Is it worth it? What is gamescore for? Should I really spend hours doing this extra stuff or just enjoy the games?

It's just personal preference. Gamerscore is just an added enjoyment factor to a game. As for value there isn't any except personal enjoyment.:)

If you are new to the 360, don't worry about Gamerscore, enjoy your games first. Then when you have enjoyed your games, look at the achievements, see which are easy or a challenge to get. I find that you feel very accomplished when you get an achievement!

I find it ironic that his forum name contains "Philosopher"
But seriously, I enjoy the gamerscore, and it never gets old hearing it unlock. I have burnt myself out though playing some games I usually wouldn't touch just for points (Open Season for example). It should be about having fun though, and any unlocks are just a bonus.

Yes its worth it...I feel that I have really achieved something if I hunt for gamerscore...mainly I felt it with Call of duty 4 because if I didnt go through on Veteran for achievements/Gamerscore then I would have just quickly rushed through on easy or normal.

It's totally a personal preference. Just understand that once you start gaming for achievements it will change the way you play games and buy games. Even triple a titles for example Assassin's Creed (which i'm playing now) I am approaching it from the angle of how I can get 1k in this the fastest way possible.

Everyone pretty well covered it. It is all based on how you enjoy your games. If you do start to go for it, it will change how you approach games. I only have 1k GS so far on XBox (only owned my XBox a couple weeks), but I'm trying to ignore it for now. That is because I become obsessive with goals like this. Badges on City of Heroes, Merits in Planetside, heck, collecting pokemon. When I start a game, I want to completely defeat the game. Having the GS lets you see what you have left to accomplish.
Best bet is just to play the game and ignore the GS completely for the first week or six you own the game. Just have fun. Once you are happy with the game, THEN glance back to see what you missed. I tend to print out the checklist as soon as I get the game, but I don't read it for a while. If I happen to see an achievement popup, I'll go cross it out so I don't look at it later. Enjoyment should come first.

Yea, like a few have said above it really is personal preference, but to me it is what really makes me glad I got the 360 over PS3. I love being able to try to see how high I can get my gamerscore and when you do unlock achievements it can really feel good. I have some friends that don't care at all about their GS and have had 360 for awhile and I have others that are as just addicted as I am to it.

I was addicted months before owning one. <_<. I'm basically playing the games through first and worrying about achievements second unless its a miss and fail forever thing

Gamerscore is fine if drank responsably because if you end up playing games that you hate for achievements then you need to cool things down a little. Also Gamerscore can get you respect from people with low gamerscores.

I do my best to avoid playing games just for gamerscore (with the exception of certain games i get just for the easy 1k). I prefer to play the game for the game first and then go back and see what i can do to get more achievements, whether it's a complete replay or just replaying certain levels. I feel that allows me to get both the most fun and most points out of the games.

*thinks about writing a gamerscore//score whore FAQ..but then worries more about finishing his arcade guide*
I love playing games again thanks to the achievements//GS system... I play games now I never would have before and I think it's for the better in my case. Broadened my horizons so to speak.

**Thinks what would his guide hold, Thinks, maybe Vista can help**
Anyway...
There are four different kinds of games IMO,
Crappy games with easy GS (Avatar, FF2, TMNT)
Crappy games with hard GS (Rumble Roses XX, DOA Xtreme 2, Rayman)
Good Games with easy GS (Halo 3, Madden, Skate)
Good Games with Hard GS (Lost Planet..)
The average player will play the good games, regardless of its GS, the achievement and completionist whore will play a bad game, no matter how bad it is to get GS. So make your choice; Will you get into GS, and sometimes play unenjoyable games, or will you stick to fun games, but not enjoy Gamerscore?

i'm going to have to agree with you :D normally i wouldn't play games like the cabela hunting games, but because of the gamerscore system, i actually played it. And guess what? i LOVED it, i had a lot of fun just playing the game. In fact, i enjoyed ALL of the games i played that got me my 23k gamerscore. However, like someone stated above, if you play games you HATE just to get the gamerscore, then you will have to rethink your gamerscore addiction.
As for the achievement system, the points of the achievement system is to give you a sense of achievement for the games that you play. I feel a great sense of achievement in having a high gamerscore, it just shows me how dedicated i am. however, thats just an opinion, everyone will think differently about achievements but this community is full of gs whores, so our opinions are pretty similar if not the same.

Personal Preference it is.;)
I will literally play ANY Xbox 360 Games to try my absolute BEST to Unlock as much Achievements as possible. At the moment, it's also increased my Xbox 360 game collection. I'm closing in on owning 100 Xbox 360 games. This also let's me explore every Genre of games. Anything from Disney's Cars to Halo 3. Overall, the Achievement/Gamerscore system has changed how play games and view them as well. Nothing wrong with a little added incentive while playing games right?

People who buy games for the gamerscore and dumb and have no life
So who is dumber Lucky, people who buy games for gamerscore or people who can't put a sentence together properly.
This is one disadvantage of playing for gamerscore, ignorant haters who have nothing better to do then spew non-sense. It's just a complete shame.

^^^I didn't even catch his sig.
I have close to 100 Xbox 360 games. I can't help it if I'm BALLIN'!!!:p
Seriously though, I agree with my boy Covert. There is always Haters that'll be around to bring down something as great as the Gamerscore/Achievement system. If you don't like it, then maybe you should start over with a new Gamertag every time an Achievement Unlocks.:p

I think it has been a brilliant system that MS has implemented into the gaming experience. It really adds a lot and not only adds replayability to games but there are a lot of quirky ones that are fun to go after and stuff you would never think of. They are a fun yet meaningless system but sure are addicting. I would go after games that you know you would enjoy first and then try out some others for the points and see what you think.

First you should play through the game to enjoy it, then you should go after the achievements.

I agree with this.
I'm more impressed with someone who has 1250 on Gear of Wars, 1000 on Halo 3, and 200 on Street Fighter. with only 4k gs. Than someone with 50k+ and has played like 100 games and only gotten the easy achievements for a quick gs boost.

Gamerscore is fun at first, then the higher you go up the more you want and then it gets to the stage where you buy games for the achievements. I am now just playing for the fun of it but if I fancy getting an achievement I play for it.

If they don't mean shit then why would it impress you whatever someone had for their score and what they got in an individual game. It's just for fun and self satisfaction. I'm not going to waste hours upon hours boosting online just for points when I'd much rather either obtain it on my own over time naturally or focus on other achievements. I think it is good to have a wide variety of games. I personally enjoy playing multiple games instead of beating every aspect of a game just for full gamerscore if I know it'll just be tedious and not much fun.

Here is my PERSONAL opinion on that, you don't have to agree.
For me i think what lot of people call "boosting" should just be called "cheating". I mean there is no way i would do an achievement by having one of my budy standing still and doing 100 headshot on him or something like that... Or him letting me beat him 100 times or so to get a winning achievement. The achievement is meant to be made when people are PLAYING so all achievement i do, i do them LEGIT. That dosen't mean i won't try hard to get some achievement, i don't just do them as i play "normally" , for exemple on shadowrun it was very hard to get the gardener achievement(kill 5 people with strangle), i had to play 2 full morning to get it as i was waiting for that to return back the game from where i rented it. But i did it legit, and i knew i couldn't just say "i should get it sometime as i play normally" because i never used that power before, i didn't really liked it.
But after that, they are really hard achievement i won't bother doing, like beating a game on extreme hard difficulty or something like that, like COD2 in veteran, i saw a friend playing it and that was crazy, there no way i wanted to waste my time doing that. I can get very angry when i play solo game and die a lot, not being able to past a point, so instead of just yelling like a mad man "stupid f***ing game, ahhhh !!!" and things like that, i just don't do it.

We have been through this before. Boosting is not cheating. You are fullfiling the requirements of the achievement and spending the time doing it. If you every see an achievement that says "Kill 100 people that are moving." and someone boosts it, then I will agree with you. But everyone is entitled to thier opinion, even if it is wrong.
Anyways, this thread has gone off topic. It's no longer answering the orginal question. So shut down time.
