now. You're right of course (anyone with enough money has an opportunity to buy both).

I didn't know that actually, and it's a fair point. Thing is though, you'd have to play through the game again, and really, would it be worth it on most games?

Well if you have 1000 on the jap version, the U.S. version would feel like going through an easy sports game for another 1000.

For the most part, im not so sure if you are able to replay the game in the US and get the points again, i know thats not the case for the games thare are both in japan and the US (most of the catalog), but we'll find out because they got Over G Fighters and Chromehounds already i believe, so when those are released here, ill look at Rance and whoever else got a jap 360 and see if they can do it twice, if thats the case, thats kinda gay..

im pretty sure you can do them twice if there is a ntsc and a ntsc/j one.there was a guy that posted some time ago i believe, he had teh german version of quake 4 and when you compared games with him it showed up as an entirely different game, like he had his points in quake and when i scrolled down to where the games that he had not played were, there was quake 4 again, with my gs and everything. so technically you could have played the ntsc version of cod2 and get that 1000, buy the ntsc/j version of cod2 for your jap 360 and get another 1000 in it. krazie, you never answered, where did you find them $300, i only seen them for $400

^^ Ebay, there seems to only be like 2 at a time on there, but they usually end at like 250-270 with $35 shipping..

It's a lot of money to fork out for a few more GPs and the chance to play a very small amount of games you otherwise wouldn't. I would think the money would be better spent elsewhere? There's other machines coming out this year, and things aside from video gaming I'm sure you could spend $300 on. Just seems a bit too much money for the gains you'll make.

i think you can do the same with [eM] -eNCHANT aRM- because if you go to the leader board for the game there's two different ones and a couple of jap. people have played both and theyre both on theyre profile.

You're right, but its not for the gamerscore, ill never be behind on games in the US, so it would be pointless for me to get it just for the gamerscore.. I have the money to use, and i thought it may be cool to have both, since ive never had a japanese console to play some of their games that we'd never get.. However, to be honest, id probably be better off investing in a japanese PS3 once they've gone down in price, since they'll have more and better games for it
I dont know yet

Yeah, if you're going to get a Japanese console the PS3 is probably the one to get since it has more support over there.

Yea but it's more $ but I guess the games would even that out.
