Today I bought Avatar: TBE to get the achievements. When I insert the disk the xbox starts making weird noises then goes to a white screen and says "To play this disk insert it in a Xbox 360 console"... Is their any way to fix this ?

This is looking like the slow crawl towards the RROD... prepare that cardboard coffin and get ready to send it to that Repair Centre in the sky.
If it does keep doing this...it's more than likely going to die. It may just be a one off however which I do hope it is for your sake =].

It's the only game its doing it on plus it is a pre-owned one.

Thats not entirely true, I received the same message this past summer when I rented King Kong. Come to find out the game disc was bad; it would intermittently come up with the error message when I loaded the game up, but also wouldn't even play the game correctly. I got stuck on the very first level all because of it being a bad disc.
Check the disc over and see if its damaged any. If this is the only game you are receiving the error message with then its more than likely that particular disc and not your console. Take it back where you go it and report the error, also see if you can get another disc of the same game.

I think your original mistake was buying Avatar ;).
But yeah, this sounds like the disc drive is going...does it do that with every game or just Avatar?

Then it may be scratched? Check the disc and make sure it's not doing it with any other games. Also if your dashboard or blades have been freezing then it may be the RROD issue. If not just get a fresh copy of avatar.
EDIT: HAH 3 posts same minute same reply(ish).

Like I asked in my previous post to DavidMck, does the error happen with every game or just one /certain ones? If its just one then it might be the game disc; if its multiple or every game then its either you disc drive or another internal component of your console. The bright side of the whole thing is if it is a console issue and you get the RROD it would still be covered under the extended warranty (as long as its 3 red light RROD).

When I worked at the local game crazy customers would come in with this problem quite a bit. While it certainly can be a precurser to the dreaded death issue more often than not it is the disc itself. It usually would show up on extremely scratched or badly damaged discs.
When a rental disc gives me issues I blast it with windex and give it a microfiber wipe down. This fixes all but the beastliest of discs.
In any case good luck and hopefully you don't red light.

I would return the disc to the store and ask for a replacement.

i thinks its the disk not your xbox if thats the only disk that doesnt play. i had the same problem when i rented fifa 07 out in the summer. i just took the disk back and swapped it for a new one and it worked.

Try cleaning it with a soft towel and Windex (or any glass cleaner), if you haven't already. If it doesn't work and you bought it used there should be a used garuntee like at my local game stores.

I had the same problem with LOTR BFME, I used tooth paste on it and it worked fine. ;)

It happens with pretty much every game I have except CoD4.. I just recently bought rock band and it didn't work till the 4th try on it and it still works off and on sometimes.. So if i get the RROD then it's covered even if I got it 1 year ago or whatever?

well, mine seems to only be new games. i played kameo a week ago and it worked first try, but halo 3 takes 30+ minutes to work. but its just not halo. it started happening with all the new games i got since late summer. i dont feel like paying microsoft though. ill try the windex method.

This happens to me when the disc is cracked, check the inner circle, but yeah take it back.

Can anyone tell me if my 360 is about to die? Ive been playing a lot of Mass Effect lately and its been freezing now and then...Tonight I decided to have some fun in AC but it froze before the 360 even had time to read the disk, and then it started to make a wierd noice. Ive decided to leave it for tonight and come back and check on it tomorow. So, is it work keeping it? While its still working for most games, is it slowly dying? Should I just give up and send it away?
Any help would be apreciated.

no it is not. I have been having this problem for a very long i have to put any game in about 10-20 times before it works. All you do is the game in and if it doesn't work then pull it out and then put it back in, it will work eventually...
my 360 has been getting this problem since shadowrun came out on in February or march

I actually just sent my 360 in for this. I dealt with it like Cyrex but after about a month it just went downhill. If all else fails, give it RRoD and send it in. I didn't have to because I was still warrantized, but still it gets annoying.

Mine used to do that.
The console died.
It wasn't the RRoD though. 1 light with error E74.
The funny thing is, my old Xbox does it too from time to time. Especially when I try to play KoTOR (can't stand the static bursts when playing on a 360).

1.)Disc is dirty/damaged
2.)The region of the game does not match your console
3.)Your drive is giving up

I haven't read all the above posts but it's probably because the disc is scratched. I bought a copy of Tetris Evolution a few days ago from Gamestop and it had some deep scratches on it and it wouldn't work. It would either give me the error you described or just sit at the loading screen and the disc drive would stop spinning. The system works fine on every other game, so I'm guessing your disc is just scratched and you need to exchange it.

I know it's supposed to be for scratches only, but anytime a game is acting weirdly, I always apply soap in a crisp, lateral motion. Of course, the only time I've ever seen that error was when I oversoaped the disc and the shit really hit the fan, but it can't hurt to try.
