We at Xbox 360 Achievements love our loyal members. When you cry, we cry. When you have advice, we listen. To show our appreciation for our long time family, we’re bringing you the first ever senior member exclusive contest! Oh, but don’t worry for all you non-senior members, you won’t be left out in the cold on this one.
Thanks to our wonderful friends at Red Octane and Activision we have numerous Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock items to give away! There are shirts, CD cases, keychains, and buttons; a plethora of items if you will.
Here’s how this one is going to go down. Thanks to all the wonderful responses we received from a recent thread about contests, we found that senior members would like to see a contest exclusively for members who have been here for at least three months and have at least 250 posts, so that's what will determine if you're a senior member for this contest.
There will be two contests in one this time around. One for just the senior members, and one for both the senior members and the non-senior members.
Contest 1: Senior Members Only
Grand Prize (four winners)
(1) Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock T-shirt (sizes S-XL available)Contest 2: Senior and Non-Senior Members
First Place (one winner):
(1) Guitar Hero III keychain
(1) Guitar Hero III CD wallet
(3) 1/2" Guitar Hero III pinsSecond place (one winner):
(1) Guitar Hero III CD wallet
(3) 1/2" Guitar Hero III pinsThird place (one winner):
(3) 1/2" Guitar Hero III pins
Images of prizes can be found by selecting the specific prize; T-shirt (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/6778/xbox/x360a/Contests/092.jpg) (size small shown), keychain (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/6778/xbox/x360a/Contests/096.jpg), CD case (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/6778/xbox/x360a/Contests/095.jpg), pins (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/6778/xbox/x360a/Contests/098.jpg).
These are some sweet prizes, but how does one win? Simple! Just answer the following question, "What instrument should Red Octane utilize for their next Hero game?" If you're not feeling creative just enter your GT.
Now for the dreaded rules:
The contest will be open from Wednesday January 2nd to Wednesday January 9th 11:59 PM PST.
Only one entry per person, senior members will automatically be entered into both contests.
Senior member requirements must have been reached by Tuesday January 1st.
Use this thread for entries ONLY! Discussion will be deleted and may result in a infraction or temporary ban.
Winners will be chosen randomly with a random integer generator. Winners will then be PMed and will have 48 hours to reply with the information asked for, inability to do so will result in disqualification and new winners will be chosen.Good luck!

I think they should add another guitar that looks like a real bass that way you could have a killer co-op for the game. There's my 2 cents and I'm glad there's finally a senior member contest.:p

Reply: They should include a bass, with only four buttons. Most(notice I said most) bands play with a bass that consists of only four strings, so why is there five buttons? Doesn't make sense. Also, they should make it a Gibson Thunderbird like Nikki Sixx plays.

I think we should have marching band hero. Instead of instruments like trumpet, tuba, etc., you can play snare, quints, sexs, bass drums, or cymbals. Alot of bands attach cowbells and cymbals to snares so it should be an option to add other pads to your snare pads. Just an idea.

Question: "What instrument should Red Octane utilize for their next Hero game?"
Answer: A cool instrument they should think about using is a violin. It could be like the guitar with colored buttons that would be used as frets on the violin. It would be pretty nasty in songs like "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas.

I think a game based on drums alone would get rather dull, and like most of you say, it is in Rock Band. So i think that there should be a Keyboard Hero! Which would probably just be a keyboard for your 360, but eventually it would teach you to play keyboard for real!

I don't want a new instrument, I want a better Guitar Hero. How about.......
-adding a set of pedals as previously posted
-running buttons down the entire neck, maybe 10-15 total that could
be different shades of the existing colors
-drop the stupid @$$ star power and give bonus when game detects
guitar being held in different than normal position
-utilize the camera so you can windmill and leg kick like an 80's madman
-maybe it's just my copy but could the game possibly not lag when
star power is used if they don't get rid of it entirely
-and finally how about a lil bonus for hitting hammer-ons
If a new instrument is needed I say Recorder or Ocarina Hero would be sweet!:rock

I think Red Octane/Neversoft should implement drums into the series. It would compete with Rock band and give fans more choice. Not very original but if GH wants to keep up with Rock band or even excede it then drums would be a great start.

Like Justicezero said, and I've had this idea for a while, I'm not stealing it, that a keyboard/piano game would be the next new instrument to add. We already have drums, guitar, and singing, and the keyboard/piano is the next logical instrument. This is because it is used in so many classic rock songs, from Jessica to Carry on Wayward Son to Won't Get Fooled Again (to use some examples of songs already used in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series).
Plus the peripheral could be easily based off a keyboard, just much smaller: a set of keys representing each note, or even only a few of the notes, and a pedal like most regular pianos have.

Answer- some sort of more complicated guitar. I don't see the point in expanding beyond the guitar in a game called guitar hero. Maybe more buttons for solos like the rock band one apparently has. Or, make the current one really awesome, with pressure sensative buttons allowing for vibrato or bending, which would be pretty cool.
But turntables would be a cool addition, imagine how cool you'd look :Bounce:

Answer: If we are talking about adding to the guitar hero game I would say we need to see drums. It would basically just be stealing from Rock Band but you would not have to add the singing aspect. If you want a brand new game with just its own standalone instrument I'm not sure what the mass audience would want to play. I would say the PIANO Keyboard. Thats actually something they could make in game and would really transfer onto a real piano. The keys for songs could be the exact same and could actually be a cool training tool if you take it that way.

They could make a set including turntables, voice augmenting thingies, and a digeridoo from australia. But on a serious note i think they should just have a cord with a usb ending on one end and a 1/4 in audio jack on the other and you could play a real guitar and have the new game recognize the pitch like the vocals in rock band. Think about it redoctane, a simple cord in a collector's-sized box is alot cheaper than a whole new guitar. Plus you would appeal to a whole new demographic, the people who hate guitar hero because they play real guitar. ehh? EHH? It's an awesome idea.

I think a piano hero would be awsome or another guitar hero with frets on the bottom of the neck to make the solos feel a bit more realistic.
GT: VA1N
Answer: I don't think they should add any instruments. Trying to compete with Rock Band will only take away from the already amazing guitar gameplay. Rock Band utilizes many instruments and in doing so doesn't master any of them. Guitar Hero focuses on one instrument and sets the bar insanely high. They should stick to what they are doing great and not worry about the other instruments. If they want to create a Drum Hero, go for it, but make sure it's a separate game.

Question: I can't quite remember...
... But what they should do is continue down the path they're on. It's working well for them (what ain't broken...ect.). If they're really looking to improve though, then I think making the way you play the guitar more realistic. For example, either having more buttons along the frets, or incorperating sensors onto the buttons to allow for bends. This could be a requirement in some of the songs too, whereby as the notes come towards you on-screen, they have curves in them to indicate the direction of the bend.
Or you could follow the demands of many and go with the drums. Which hell, would be a great game nevertheless.

I think they need to do a drum set, not like the rock band version, but set up like a real set. Also they should have a freestyle mode or something where you can just rock out. One good thing would be if they could make it not cost so much as rock band, $170 was too much.

Question: What instrument should red octane utilize for their next hero game?
i think they should try and go with a game that utilizes the design of a real guitar. Could this possibly be a chance for them to make a game that actually teaches people to play guitar.

I'd like to see some kind of in-game effects board, where -- maybe as in-game unlockables -- you can change the effects on the guitar, adding reverb, fuzz, delay, or give the guitar an acoustic sound...
Or -- get THIS -- maybe simulating the sounds of certain guitars... like how "Paranoid" would sound if played on a Rickenbacker 12-string or -- dare I say it? -- a Danelectro Coral Electric Sitar! I understand that would entail hella licensing difficulties, but a 12-string effect and/or a sitar effect would still be possible without that licensing.
Oh, and axe the Axe advertisements, please.

If red octane and activision could make the drums look realistic (like with a better bass pedal and cymbal looking thing) it'd be great. They could also add more drum heavy songs and focus on those unlike rock band. Maybe add some sensors on the sticks so that you could actually count it down? :D

For the next "hero" gamne, they should include the drums. This is because a lot of people play the drums and when they heard Rock Band had drums, they all brought that. So I was thinking that RedOctane should make a drums game called "Drum Hero" or something along the lines of that.

Answer: As many others have noted, the obvious answer would be to go for the drums, the impact they brought with rock band was unquestionable. Personally, as a huge fan of beatmania and keyboardmania I'd love to see these concepts somehow ported into guitar hero or even as a separate franchise, although that would probably be difficult in the American market. In truth, I wish that both RedOctane and Harmonix could work together for an even better rhythm game. It'd have guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and any other number of instruments that could be possible.
It would pretty much have to have an instrument that's common in quite a few songs, enough to sustain a career. I just don't really know though, there's not too much they can go after. If they both work together, they could make an even better experience with faultless instruments, and not so noisy ones too.

Answer
How's about just giving the player a mic and an emulated sampler? It'll be a game where you are a producer and you either produce beats, rap, or do both! It'll be split into three areas: the establishment, the creation process, and the performance.
The Establishment
You create your look. You wanna be the nerdy white rapper who raps about video games and Star Wars? Fine. You want to be the next RZA, creating your own clan full of superior artists? That can be done as well (and this opens up for a cornucopia of possibilities online!) You create your physical appearance, which involves weight, hair, color, scars?, shoes, etc! And you can also select your rapping style: fast, witty, slow, emotional, etc. Stuff like that.
The Creation Process
Here you create a bet or select an already existing one and then you decide how long it will be, etc etc. Then you will rap and this can be done in increments, not all at once since, let's face it, not everyone is or can be a rapper but this is all supposed to be fun, right? So there can be other possibilities. After you leave the recording studio, you can edit the song with custom sound effects, etc. And then you can release the single and here, you can pick the look of the cover, the price, etc.
The Performance
This is it. You will preform live in front of an audience and this is where i get stumped. I haven't thought it through or how it will work but it sounds so cool.
So that's my idea, a little far fetched but eh, what are you gonna do?

Though i could see a big complaint with having to hold the instrument (boo hoo :P) so for the lazy ones out there i guess the Keyboard/Piano would be fun too but ultimately... since the violin is used in plenty of songs I think that would be pretty sweet!
well... back to playing Guitar Hero... :)

Answer: I know it's been said, but I really think Red Octane could do some quality drums. With how much they have pushed the popularity of the the Guitar Hero games, I have no doubt that they ca jumpstart the drums, and more importantly, create a lot better quality drums than the set included in Rock Band.

Drums wouldn't be anything new as it has already been done in the past (i.e. DrumMania and Rock Band), although I'm sure RedOctane is more than likely going to do it anyway.
So what I'd really like to see RedOctane make is a synthesizer (for a "Keyboard Hero", "Piano Hero", or "Synthesizer Hero" game).

Answer: Although Drum Hero would be awesome, at this point leave the drums to Rock Band, bring on Keyboard Hero with at least a 7 button controller. And let the soundtrack cover everything from classical piano masterpieces to jazz to modern pop.

answer: I think that they shoudl just change the guitar a bit becaue it'll have to feel confortable when your holding it sat there playing the game. You can't have anything stupid. So Why not put the keyboard in the guitar just like the keytars(search them if you don't know what they look like), that'd be great. It'd still feel nice and confortable with the guitar, but it'd be a keyboard styled game. They should also add effects pedal and change the motion sensing, so tghat you can shake the thing and the notes bend, i always wantged that. So i got for the keytar with add ons.

Question: "What instrument should Red Octane utilize for the next Hero Game?"
Answer: Well 1 we have the guitar , 2 basically we already have the bass or "rhythm" part of the game in co-op matches utilized so thats done. Frankly i dont see another option besides of course the drums. Its very fun and id like to see it happen, however if you really wanted to go past Rock Band. I recommend an electric keyboard type insturment. Seeing as these do control alot of sounds in some bands. So i say we bring in Keyboard Hero. Its 8 fingered controller that you can put a strap around neck and hold at waist level ( u dont hold but its suspended) or you can put it on a desk, its got the menu buttons, diff colored buttons for each finger. There are a wide range of songs from classical to jazz to rock star techno with an electric keyboard.

As stated before the game would work great with drums. If you could come out with a realistic drum kit that after playing on hard means you could slide over to a real drum set, well, that would be something.

either drum hero where you plug in an electric drum kit and have the ability to download tracks of xbox live to play in addition to the ones on the game
or....

It's a really tough call as to what they should do next. We got all of the Bemani series covering so many different types it isn't funny (keyboard, DJ turntables, guitar, drums, etc) so everything they'd make would look like a copy. Blown instruments would just show off all of the out of shape people, and the tuba would cause a lot of deaths (look at how addicted we are to our games, we end up with CP and STILL play with numb hands! Just imagine the people blowing...) Singing is also already done by Konami...
I'd have to say drums, and get us a really good set of them so we can play like the real thing.

I have to go with the drums idea. The reason I like guitar hero so much is the feeling of holding a guitar in your hands, not the background animations and graphics, and not completely the soundtrack (although the GHIII soundtrack is pretty good). Similarly, there's nothing quite like playing a set of drums. However, the one gripe I would have is that Red Octane would have to reinvent the drum set from what Rock Band used as they just don't simulate the feeling quite as closely as they should.

Answer: Red Octane should develop Bazantar Hero!!! With a company who loves enhanced difficulty the Bazantar is a 5 string double bass with 29 sympathetic strings and 4 drone strings for a total of 38 strings!!! Then Red Octane could contact Crayola to implement a color for each string. What an ultimate XBOX 360 instrument that would make.....even with that there would still be people out there 5-starring the entire game on Expert, lol.
