Problem with my xbox

when i turn on my xbox , on the dashboard , it has the thing that keeps spinnig , i cant see anything , my friends , messages , profiles , nothing. The thing just keeps spining for about 10 minutes then finally when everything pops up it says i must connect to xbox live when yet it shows friends signing on.
Also , My Nhl 08 , when i connect to a game it says searching forever and dosent stop and you cant exit out you just have to shut your system off.

Is my 360/harddrive/game broke ?

BS well instead of playing NHL online ill play Assassins creed since its an offline game

i was paranoid thinkin my nhl08 game is broke , then i though maybe my connection broke lol , then i though my hard drive got corrupted.
